Hey Guys, My name Bret and I've been lurking here for a long time. I decided to quit being shy, as per BlueBassers request.

I'm 26 and have been fishing for about my whole life. Just bought my first boat last August. It's a Skeeter SX170 w a 90hp Yamaha and Garmin electronics.

Anyways just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully I see you guys at some tournaments this year! Also wanted to say thanks to everyone who always gives reports and tips, I read them and use them when figuring out where to go!

Also Brian Ondrejka, you probably don't remember me but I used to skate a lot back in my middle school / early high school days, then I switched to the fruitboots. I graduated with Aaron Smith and Garret Olinger, they were two of my really good buddies back then. I still talk to them a bit. Cheers bro!

This is a question for blue baser. I saw that you have a garmin 73v depth finder. It's in my price range and wondered what drove you to get the garmin? Also does it have sidesscan?

Appreciate your thoughts!

I also have a 73dv. Clayton has a 93sv, which does have side scan. Garmin can now definitely say that they have the clearest scanning sonar on the market. The LakeVu HD maps were a huge selling point for me. Most of the lakes I fish have up to 1' contours. DownVu is also pretty awesome. I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Anyone been out to Melvern here lately?  I'm heading down there the next two weekends to prefish for a tournament on the 4th of April.   I'm sure that lake has to be getting close to turning on if it hasn't already!

I can't wait.

Went to Hillsdale today.  Had no boat, caught no fish.  Saw five boats under the Gardner road bridge at one time.

Welcome to the thread man! No need to be shy around here, we don't know any strangers.

Couple guys went today and caught 9. Water temps from 45-50. I'm thinking one more week of warm weather and it might be on.

Same deal at LOZ. Not quite there yet but definitely not far off until they turn on.

I went to Peculiar City Reservoir Saturday.  I caught 6 two plus pounders from shore using a Stanley Ribbit frog.  They were hungry.  They ate it up.  Tight lines my friends.

Good to be getting on some topwater already in March!

I had a couple shorter than usual trips on my days off this past week. Jon and I fished Lone Star in a cold drizzle Thursday but the fish were still plenty willing to play. Couldn't find any of the bigger fish or the wipers that Brian seems to keep catching out there but the little guys had lots of fire in them so they were a good time. Plus I got to catch some fish on the Sizzle  :eyebrows:  Took about 2 cast to get my first one on it in fact.

Jon caught the second smallmouth I've ever seen from out there on a Megabass 110.

Had to try the pink one.

Friday I went to Shawnee to chase trout. First cast of the morning, I caught my first smallmouth I've ever caught out there on the Deadly Nedly.

I worked hard to find the trout, catching one here and one there with most running smaller than normal but I did get a couple decent ones.

Caught them on a mix of Cleos, Neds, and micro jig under a bobber. I even managed to sight fish a few of them once I found a good school. Right in the last half hour I finally got a big one, 5lbs 7ozs, on the Cleo.

And I even got the very brief fight on video (she rolled up in my line about a dozen times and couldn't hardly move so I basically just drug her backwards to the net).

Wife and I fished Gardner for a couple hours Saturday, never had anything I'm 100% certain was a bite. Really reminded me why I never fish that lake despite living 5 minutes from it.

I took an old friend out who wanted to go crappie fishing to Hillsdale, he hit a stump with his boat last week and wanted to go.  We caught a few keepers but overall really slow for crappies, killed the whites though.  I even saw one guy catch a largemouth.

I came back to the ramp to find one of my lights on my trailer busted out and steel plated bent up, the dude did leave a note and filed a report.  I talked to him and he said his wife cut the corner to tight and it was her first time parking the trailer. My trailer has what Ranger calls "road armor" but it's really just bed liner (I think).  The bent up bracket is stout and made to stand on.  Anyway, it's more of a repair than just bending the bracket back and replacing the plastic. I need to get an estimate and get it to the guy.  Does anyone know of a shop that could do this work?  Croft is the only one I can think of.

In the midst of my being completely exhausted from fishing the Walleye spawn every night until after midnight, I managed to find another horse of a Wiper this weekend. Hit like a freight train on a jerkbait again. This one was 25" just at 7#. Fought like a LM all the way to the boat so it was a bit of a heartbreaker, but can't complain. Caught another 5# shortly after. Still a lot of very active fish, but as you can see in the pictures, could have used a bit more of a breeze. Should make April 2nd pretty fun, watch out!

Finally got out after getting my boat together and my new daughter arrived early Friday morning. My wife is great. We got home from the hospital at 1:30 and I was on the lake just after 3. We fished the last three days before the front came in and had several good days. Here is a pic from tonight after putting 22 lbs together in about 15 min.

Congrats on the new addition and the good fishing! What lake were you on?

Thanks! Watkins Mill today but usually hit the lakes up by Cameron if we are not at a big lake like LOZ.

Wow, that is a crazy big bag on Watkins Mill. You must have really had them dialed in!

Yeah that is not normal on that lake. Most of the big girls came from a spot where the public fishes the bank and the 4 biggest came in the short time frame. I can only imagine what someone would have thought if they were sitting there when we pulled up. There was another guys that had just went through there too and I am pretty sure he didn't catch anything.

My father in law fished a few days ago at Watkins Mill and said he never had a bite.  No clue what he was using.  I can't wait to show him this picture!!!!

Care to share what they were eating that day??

Man, seeing you guys catching fish like these makes me want, nah, make that need a boat.

Man haven't seen a fish like that come out of the mills in years. Grew up in excelsior fishing and sailing on that lake. That's before I knew what I know know. Can't wait to hit up crystal lakes and might consider the mills if they make girls like that.
