conorsixtakc Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The top few feet of water has warmed up quickly due to the recent warmer weather, and is probably still warmer than the rest of the water column. A few more weeks and that warmer water should even out through the water column. Your electronics sound like they're working fine, you're just seeing the warmer water at the surface. 1 Quote
JakeJohnson Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Hey guys, new member here! I have been reading your posts for a while now and hope to start contributing. Spring, though my favorite time of the year to fish, is hard for me to get out because I coach baseball. I normally get out once or twice a week in the summer though. Being a school teacher definitely has its perks. I am hoping to get out couple times next week for spring break and I was wondering if you guys have any updates on the trout fishing at kill creek or smp? I was told they stock trout every spring there and I live 5 minutes away from kill creek. I normally don't target trout but I thought I would give it a shot. 1 Quote

Ondrejka Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 My own little slice of heaven has been good to me. Got out on Friday evening and had quite a time. Fished nothing but a jerkbait the whole time. I caught a few small ones, and a 2.89 that was pretty fun. I decided to fish the arm adjacent to the arm with homes. I haven't put much time into it at all, but knew it had a steep break and deep water access. Within 4 casts, I'm hooked up with something big. After the first few seconds, I knew it was not a giant Bass, but rather a giant Wiper. After an incredible fight, no net, and a face full of jerkbait treble hooks, I managed to get her on the scales. 9.14 LBS. 27 INCHES. Unbelievable. Biggest Wiper I've seen in person, what a fish. It was an awesome way to end the evening. Water temps were 48-51. Â Â Â Â Â My dad came out this morning to see if I could put him on some Crappie at Clinton. It was extremely windy and choppy, and a lot cooler than we anticipated. We bailed on it and went to plan B. I didn't think the weekend could get much better after Friday's trip, but it did. Again, fished nothing but the same jerkbait the whole time. I taught my dad how to properly fish it, and he was on fish in no time. I was so proud. Between us we probably put 20 in the boat, including my 4.23 pounder, which was an amazing bite on a jerkbait. Soon after that fish, I snagged a giant Carp in the tail. Fought it for probably 10 minutes and chased it around with the trolling motor, only to have it shake the jerkbait boatside. I'm not too upset, but it was probably pushing 20 pounds haha. I should have checked my knot afterwards, because shortly after I snagged on deep brush, and lost my Pro Blue. Other than that, it was another great day. Â Â Â Â Â 4 Quote
micahthorlawson Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Micah, that is a pig in your avatar. What river was that one from? That was on the Elk last summer near the Cowskin access. After an entire day of catching tiny Smallies that one inhaled my finesse jig. I was presently surprised! 1 Quote

On the Elk itself, I haven't caught or had a hook in any of any size. On Big Sugar, I have had a hook into a couple 17" smallmouth, but they both tossed it during the fight. 1 Quote

I was at Kill Creek for 30 minutes Wednesday and saw 1 trout get caught, very little fish activity on the surface either. They did just stock more Friday though so now would be a good time to go. I didn't fish for trout much but I caught 4 bass on a jerkbait. Quote
JakeJohnson Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Decided to go to kill creek Saturday morning to catch whatever bites. When I got there at 1030, there was easily over 50 bank fisherman and 5 boats. Pretty packed for that little lake. Decided to walk and talk to see how everyone was doing. The majority of the people I talked to had a stringer of trout. So I grabbed my rod and one rooster tail since that is the only lure I have that I heard catch trout. I walked the dam for an hour and ended up catching 4 trout. Man, they stock the trout good there. I would say they were 2 lbers. 1 Quote
Ondrejka Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Great way to cap off an already awesome weekend. Another 15+ fish day, and this 3.5. Â Now I think it's time to take the boat in for a few fixes and get in on the very short Walleye spawn window. Â Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I'm keeping the boat. Wife and I are working things out. Both giving and making changes. Won't be able to make Beaver, but hopefully will be able to make it up to Melvern to get a PB Smallie soon. 4 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2015 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2015 If I put all my fish together that I've caught since it started warming up, I'd almost have 1 real fish 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2015 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2015 Only 1 bass to be had this morning along with a limit of trout. A Buzz Baits 110+1 KO got my only green fish. Funny how all the rest ignore your offerings then one just hammers it. Pretty decent fish for Kill Creek too. 1 Quote
RangerDanger Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Did you bring a bucket for those trout? Quote

Troy Taylor Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Hey Brian, are you hitting those Walleyies off the d**n? Thinking of going up there Saturday. Quote

Jond6236 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Well just got back from tablerock and man that is a special lake. We had a ton of boat issues but still caught plenty of fish. Size lacked sadly but still a fun time. Caught all fish on jerks because a rig snapped off. We targeted areas with rock walls and timber. Water temp was 50-60 but we got some cold rain when we left so I don't no how the lake will be for a little Quote
