I'll be on the lower end of the lake but will also be making runs to the gravious arm. I'll know more when I practice Friday. Depends on weather, if the dam is generating, etc. Counting on a good buzz or spook morning bite but also not afraid to put a c&c custom to work ;)

Water's been very clear this year on the lower end, we've got a place in the family at 7mm and it had 8' visibilty this Spring. Just something to prepare for. I know there will be guys down there that fish a buzzbait all day and nothing else.

I don't think I'd have the resilience to stick with one bait like that all day fishing for one bite!

Ya, the clear water doesn't scare me down there. I've had great success on that end of the lake. I've also got some good spots up the Gravois. If it's cloudy I'll throw a buzz all day the first day. It's a big fish bait an in this tourney, that's the key.

It's always a mental game to adjust myself from just looking for 5 fish and then a big bite, to just a big bite all day. Can me mentally draining. The guy in the back of the boat will be fishing jigs and t rigs under docks the entire time. He can seem to keep a top water fish stuck for some reason???

My avatar fish came on topwater, I was in the back seat, and I've got a place to stay at 7mm... sounds like you need a new partner  :laugh5:

Lol. He just can't keep them down and doesn't swing hard enough ;). I on the other hand would love to weigh in the winning fish in the first hour of either day from top water. Lol

After Sizzle got going we gave the smallies an absolute beat down today! Absolutely no idea how many we caught but we caught them all day and at every spot we fished. Nothing big but we got some that were very pretty!

One week until big bass bash at LOZ! I'm losing my mind!

I was down there last weekend and the spook bite was on! Also caught some on a black and blue jig on the pea gravel on the backs of docks. Caught fish on a buzzbait at night but only caught one small fish on it during the day.

I got off to a slow start to say the least but once I put the right color in the water things changed for the awesome. It was so bad for me in the morning Salenity handed me his rod when he caught a fish so I could reel it in. How nice it was just like when I was 5 years old. :fishing2:  Not funny CURT. Any ways things change I caught a nice but skinny walleye. Great day to fish also.

Oh man, that reminds me of fishing there last fall. The spook bite was on then, too! Nothing like a good spook bite at LOZ in the fall!

Sounds great! Thanks for the tip! What color spook? I usually throw a white or clear one and have pretty good luck.

White but I draw three or four lines on the belly of the bait with a black Sharpe.

Had to see what all the fuss was about so headed to lone star with my brother. Only had a few hours, on the water at 315 and off by 615. Caught 11 between the two of us but no big ones. Almost all on Texas rigged plastics and spent all our time in the cove with all the docks. Cool lake and looking forward going back.

Well, got home last night from my Pomme Musky trip this weekend...I'll just start from the top.

Got to the lake by 3:30, checked in at our dump of a resort by 4, and was fishing by 4:30. One of the more popular spots, Martin's Flat, was within 200 yards of our dock, so we opted to hit that first. It's basically a big flat that comes up to about 2-3 feet from 40 marked by a bouy. As we pulled up to the bouy, I readied by GoPro as Keith made his first cast. I made my first cast as he made his second, and before I could get two cranks in, he's tied into a fish five minutes into our trip. She made it in the net and we had our first Musky, a healthy 35". Keith took a break to steady his hands as I continued casting, and about five minutes later I had another mid 30s fish to the boat, but she didn't want to eat on the figure 8. Didn't see another fish for the rest of the evening. Talk about high expectations for the rest of the weekend.

Day two started at 5:30. To make a long story short, we bounced around from spot to spot and cove to cove, but didn't see any fish for most of the day. Very high skies, bluebird conditions, and no wind made things very difficult. I did have another short follow during the afternoon, but again, none that wanted to eat. We talked to our resort neighbors around 5:30 at Martin's Flat, who were with a local guide at the time. They didn't really tell us much of anything we weren't already doing, but did decide to make a run to a known productive cove for the evening window. We started at the beginning of Cooper's Cove, and within 15 minutes, Keith is hooked up again. It made one 3 foot jump boatside, and I somehow managed to catch it perfect in the net. I had my GoPro on my head, but unfortunately it wasn't recording at the time. No official measurement, but it was just below 30". Again, about ten minutes later in the same cut of the cove, I set the hook into a fish boatside, but it had only nipped at my bucktail and she was gone.

After a 13 hour grind Saturday, by Sunday I was prepared to be blessed by the Musky gods for my patience. Both mornings we launched with a tournament, some local Wyandotte guys. Didn't get the club name. Couldn't have been a more picture perfect Musky morning with a nice layer of fog covering the water. We made our way to Cooper's Cove where we saw fish the day before. Nothing until mid morning, when I had another low 30s fish follow me all the way to the boat but bailed on the figure 8. The water was so clear I saw her entire body as she turned away back to the wood. Another missed opprtunity, just couldn't get her to eat. The weather was absolutely awful-more high, blue skies and not a stitch of wind whatsoever. And it was d**n hot. Water temp was up 4 degrees since the first day. And my lack of sleep/fish was wearing on me. We took a break at the marina and watched the Royals game for a little bit to try and figure something out. I'm sure Keith was over it, as he'd already boated two Muskys, buit he just really wanted me to hook up before we had to bail. I just wanted a shot at one more fish during the Major/sunset window. Had one follow me about halfway to the boat, but couldn't get her to stick around for the 8. Glad Keith is a good bud and stuck with me, but unfortunately I blanked.

Great trip, but the weather made it so hard. I thought we were hitting it at the perfect time, but the weather took a turn for the warmest, and didn't help at all. Physically and mentally exhausted, but now I'm just ready to plan another mid-October trip for redemption before the season is over. Lots of follows is truly awesome when it comes to Musky fishing, but always leaves me wanting the hook up. That's all that is on my brain today. And my tail is tucked between my legs. However I will be planning another trip within the next 2-3 weeks. I'm sure Clayton did real well at Hazel and I'm anxious to see.

Well Hazel was fun, but it really seemed to be off. Thursday night was very tough, my buddy never had a bite and only caught 4 or 5 in 6 hours of fishing. Friday was a good numbers day but the big fish that are usually so common there were nowhere to be found. We bailed and went to Paho Saturday but it too failed to produce the big fish that it's so well known for. My old bass club was at Mozingo last weekend and if fished horribly, so maybe the bass in northern Missouri were just in a funk last weekend. We did see a bunch of muskie at Hazel Creek though, which was part of the mission in going up there. I caught a little muskie on a squarebill off a laydown log.

Then towards the end of the day Friday I pitched next to a tree and got a hard tap and set into a good fish. Thought I'd finally found a good bass until she came up and wallowed next to the boat. No leader, in the middle of a bunch of trees, net was still in the locker, it was an interesting fight to say the least. Once finally in the net she shook and cut my line like nothing, even though it was 50lb braid. Wanted to get a tape on her but lots of fight left in her and she plopped back in the water after the weight and pictures, came up at 17 pounds even.

Holding her with the grips while trying to get the tape ready, she threw water everywhere and about took the grips with her right after this picture.

Paho gave up a couple keeper sized bass at least, including Ricky's 19 incher that was our last and biggest bass of the trip.

I had Sunday off with Nicole and my parents were nice enough to watch Lake and Chris was nice enough to loan me his boat so we went to Melvern :) Weather was beautiful, sunny and flat calm, wasn't so sure about how the fishing was going to be, I was pleasantly surprised. I sight fished a nice spot out from under the private dock by the ramp, then Nicole caught a small walleye on her first cast on the ramp with a Ned, her first walleye ever. No amount of pink gloves were getting her to touch that fish  :eyebrows:

20140928_104102_zps59d52607.jpg

I threw a few different baits and caught fish on all of them, unfortunately I settled on a topwater walking bait as the best producer of better quality fish  :respect-059:  I was watching Nicole fight one of what seemed like hundreds of 8" smallmouth she caught when I heard my bait get blasted. Fish sure look like they're doing a lot better than last time I was out there. 18" on the nose, didn't weigh it.

20140928_125324_zps1923bc57.jpg

Nicole continued her multispecies day with her first flathead ever, watch out Curt!  :laugh5:

20140928_125857_zps765195bf.jpg

She got her share of bigger smallies too, including a BLACK 18 incher.

20140928_134628_zpse4d2d54f.jpg

I caught more largemouth than I've caught at Melvern in a single day too, including a few off the dam. Seems the states efforts to stock largemouth in that lake are working. Several times we had fish hooked and several others followed and I kept expecting to double up with my walking bait. When it finally happened wouldn't you know it would be 2 largemouth.

Hopefully it will be that good Saturday.
