Doc-Drew Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Ondrejka, don't feel bad. I too had outboard troubles. Speaking of that, does anyone know there way around a 1988 Force 50 hp? 1 Quote

Check with any mercury dealer/service center and they should be able to help you, or at least point you in the right direction. To my knowledge the parts for those old Force outboards are hard to come by anymore. 2 Quote

I had a 88 85HP on my first boat, one of the reasons I went Yamaha this time. There is one guy over in Raytown that worked on mine, not sure if he wants his name out on a public forum. PM me if you want his number. Parts are really hard to find and they will most likley be used or rebuilt. I'm sure any decent marine mechanic can figure out the problem. Quote

Doc-Drew Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Theirs a guy by Hillsdale that worked on my force 85 but these engines always have trouble Maybe I should have been more specific. I'm not sure if it's actually the motor but the steering is extremely difficult. The motor runs fine but steering not so much. Just need it to last me a few more years so I can get something nicer. Doc-Drew Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I was wondering Probably need a new steering cable. I was wondering about that. I may try to disassemble it this week and clean/re-grease it and see if that helps. Thanks for your help and recommendations everyone Quote

Thanks for your help and recommendations everyone There should be an adjustment you can make to loosen/tighten the steering. My dad has done mine before, so I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it's usually a quick fix. Quote

Jond6236 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 OK what lake do you guys think is the best choice, I'm taking a friend of a friend who is just starting out fishing and I've narrowed it down to melvern, Osage, and la cygne? Quote

Dpb2 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Go to Coffey county between, sat. Sun, and Today caught around 80 smallmouth combined by myself. Vast majority were between 14-16 inches. Counted 7 that were 17-17/12. No pigs but there in there. Caught some nice blacks too. Probably 6 boats on lake at all times. I fished from 7:30 -230. There in the grass. Wind is a big help. Once it got dead calm and high sky's today it got tough. Coffey county is a Catching lake not a fishin lake. Guys are catching fish on the riprap too. Had them trying to take the bait out of another's mouth as I was bringing it in. Haven't seen that since winter fishin on table rock with the a-rig. Quote

Ondrejka Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Lost a real heartbreaker at Lone Star tonight. Probably would have topped 6+. Went back to the same dock 3 times before dark and nothing. Got it on my GoPro too. Not sure if I can even stand to watch the footage..UGH. Quote
Dpb2 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I was talking to a buddy on the phone telling him to forget hunting and come fishing. I had my lure in the water with about 4' of line in the water drifting over the grass patches with the wind not payin attention and I caught a 16"er. They aren't going anywhere. Once they move in the grass like that they will be there for awhile. Never saw a single boat fishin that cover for three days. Not sayin they weren't killing them too on the riprap but it was hard to leave those fish. Lakes down about 3-4 foot. Quote

They just can't resist. Here's a 5# and 4.5# from the past few months. Not to mention the giant I lost tonight. Lone Star is a gem. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 For anyone wanting to fish Miola/Paola Thursday night I did make it there Sunday for a couple hours. I had my son with me so I didn't fish a ton. The fishing was a little tough but I think that was still from the cold front. The water temp was 70* hopefully by Thursday the bite should pick up. For those of you that haven't fished paola before it's a very nice lake with something for everyone. It has a rocky dam, boat docks, weedy shoreline and some deep structure like brush piles and a 20' deep submerged bridge. I know of at least one 6# that came out of that lake (into a skillet) but I'd be shocked if we drug out anything close to that big unless it's one of the 60# Flathead I know were released back into the lake. I may try and fish it again tomorrow night. 1 Quote
