Bailing on things seems to be a theme for me lately. Got sucked into moving my brother-in-law and his family into their new home tonight. Doubtful I'll be able to make it to Mondo but I'll try.

Next weekend I am taking my pond hopper down to the ELk River.  I have floated it several times but am thinking I am going to float further downstream this trip.  Has anyone here floated from MT SHIRA acces down to the COWSKIN access?  If yes, is it deeper than the earlier stretch?  (from pineville down to Mt shira)  I have always taken out at Mt Shira. any input would be GREATLY appreciated.  I have read onlin that the downstream stretch gets less traffic, So I just want to make sure that's not because its super shallow.

Ive only floated from Hogs Haven to Shira. Great little float.

Melvern was pretty good yesterday. Got there about 0600 and fished around the marina cove until the marina opened. We stopped so I could use the facilities and Mike dropped a jig in the water to get a birds nest out and had a pretty nice spot come up and grab it. Made our way to the dam and the sunken island on the north side by the dam. I threw everything I could think of at them without any luck. Finally gave up and started throwing Ned. Non stop is the only way to describe it. Nothing huge but that doesn't really matter with smallies. Can't even count how many 12-14" fish we caught. Our biggest 3 fish of the day were never seen. I had two really big fish just come undone and Mike had something huge break him off. I'd like to think it was a walleye or catfish but who knows. Didn't really see any shad but the wind had something to do with that. The fish did seem a little thicker than the last time we were there, hopefully they're fattening up on shad. We fished for about 4 hours and probably caught 60-75 between the two of us.

Probably headed out to Leavenworth State Lake this afternoon, empty back seat if anyone is interested. You'll probably have to meet me out there is the only bad thing.

Good to hear that report cbass.

Headed to Melvern tomorrow morning with Conor. Hoping to be fishing by 6:30. Very much looking forward to doing better than I did solo last week. Been dreaming of bronze all week.

Going to be a cold one tomorrow morning. Hopefully they're as active as they were yesterday. We had fish all over the place whenever we had one on. I had a PIG swipe at the ned when it was in the mouth of about a 12" fish. You would have thought a crank or spinnerbait would have caught some fish considering all the follows back to the boat we had. I even threw a jerkbait for a little while but didn't get anything.

I was just about to ask... one would think that bite can't be far off with this cold weather!

It wasn't as clear as it has been, the wind had something to do with that I assume since the waves were pounding in on the dam. I saw 76 degrees the couple times I looked at the depth finder.

I was gonna say, it was still 76 last Saturday and can't imagine it could have changed much.

Drew and I fished Leavenworth State Lake in the beautiful weather yesterday afternoon. I got on the water about 2 and Drew got out there around 3:30. Took me a minute to start to figure them out but we ended up on a really strong pattern by the end. Bluegill colored moving baits were far and away our best colors and water 6' or shallower was where they needed to be at. Backs of any pocket and the backs of the major arms were for sure our best spots. Water has come back up a lot but still a few feet low. Lots and lots of shoreline vegetation in the water but very few fish out of that stuff, just on the edges of it. I was doing most my damage with a Baby Gill Big Head Wobbler with a lime purple passion Pit Boss rigged sideways on the back, Drew started slow and then set them on fire with a KVD 1.0 in bluegill color. I also caught a few on a spinnerbait and Duo Realis Popper 64 and quite a few on a XRK50 also. No monsters but lots of very healthy looking fish, many of them had very large craws in their throats but we couldn't hardly get a bite on a jig. I also caught about a 3 pound wiper and showed Drew how to bass fish for catfish using a chunk of a bluegill he caught and caught 7-8 pound channel cat. We didn't keep track of numbers but there was well over 50 fish brought to the boat before we called it a night.

For anyone that wasn't at Mondo's Thursday night, this week we'll be at Miola/Paola City Lake on Thursday night at 6PM for the weeknight deal.

Well Melvern was real good to conorsixtakc and I today, despite some motor troubles I had towards the end. We were on the water by 7ish, only one other truck in the parking lot, and holy FOG. I haven't navigated through fog that thick ever. We started out pitching up to the marina rip rap, no takers. Decided to just head to the dam and work our way north to south until the fog burned off. Conor had the first few fish in the boat on the Ned. Two of my first big ones came unbuttoned before I could boat them, one on a tube and one on the Ned. Conor had the upperhand for most of the tour of the dam, channeling his inner Kehde. After the fog burned off, we headed back to the north end of the dam to fish the sunken island. I caught a few decent ones on a 3" 1/8 oz. tube, and Conor, a swimbait, and decided to just keep drifting to the first main lake point, which had the wind blowing right over it in about 3-6 fow. We ended up making 3-4 passes over that point and boated 10 or 11, as well as our biggest fish of the day. That was a fun one. Next pass that didn't produce we made our way to Turkey Creek cove. Ended up striking gold on a few more windblown points and caught probably 8-10 more. My tubes continued to produce, and Conor was switching between a tube and his swimbait, both of which caught fish. Conor had a toad come off and I'm sure he's still sick about it. All in all I'd say we put about 50-60 respectable bronzies in the boat between the two of us (Conor caught a nice channel cat too). Dozens that came unbottoned. A ton of the smallies we caught were spitting up shad as opposed to craws. Ended up patterning the fish real nice, had an absolute blast breaking in my new rod, and getting personal redemption for last weekend's slow trip.

My work schedule changes to 6:30 next week, so I won't make able to make any more Thursday nighters. But I'll be at a Saturday morning or two. Sorry for the huge post.

No. Clinton has been complete crap. Ever since the water levels have been where they actually should be, it completely shut the fishing down. I haven't wet a line at Clinton for weeks. And it's my home waters. Just not worth it. Spend the extra 20 minutes and go to Lone Star.

Hit Cat Claw Lake @ J.A.R. Sunday morning for a few hours. Didn't get any action, didn't see many other anglers seeing much either. Hoping to get back out there this week.

Went back to Leavenworth with my wife on Sunday to enjoy the day and hopefully continue where Blue and I left off. The fishing wasn't nearly as good as Friday afternoon but the weather was much better...funny how that works isn't it? I did manage to catch a 19.5" 3.52lb largemouth on a jig but the rest of the fish were dinks.
