Well i say that because I tried their once and didn't even get a bite (I was fishing in the middle  of the day)

I didn't catch a fish the first 3 times I fished Olathe. Then I got to where I could catch a couple and aimed for 10 fish per trip. Now most trips produce 20-30 fish with several fish over 15". It's not an easy lake to figure out at all, but there's lots of fish in there and some pretty good ones too. It fishes differently than I expected it to I guess and that's probably part of why it took me so long to figure it out.

Don't forget about Mondo Tackle!

X2

Kind of embarrassing that I forgot Mondo Tackle, not like he carries my baits or anything  :laugh5:

Mondo is the place to go to find baits you won't find in the big box stores and prices you won't find anywhere else. I've heard he carries some really nice bladed jigs from a local lure builder too  :eyebrows:

Ha no way I caught some up in minnesota this summer and the colors where much different but that is all it really could be, thanks thats been bugging me for awhile

I grew up fishing for smallmouth in South Dakota. One thing I learned is that smallmouth can very a ton in color and markings. Some that we would catch would have little to no markings and a yellow hue to them while 5 minutes later we would catch one in the same spot that was tiger striped and dark brown to almost black.

These two were caught on back to back cast off the same spot.

Pretty close to the same spot on the same day.

Then you'll get them with great tiger stripes

and some that are almost sand colored.

Call mondo, he ordered me a seven eleven Destroyer and I guarantee you won't find better prices!

He was going to order me a rod yesterday also since he didn't have what I wanted in stock.

Never been out there, always wanted to try it. Do you have to get a boat permit like what you have to do for the jackson county lakes?

Lake Olathe does not require any special permits.  It is not like the Jackson County Lakes.  There is a speed limit of 10mph, which you'll want to watch out for in that kayak!  :laugh5:

As long as you can accurately weigh, measure, and photograph your fish then you're fine. Obviously not going to be able to fish as a team that way but as long as you're okay with being a one man team then you can fish it.

I thought it was 5mph.  Glad to know the limit is 10.

I have an empty backseat tommorrow for Olathe. Shoot me a PM.

If Chris can't make it I have a backseater looking for a ride. I'll know after I get off work at 8am if Chris can make it or not, I'll shoot you a text if he needs a ride still.

Actually how do it go? Big fish?

Chris and Austin won with 5 fish that weighed 9.24lbs and had big fish with a 2 3/4 pound fish. They caught all their fish on bladed jigs. Coty and I had second with 7 1/2 pounds with 5 fish. I think we had the longest fish with a 19 1/4" fish that only weighed 2.49 pounds. Coty caught that one on a baby brush hog.

He had another keeper on a baby brush hog and I had 2 of the keepers on a pit boss and 1 on a 100 series bandit.

RangerDanger had a keeper over 18" also with a skinny 19" fish that weighed 2lbs 11ozs.

We're going to be at Osage State Lake on Saturday September 6th from 6am-noon for anyone interested.
