The big wiper was easily over 10lbs..

That's easily the fattest wiper I've ever seen!  Nice report.

Haven't been on here for a while but glad to hear everyone's been catching fish... Congrats on the graduation drew... As far as fishing reports I've been fishing around lakes here... Shawnee mission, I've been catching them off of white flukes bass and wipers if conditions are right....didn't get to weigh the bass or wipers because my scale ran out of batteries but 1 bass was 19.5 inch and the other was 18.5... The big wiper was easily over 10lbs.. My daughter is 4 so there's the comparison...

They're eating good in the neighborhood! Although I'm not surprised, SMP has huge wipers in it. My pb came from it just over 9# last year. Even ran me around the cedar sticking out of the water at the East end.

Yours looks like 11-12#, nice work!

Now I've seen people measure their fish with multiple different types of items. (Fishing rod, 2 liter Soda Bottles, etc.) But you with your daughter lying on the ground tops them all....LOL.  :hahaha-024:  Great fishing report, too bad my son was born on the 1st otherwise I'd been hitting up SMP more often.

Lol.. Thanks.. I had my tape measurer, but I wanted to compare the wiper with her =]..

Olathe was tough today only caught 4 all together. Throwing my back out did not help either.

A buddy and I decided to try Jacomo last Friday. I've been wanting to fish it for awhile but never have decided to pop for the permit. Since I'm not buying a Wyco or Wabaunsee year pass I figured I could swing the permit out there. It's a really nice lake and the 25ph max restriction keeps a lot of bigger boats off the water. $62.50 for a year pass for my jonboat and 15hp motor, about $40 less than either of the other 2 lakes. It must be a popular lake though, I was parking the truck at 0503 and we were boat number 3 on the water!

With neither of us having any experience on the water we just put the trolling motor down and started fishing. About 2 minutes into the morning I put a chunky 16 incher into the boat on a Big Head Wobbler, followed quickly by another very similar fish on a homemade finesse jig. The size of those first two fish gave me the confidence I needed to start lobbing my 7" Slammer around. Didn't take long before the first fish of the morning smashed into it. Lots of the fish we ended up catching looked like this one, appeared to be recovering very well from the spawn.

Just a few cast later, another toilet bowl flush, and another future Wal Mart Girl.

They weren't all fatties though, don't know why it looks like I was taking pictures with a potato  :laugh5:

We fished south, picking up fish pretty steady, until we ran into the spawning carp. They were everywhere absolutely trashing the shorelines with their shenanigans. We decided to idle across the lake to try to get away from them. Since we were just idling I left the trolling motor down, mistake. We got to the other side, step on the motor, I hear a higher pitched whirling sound than I should and we go nowhere. Pulled the motor up, no prop  :dazed-7:  No idea what happened. Run back to the ramp, no props in the marina, no problem since BPS is 10 minutes away. Get there at 0730, doesn't open until 9  :cry4: . Run to Wal Mart, 2 size props, both for Minn Kota :Idontknow: . Messaging Cbass the whole time and he tells me there's a marine shop that opens at 0830 right by me so I ran there, they had 1 Motorguide prop and it was 20% off because they weren't going to carry trolling motor props anymore  :respect-059:

Back to the water and back in business. We cut straight across the lake to a steeper rock bank, first cast with a shakyhead I was back on fish. Shakyhead started boating good numbers of solid fish so I put on an 1/4oz Rocker head with a baby brush hog, first fish with it.

5 1/2 pounds, biggest largemouth of the year so far. We continued steadily putting fish in the boat on shakyheads, Slammer, wacky rig, senko, and Rocker head with a baby brush hog. Going across the dam I set into a fish that just didn't move. She started to come up, shook her head and the hook popped, probably in the 7lb range. Next cast, another bite, 5 pounder slashes across the surface and pulls off. Several more fish across the dam but nothing that big. Got to a boulder bank with lots of water willow, pulled the Slammer back out. Got a couple quick ones before it got destroyed as soon as I started the retrieve. A 6-7 pound fish wallowed on the top, steamrolled into the water willows and pulled off  :cry3: . Should have had a high 20 to nearing 30 pound bag, instead ended up probably around 18-20 pounds, still a great day.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forums. I fished Lake Jacomo today and didn't have as much luck as Bluebasser86 had last week. I got to the lake at 0530 and fished until 1230. I loaded up the kayak just as the rain started. I only managed one channel cat, one largemouth and a blue gill. I threw just about everything I had and ended up catching everything on bomber A.

Made it back from Rainy Lake, Ontario.  Was a great trip, except for the rock that messed up my prop, glad I carried a spare!

Welcome to the forum! I threw a crankbait a lot and never had a bite, only hard bait I could get bit on was a 7" MS Slammer (in the pictures). Stick worms, baby brush hogs, and trick worms caught most of our fish.

Any of you guys have much experience on Stockton this time of year? This weekend should be the first chance I've had to fish it. May even try and troll up some dinner too   :eyebrows:

I'm thinking topwater on points early, spinnerbait, deep jigs / big t-rigged worms, deep crank, probably some grubs (I like the looks of the rage twin tail menace grub) and shakey heads too.

Hopefully I'll have a report to share come Monday.

Awesome looking trip!

Looking for some lakes to do some fishing off the bank as I don't own a boat. Been taking my daughter out to James A Reed, but I want to check out some other areas. Drove around Blue Springs and Jacomo last week trying to scout out some areas to fish from the bank. Not sure there were many bank fishing areas (uncrowded), plan to scout it some more. Also planning on renting a boat with my dad next week to take on Jacomo during a weekday. Any recommendations from the KC crew? BTW, I haven't been fishing in 10 years and starting to get back into it heavily and getting my 7yr daugher involved. Been lurking on this site the past week and really enjoy the information on here and the friendly banter.

After years of our lakes being anywhere from 1-4 foot below normal pool,

I'm happy to say it looks like we're finally back to normal.

Should change fishing quite a bit, hopefully for the better.

Nice fish Curt, where you find it?
