Brian6428 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 That's the kind of lake these big bass boats are made for! Yeah, I know. Just not completely confident in my boating skills just yet. Quote
SuperFluke Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 im slowly coming to the Ned side I can't believe somebody sold you a Kansas fishing license with that attitude. I think Kansas Fishing Regulation 34.b.2 states that you have to have a Ned tied on at all times or they can take your license. 1 Quote

Speaking of the Ned, had anyone ever tried a longer hook and keeping it 5"? Just wondering if it might weed out some smaller fish or if it would just be like a normal senko. Quote

I've had really good luck with a 4" stick o on an 1/8oz jighead in deeper water than Ned usually works in. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 27, 2014 Super User Posted May 27, 2014 I have been playing with these on an 1/8th oz. mushroom head, they are 4 inches and float, the tassels seem to draw some attention. Quote

If you put the hook in the end with the tentacles it gives a really interesting look to the bait too. I've had good luck with them on a dropshot and split shot rig as well. Quote
2003Stratos Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 It's hard to believe the smallies at Melvern only bite on 1 thing. I've already let the cat out of the bag when I talked to Clayton. Who knew?!? Quote

I've already let the cat out of the bag when I talked to Clayton. Who knew?!? They'll bite on about about anything when the mood strikes them. I've caught them from tiny little 2" crappie tubes to 7" swimbaits, spinnerbaits, jigging spoons, all kinds of crankbaits, traps, jerks, worms, tubes, jigs, senkos, shakyheads, about everything. The ned is just about as sure a thing as there is out there, that's why it gets talked about so much. Quote
Doc-Drew Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 My father in law is coming into town this weekend (hence why I cannot go on the trip to grande). My wife wants to take him fishing for a few hours. Anyone have some suggestions for lakes or ponds? He said he likes using top water frogs but other than Miami, I don't know of anywhere to use them. On that note, I visited Miami this week... The whole lake looked like this Very think and very dense Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 28, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 28, 2014 Pleasanton East gets a good frog bite at times but not sure the weeds will be grown up enough there yet. Quote
joefish Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Started getting stuff together and packing up for my annual trip to Rainy Lake, Ontario. Can't wait..........leaving Saturday 4:00 AM. Whoo hoo! 2 Quote

Doc-Drew Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Were you able to get a boat on it? I didn't bring my boat but as I was leaving, a couple of guys launched a 17' tracker. Quote

Have fun!! My buddy is at Lake of the Woods right now and from what I've heard they're doing pretty well on EVERYTHING. He posted a picture on Sunday of a 14.5" crappie he caught off the dock at the resort. Also posted one of about a 30" pike a guy caught that had about a 12" crappie in its stomach. They've caught some pretty impressive smallies as well, biggest picture they're posted is a 19" brownie. Quote
fknlo Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Anyone have any tips for Shawnee Mission Park? I went there a couple times the past couple weeks and it has been absolutely brutal. Quote
pbrussell Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I'm trying to gauge interest in having a get together, perhaps in the summer for Lacygne. Here's how I'd like it to go down: The format thus far has been 5 biggest combined fish between partners, whether it be length or weight. Because la cygne is known as a big fish fishery, I thought it'd be fun to do a big bass bash of sorts. My idea is boaters biggest fish, and non boaters biggest fish: so that'd be two biggest fish (highest combined weight) is the winner. It would likely change how everyone fished, looking for just one bite instead of a bunch. Plus, I wouldn't complain with only catching one fish all day if it was an 8 lber. Quote

I've caught fish on just about everything out there; the most consistent is the ned, however there are days when they don't want it as much as they want a crankbait. Really, if you have these five baits on, you'll catch fish on one of them: Ned, Tube, Spinnerbait, Crankbait (either small squarebill or medium diver) spook. Quote

SuperFluke Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Made it to Melvern with my brother today. Caught 55 bass between the two of us. Most on the ned or a tube and the dinks are back on the banks and hungry. A few nice ones that we'd run into every once in awhile, but they seemed spawned out compared to when we were last there in April. A little skinny and bite was extremely subtle. Water was pretty dirty in some of the creeks and around 75 everywhere. Key to the bite today was the wind. Find a windy (relatively) bank or point, and you could catch five or six in a row. Had two key areas where we caught most all of our fish. Fish were all shallow in 1-3' of water right up on the bank. Also, the gar spawn is on! They are on every rocky bank jumping, spawning, and generally making noise. I snagged a 20lb gar on my ned and fought it all the way to the boat until we realized we didn't know what to do with it. Couple of pics of our best ones. On a tube on the last cast of the day. Anybody recognize the bank? My brother with a good ned fish. 1 Quote
joefish Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Hope you guys have a great time on Grand. I'm heading the other way Saturday. Going to Rainy Lake, Ontario for a week of small mouth and northern pike fishing. Way back in the woods, no TV, no Cell Phone, no wife, but will have indoor toilet and shower ! Hope I get some nice pics to pot when I get home. 1 Quote

MattX Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Haven't been on here for a while but glad to hear everyone's been catching fish... Congrats on the graduation drew... As far as fishing reports I've been fishing around lakes here... Shawnee mission, I've been catching them off of white flukes bass and wipers if conditions are right....didn't get to weigh the bass or wipers because my scale ran out of batteries but 1 bass was 19.5 inch and the other was 18.5... The big wiper was easily over 10lbs.. My daughter is 4 so there's the comparison... 3 Quote
