1strikeking Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Hi all! It's been a long time since I've stalked the forum or posted anything, but I've recently caught a serious fishing bug. I'll just reintroduce myself. I'm live in the South OP area, and I typically fish the Lake of the Ozarks. The kidlets activities have kept me from going to the lake, however summer is almost here so I'll be going down weekly starting on Memorial Day weekend. The last few weeks I've just been hitting local ponds bank fishing...some private and some public. Its been a fun learning experience fishing some of these smaller waters from shore! I'm on a roll...I've caught at least 1 bass everyday for the last 8 days! After reading some of posts on here I'm going to try to hit Cedar Lake and see what I can come up with. I look forward to sharing some info! I hope you will be night fishing or fishing up the river near Truman dam. My buddy just bought a lake house up the river on lake of the ozarks so i will be down there quite a lot this summer. Quote
Jim Fish the Zarks Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Have you made it down to LOZ this Spring? Despite taking a while to turn on like all the other lakes, it's been a good one! My next trip down won't be until memorial day weekend after that I try to get down every weekend through the fourth of July. Despite all the commotion fishing can still be great as long as you're willing to fish early and at night. Not to mention the surplus of people watching and general hijinks that make for fun afternoons on the water I went down for the Big Bass Bash...but I didn't do well at all. I was down for 1 day 2 weeks ago and did really well on a blue jig on longer stretches of rip rap halfway in the back of coves. I agree the water gets a little crazy, but it can still be fun. We usually have a house full of kids so I typically take them trolling with an 8' shad crank...the wave action creates some erratic baits making catching fish easy for the kidlets. Quote

My brother has a place at the 52 mile marker, and I try to fish it a few times a summer. His house is next to a channel bend and a mud flat that is 3 miles long which is a great place to drift for blue cats. Quote

I look forward to sharing some info! Welcome back Jim, just wanted to share with you some spots I've managed to pull out some 2-3lbs largemouth a few years ago. Don't know if they'll still be productive but hopefully you'll have some luck. When you enter the lake from the south end off of 159th st. There is a cove immediately to your left once you reach the lake. That spot has been producing some decent size bass for me a few years ago. I know now that the water is down some due to the drought but hopefully you can still get some there. I've also always wanted to try by the bridge on Lone Elm rd but it was just too far a walk for me so I've never have. I hope you have some luck at the lake. Quote
Nap8tak Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Welcome Austin! Good to see you on here! Hope to see you and Blake at one of the get togethers sometime. I've never fished it but I've considered it many times. Anywhere that's produced 13lb fish that's within a decent drive is going to get my attention I think you got the 2 lakes mixed up Bluebasser, the place Austin is talking about is Paradise Lake resort just outside of Blue Springs, MO. The place that you're talking about is Anglers Paradise, which is over in Liberal, MO. I've never tried either place, but like you said anyplace that has produced 13lbs Bass is worth fishing. Good luck and thanks for the info guys. Quote
Nap8tak Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Hey guys I'm new to the forum my name is Austin Whitmore. I moved to KC from California a few months ago. Have any of you fished Paradise Lake Resort in Lone Jack Missouri? Welcome to KC Austin, if you love bassin' you've got to try Miami Lake. That's one of the places I've found in the KC area where the fish are soo aggressive. Couple years ago I was catching bass froggin' miday in 100 degree weather. I got sunburned bad but didn't notice it when the bite is that hot. Averaging 25 bass an hour it is my go to lake if I'm fiending for some action. Another nice lake to visit is La Cygnes Lake. Nice warm water year round (Due to the Power plant) helps the bass get big in this lake. Only problem is it is very limited for shore fishing. Good luck to you buddy. Quote
Jim Fish the Zarks Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I was at the Overland Park Arboretum today with my sons class for a field trip. They have a bridge that crosses over Wolf Creek...to my surprise I saw 2 large male bass sitting on beds just off of a pool in about 2 feet of water. I also saw a dark shadow in another pool about 30 yards from the males holding onto some cover...probably a good sized female. Has anyone floated or fished Wolf Creek? I'm guessing these bass are naïve with very little pressure. It would be fun to float a worm or creature down this creek in a 'yak. Quote
Doc-Drew Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Welcome to KC Austin, if you love bassin' you've got to try Miami Lake. Speaking of Miami, has anyone fished it lately? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 9, 2014 Super User Posted May 9, 2014 Speaking of Miami, has anyone fished it lately? Don't waste your time, about 3 weeks ago the vegetation was thick enough you could barely move. Quote
joefish Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Went to Lacygne with a couple old friends today. Had a pretty good day. Here is a pic of a nice 3 1/2. Caught quite a few others just not quite as big. Also caught several channel cats and a flathead that would probably go 7#. That was fun on a fitness rod. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 10, 2014 Super User Posted May 10, 2014 This was Miami a few weeks ago 80% of the lake looks like this Quote

It was a little slow for us but not a bad day We got a 3/11 for our biggest LM and some really nice Drum (after I got the boat started) lol Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 10, 2014 Super User Posted May 10, 2014 Thanks Salenity, I LOVE Punching that thick stuff. I'll have to try this week. Good luck! Let me know if you can get a boat on it or if you have to bank fish? That lake has drastically gone down hill for bass fishing in the past couple years. I know for a fact it's far enough out in the sticks the 18" length limit is ignored! We watched a guy put 4 shorts in his boat and we contemplated calling the Game warden until one of his buddies showed up and jumped in the boat saying they were going to fish all night. Quote

Jim Fish the Zarks Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 A buddy of mine and I fished Cedar Lake today for 30 minutes. His first cast he landed a 2 lb on a chatterbait...3rd cast another slightly larger fish on a chatterbait. He then switched to a Ned rig just for kicks and he gave me the chatter bait....1st cast and it snags...forever gone. His next cast he snagged and lost his Ned. I tied a football jig on and then lost it! Oh well I know have a good reason to go back to Bass Pro for more gear. It seems like that lake has some serious snags in the two "coves" close to the boat ramp by the dam. Quote

I only fished it once last year for 2 hours on a perfect morning and only managed 1 dink. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 11, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 11, 2014 I've been around here and there this past week. Fished a pond for awhile Wednesday. Wasn't nearly as good as I'd hoped but I did get one pretty decent one that looked to be a spawned out female on one of my bladed jigs. Thursday I met up with NavyGuy1522 at Douglas to fight the wind for a few hours. Fish were really eating a jig, spinnerbait, and bladed jig. We'd get on a good group of fish and then go awhile with nothing until the next little school. Matt got a keeper saugeye on a deep crank and right before we left he was dragging a jig through the rocks and hooked something that was obviously larger than the little bass we'd be catching. Gave him a pretty good fight before I got the net under her. After a couple quick pictures a very healthy 11lb channel cat was back in the lake. Friday Jon and I fished Mozingo. Started out really good. I lost a solid feeling fish on about my 3rd pitch then caught a nice keeper a couple flips later. Lost another one before we started catching them steadily on a Pit Boss or our home made bladed jigs. Had a few smaller fish on squarebills in the mix as well. Jon with our Pit Boss/BHW keepers/double. They were smoking the BHWs Jon got the big fish of the day on the bladed jig. Didn't weigh it, pretty long and skinny, probably in the 3lb range. Things got real tough after noon, but it was a fun day with lots of fish caught. Quote
