Skeeter9948 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I caught a majority of my keepers at Wyco last year powerfishing with either a jig or 10" worm. I was doing well at Olathe the last couple weeks but I bet after all this rain the water out there is trashed. You know I didn't think about the water at Olathe being fairly torn up. After having a tough tournament on Wilson and then a rough go at the Dotte I'm just ready to get on some fish haha. Maybe I'll just go fish the local farm pond and clean up. Nothing cures a bad trip than catching 30 in 2 hours...even if they arent huge lol. Quote

Olathe has those 3 big inflows that bring a ton of trash and mud into the lake anytime it rains but it may have cleared up a little by now. The water out there is never very clear and they'll bite in muddy water, just the cold weather combined with the mud I'd be concerned about. Quote

H2oBks Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Hey guys new to the forum found it about a month ago. I fish alot of the same water headed to melvern tomorrow any tips welcome never been down there jerkbaits/tube? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 3, 2014 Super User Posted May 3, 2014 Yep that sounds good. As a general rule I don't have any luck on the west half of the lake. Try the dam and bounce around try the points. By now they may be in the coves? Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Fished El Dorado yesterday. I got a couple, but he seemed to have worked a pattern out. Light CRig dragging baby brush hog on beds.. thats right. Smallies sitting on beds. Its starting fellows!!! Water temps 58-62 Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Still tuning my HB, but I got some shots of the trees at El Dorado. 30FOW, and some had 20-30 more foot out if the water Quote
H2oBks Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Thanks for the info headed down later today I'll let you know how I do Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 4, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 4, 2014 We saw some fish on beds at Gardner last Thursday but it was too windy and stained where we were to fish for them. Never got to fish for smallies on beds but I've heard they're super aggressive. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 They were smacking the tar out of that baby brush hog. Quote

pbrussell Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 It works I think you need to hold the camera closer to the fish, because i mean, it's pretty far away from the camera. Joking aside, whatd that one go and where were you fishin' Quote
pbrussell Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Finished in the middle of the pack after our two day tournament at melvern. My non-boater kicked me in the teeth today by weighing three fish, and I only weighed one. I think I need to start guiding Anyhow, lotta fish weighed but no real giants. Seems folks were catching them on a bit of everything with the exception of moving baits all too much. Jigs, tubes, ned, shakeyhead, biffle hard head - those seemed to be the key players this week. Biggest fish brought to the scales was a 4.24 largemouth. No smallies over four were weighed to my knowledge but a couple came close. Coulda used some of those three pounders you guys got into the other weekend, thats for sure. The flat water probably didn't help make the big fishies want to play though. Quote

conorsixtakc Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 First of all, congratulations @SuperFluke on the new addition to the family. My better half and I are working on buying a house and starting a family of our own. Got in a bit of fishing down at the family cabin on LOZ, and spent all of Saturday cleaning the tritoon for another summer of debauchery. Got down Thursday night, to my surprise the water was STILL gin clear and caught a bunch of dink largemouths and a bass sized slab walking the dog just under the surface with the Ned. First time I've fished it that way and it can walk it under the surface surprisingly well. Friday was awesome. Spotted a bedding male and female in the morning, caught the male pretty easily on a GP shaky worm but the female just wasn't interested. Proceeded to throw a wacky stiko, pit boss, and even a live minnow in front of her face and she wouldn't bite. Oh well. Got into some spots pretty well on the shaky and made for a fun afternoon. Came back in the early evening and wham! She figured she was ready to eat the shaky worm. Rounded off Friday night catching 10+ slabs from the dock, nothing under 12". Heaven. 1 Quote
H2oBks Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 So made it down to melvern last night cool lake caught several smallies nothing to brag about broke off a nice one at the boat. All of then came on shakeyhead couldn't get bit on the jerkbait. Water was 58 avg. Quote

That makes me happy. I personally like to eat bass but I can't stand to kill an 18" anymore. I wish they'd let you keep a couple 15" instead of a 18" minimum but that's just me... 1 Quote

You and one other person keeping 10 12 inchers is a pretty good little mess of fish and they're much better eating at that size. I think Miami is going to that same slot limit too and could certainly stand to lose some small fish. Douglas has much cleaner water though. 1 Quote
