Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 11, 2014 Global Moderator Posted April 11, 2014 that sounds awesome  when and where  do you all meet and take off from http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/129650-kc-spring-get-together/  There's the thread for all 3 of the spring get togethers. We already had one last month. This next one is the 19th at Melvern. We'll be taking off at 7 or 8 in the morning (weather permitting) and we usually fish until 3. We launch from the state park ramp nearest the dam on the north side of the lake. It's always a good time and I don't think we've ever had someone not catch a fish. My wife fished with me last year (and will again this year) and caught her new PB smallmouth that was the second biggest fish caught. Quote
Caballo de Rio Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Went out to Lake Jacomo for a quick trip this morning for about 2hrs.. It was my first time to fish this lake from a boat. I had a little trouble finding a bite. Water temp was low 50's. I flipped a jig and threw a crank bait. I had one bite on the jig but other than that nothing.  I went to Longview lake this evening and found the fish staging out in front of coves . Water temp was in the mid 50's and I had my 5 y/o with me so we/I didn't fish much.   Quote
sizzlefry Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 went to melvern today. I suck at fishing. I will never fish again. end of report 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2014 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2014 went to melvern today. I suck at fishing. I will never fish again. end of report Maybe the 30mph winds didn't help much? Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I burned twice as much gas trying to drive into the wind coming back from son's bowling tourney in Topeka!!!! Quote
sizzlefry Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Maybe the 30mph winds didn't help much? I would love to blame the wind but everyone else caught at least one fish. I have been skunked the last 4 outings Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 well sizzle it was a very tough day. we started at the dam and was catching whites and smallies pretty constantly on Ned rigs and jerkbaits / pointer size. and the wind decided to pick up from there. i cant remember what time you guys got there mid morning as the wind was already bad. but we went to to the marina and into the coves to get out of the wind nothing i think one came out of a cove and so we tried main lake walls and big chunck rocks but still nothing special. then we ran all the way to the other side of the lake and fished some cranks through the trees got one doing that and man was it muddy stained water back there. the ran back to state park ramp and milked that for all it was worth for couple hours. it just wasnt good so we ran back to the island thinking maybe they are on the flats of that eating bait fish but couldnt fish a jerkbait. all we could throw was a crank bait so we did and nothing. and went back to the boat ramp for one final pass and excepted defeat. hope next week the weather is a bit better or the wind anyways. Mr_Scrogg Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Well hopefully things will be better next weekend!!! Quote
conorsixtakc Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Spent 24 hours with some family at 7mm, just south of the Gravois on LOZ and just got back. GP jig/pit chunk drew good bites shallow, no big females though.Oh and my buddy caught a 23" walleye on a squarebill at Clinton.Weird weekend. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 14, 2014 Global Moderator Posted April 14, 2014 I'm a little late I guess but I fished Olathe last Thursday after I got off work from about 9:45-1. Green pumpkin bladed jig and a Table Rock shad 100 pointer caught a majority of my fish, probably close to 30. Nothing big but all fat and healthy fish that were crushing the bait. I did lose something big on an A-rig, had it hooked for 10 seconds then gone. Even with a 7' 10" H rod and 25lb copolymer it was in no hurry to come to the boat. No area was really that much better than anywhere else. I also found 13 crankbaits while I was fishing thanks in large part to all the shore anglers I'm sure 1 Quote
lineman82637 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 What a weather ride this weekend . I went to Clinton on Friday and nothing even shook a line ,then Saturday went to Leavenworth state lake (tongi lake ) and hit the jack pot ! i fished for about 4 hrs and caught over 50 bass ranging from 10 inches to 3 lbs . the wind was blowing hard so i dropped the power pole and ripped grass in about 5 ft of water . I had the whole arm to my self lol( no one could hold their boat ) one of my best days in awhile . Quote
SuperFluke Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Any of you guys have any experience towing with a midsize SUV? In particular, I'm looking at downsizing to a V6 AWD Toyota Highlander. It's rated for 5,000 lbs, so it would seem that it has plenty of capacity to pull my 17' aluminum triton. I was hoping somebody might have some experience towing with a Highlander or something similar that they'd be willing to share. Can you stop? What kind of mileage do you get, etc? I used to tow my boat with a V6 S10. It did pretty well, got about 15mph and had no problem stopping. 1 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 I towed my last boat with my Astro 1 Quote
cbass12 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 We used to tow a buddy's 16' deep V tracker with a ford escape and it did just fine. Stopping was a little hairy sometimes but as long as you pay attention and anticipate your stops you'll be fine. I had an explorer for about a year and towed our 18' fish n ski with it. It obviously did not have as much power as I would have liked with the V6, but it could handle it. We have trailer brakes so stopping was not an issue. If you don't have trailer brakes the problem you'll run into is a lot of extra wear on your vehicle's brakes. 1 Quote
joefish Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Neighbor tows a 16 ft Lowe with a V6 Highlander and has no problems. i 'be been with him several trips and does good, even in Ozark hills. I used to tow my Javelin with a Ford Ranger 4.0 V6. No problem unless was a long hill then shifted a lot. Had to watch a little closer about stopping as braking force was not nearly as good as my F150 has now. I don't think you would have any issues. MPG on Ranger was less than the F150 towing, around 13.5 or 14. 1 Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-515156154 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Went out to Kill Creek and fished from shore. VERY windy, so I rigged up a Neko rig for the first time and got 2. Switched over to a Jerk Bait and started having much more success. Everyone else was fishing for trout (thanks to recent stockings and submitted state record). Closer to sun down the wind died down and the water turned to glass. Kept telling the dog, "Just one more..." but I couldn't get myself to leave when the fish kept coming in.  1 Quote
