I'm a long time lurker, but this story persuaded me to make my first post. You are equally to blame as he is. As a coangler, you should never cast in front of the center console, its just common courtesy. I know it can be a pain if the boater is moving too fast for your bait, but that's just part of it. As a coangler, you just adapt to what your boater is doing. Sometimes it goes against your plan, but you are at his mercy until you get a boat. I've been fishing tournaments for more years than you've been alive, and if you continue to taunt your partners and have a cocky attitude, you will not make many friends in this sport. I would work on your character and class before you buy your first boat. That attitude has no place in competitive bass fishing. Your boater didn't break any rules, he just didn't cater to your needs.

So you've never had a cast sail on you and possibly cross that magic line in the middle of the boat? I agree that you shouldn't cast past the center of the boat unless you ask your boater if it's alright but sometimes a cast gets away from you for whatever reason. He said his boater asked him not do do it again after the first time and he agreed not to. He said he didn't do it again until after it sounds like his boater basically parked the boat on the bank so there was no way for him to fish. I'd certainly take that as a bit of a passive aggressive message that if it was up to his boater he wouldn't get a chance to catch another fish. Sure his boater pays lots of money and certainly gets first shot at the fish, I agree with that. However, the nonboater also pays his dues and fees and shouldn't be at the mercy of some guy that wants to be a jerk and work almost as hard to prevent his nonboater from catching fish as he's working to catch his own.

It was an ABA tournament also, not the Bassmaster Classic. The guys living wasn't at stake if his nonboater happened to catch his potential winning fish. I do agree that maybe Chris could have kept his cool a little better and just waited to take up the issue with the tournament director after the tournament, but if I'd spent my hard earned money and actually had a shot to do something in the tournament I can't say that I wouldn't have reacted the same way. It also makes no sense for someone to ask his nonboater to not make a cast past the centerline of the boat, and then start paralleling the bank? If you can't cast at the bank and the boat is moving too fast to even attempt a cast to deeper water, then you should just sit down, shut up, and be quiet while the grown up in the front of the boat catches his fish? I agree that there were mistakes made on both sides, but in my eyes, the boater was the cause of a majority of the heartache in this instance.

oh im not saying i was innocent at all. matter of fact im short tempered i just dont think he was used to a guy in the back of the boat out fishing him and or have as much talent as i had. which we are talking about me im not bragging just saying im above average for aba stockton tourny. it was just a storm of attitude on both side and i wanted to get physical lol. no biggy just telling the story  i under stand all points made. my point is if he was a friendly guy and we could of had fun and took 1 and 2 in the tourny instead of fighting all day competing against eachother instead of a whole bunch of people it took money out of both our pockets.

Thanks guys I think I've decided I'm not joining squat! I like the idea of fishing with who I want when I want and if it's not nice out I can stay home.

That said let's hurry up and get "our" tournaments planned!

That's why I like the team formats so you get to pick your own partner. I've only done it once with a buddy I worked with at Cabela's. We fished Jackpot Buddy Bass together and didn't win a dime all year, it was as much fun as I've had tournament fishing though.

Agreed Clayton any buddy format would be better so everyone's on the same page and it cuts cost in half which always helps.

Sorry for the late report but I convinced my wife to go fishing at Coffey with me last Monday (MLK Day). We ended up fishing for about 4 hours before the wind picked up and we decided to leave. Between the two of us, we caught 13 fish. Combination of smallmouth, largemouth, and wipers. Biggest fish was a 18.5" 3.70 lbs on a Ned rig on my second cast.

I was REALLY looking forward to you kicking my butt. Should we just join that team deal?

Just got 2 in La Cygne . Stripes one 2 two pound another 5. On lip less near the outlet

Posted

Water temp at Lacygne is 45-49 degrees depending where you are from the outlet. Last time out we boated 2 LM a handful of Wipers and a couple crappie. The bite is slow but quality size like normal. 15 plus boats on the water also which is a lot when everyone hits the same spots.

Quick question for anyone who knows the Pittsburg Ks area. My son is a freshman down at Pitt state and I want to take the boat down that way in the spring. I know they have the strip pits down there, bone creek is close and fort Scott is an option. Any other spots we should consider down that way? Thank guys!

Big Hill not too far away from there, but never fished it.

I have fished the FLW-BFLS as a co-angler alot.  Some guys really hate when you cast up in front.  But most don't mind as long as its water they have already had a shot on.  I have fished with out of guys and learned alot.  My first one ever I drew Bob Richardson!  Had some guys tell me just fish like its any Saturday on the water.  And others that were a little more testy.   One thing I have noticed.  When you are outfishing them they get irritated evern if they are nice!

Bone Creek can be a lot of fun but it can be really tough as well. Fort Scott is a good lake, lots of fish and good quality, can get pretty tough at times though. Cedar Creek is your dream lake if you love flipping timber. It's a fairly new lake so there aren't a lot of big fish though, not sure you could ever get one out of all the trees even if you did hook one anyways. Bourban State Lake is great if you want to just catch a ton of fish, 100 fish days aren't really even that hard out there, but you may have to catch that many to get one over the 18" mark. Elm Creek is a great lake if you want to be really, really frustrated after your day on the water, unless you're catfishing I guess. The pits can be really fun but they take a ton of trial and error to figure out when, where, and with what. There is just so many of them and just because one is bad one trip, doesn't mean it can't be great the next and vice versa. Don't bother with Big Hill, it's never done anything to impress me. It's about the same drive to Stockton as it is to Big Hill, not a very hard decision there.

You know what model those Mann's baits are? Should say somewhere on them. If they're anything less than the 30+ (do we have any lakes that deep other than Melvern??) then I'd trade you some jigs or chatterbaits for the Mann's deep cranks and the super spook?

Posted

Well I was wanting to get in on the spook, I guess I'm a little too late.

Well Wolf Creek was kind of awesome yesterday. Weather was nice and to say they were biting would be a serious understatement. We caught over 100 for sure, probably had over 100 just with largemouth. We found one school and caught them as fast as we could be a bait in the water for about an hour and half to 2 hours. Our home made Wobbler bladed jigs and Rock N' Roller bladed jigs and anything on my Rocker jighead was getting bit. Caught more 3 pounders than a person should be allowed to with the big fish of the day at 4lbs 3ozs. Also caught a couple smallmouths, a limit of crappie, a few whites, a wiper, a catfish, and of course a drum.

Good job, what was the water temp? Any other boats?

It was pretty consistent high 50's to 60 in the outlet, mostly 58-60. The spot we were really catching them it was 51-52. There was one other boat fishing the outlet and one fishing the trees on the north end for crappie, never saw either of them catch a thing.
