pbrussell Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 If anyone's thinking about going to lacygne this weekend I'll be praying for you. I snagged a 8" shad today and that was the only bite I had!!! I'm willing to bet the wind will keep most sane people off the lake tomorrow. I know I'm not going. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 16, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 16, 2013 Peter was nice enough to invite me out to his secret pond Thursday afternoon. Wind was howling too hard to try to put a boat in so we walked the edge of the pond, which made things a little difficult because the water level was way down and pretty shallow along the edges. I watched Peter catch the first 3 while all I managed to do was snag a bluegill on a rattletrap. I was dragging a homemade blackberry colored brush jig along the dam when I felt a very light bite and my line started moved off very slowly. The cold water didn't deter the fish from pulling really well and the jig popped out as soon as I got my hand on her. Didn't measure her but looked like she'd just eaten a big bluegill or another bass with the fat belly. My first fish was 4.67 pounds. We fished around the pond and only caught a couple more before we got to the far end with a bunch of dead lily pads. I had a couple bites on a pit boss and caught a dink or two before I switched to my homemade black and blue chatterbait. Got a couple more dinks and missed a good bite when I stuck another good fish. Another fat, strong pulling fish that was probably in the 4-4.5 pound range. We made it back to our starting spot and I was fancasting the chatterbait off a point when I got another light bite that turned into a heavy, hard pulling fish. I was barely able to keep her out of some cover before she gave up and let me get my hands on her. My biggest of the day went 5.57 pounds. Fished for another hour or so but we both only caught a couple more small ones. It certainly wasn't fast fishing but the quality made it more than worth it 2 Quote

Jeremy Coalter Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Prairie Lee lake report I've fished Prairie Lee in Lees Summit three times over the past two weekends and it's been brutal, I only put one small bass in the boat. Water temp has been 50-53 so am I correct most bass should be in their winter pattern with an occasional visit to the shallows when it warms up? I've been trying to fish the bluffs and rock areas, mixing in some points with no luck. I've tried jigs, Carolina, spoons, drop shot, alabama, no such luck. While I'm still learning to use electronics I think I see fish schooled up and suspended but I can't get them to bite. Is my approach correct or is there another strategy I should be using? Thanks Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 While I havent been out lately, Id start looking for vegetation that hasnt died off yet. Then shallows with deep water close by, or baitfish balls. In the winter when vegetation dies off, bass will tend to relate more to rock and wood if not in deeper water around structure breaks. Or so Ive read. LOL Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 18, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 18, 2013 Those are some great looking fish, also like the look of your chatter bait. Thanks, it's a home made one that has become one of my go to baits for big fish since I started making them a few years ago. Thanks Bass should be relating to deeper water but are most likely still in relatively shallow water. I was at Olathe Lake on Friday for a few hours with water temps ranging from 45.6 to 50.2. The water was pretty stained but all my fish came from 3-8 feet of water, all but one of them was very near water 10' deep or deeper, oddly enough it was also in the coldest water I fished. It sounds to me like you're fishing the right areas, bass like vertical structure this time of year because they can quickly move out to deeper water or up shallower. I have no personal experience on Prairie Lee but if the water is stained to fairly clear I'd be fishing a finesse jig, shakyhead, jerkbait, wiggle wart, rattle trap and a double colorado bladed spinnerbait. Drag the jig and finesse jig around the deeper drop off areas that are close to shore. Parallel those shoreline drops with the jerkbait and fan cast it across points. I'd pull the wiggle wart across points and the top edge of drop offs. If there's water willow along the shoreline like there is in most lakes around here I'd parallel those weed edges if the water is at least 2' deep and fairly stained. Cast the spinnerbait to those weed edges and keep a slow, steady retrieve going. It's also a good option to toss at laydowns or docks. Quote

SuperFluke Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Bluebasser86 and I made an early morning trip to Wolf Creek yesterday. The weather was supposed to be nice most of the day, but of course about two hours after getting on the water the wind started howling out of the north and it was raining/sleeting/hailing on us for the rest of the time out there. Sizzle, the fog was way worse than when they wouldn't let us out there a few weeks ago. The did end up paging us off the water eventually as the wind and fog were getting pretty bad. As for the fishing, we started by the hot water discharge where there was some nice 75 degree water. Bluebasser86 outfished me from the back of the boat by the outlet. He caught three nice largemouth on fluke, tube, spinnerbait. I got desperate and threw the ned rig and caught a drum, channel cat and a small LM. Moved downlake and started getting into the smallmouth pretty good. I'd say we put close to 20 in the boat before we left on tubes and jerkbaits. Thanks for the trip, Blue. It was a good time even with the way the weather turned out. Sorry, no pics from me due to the weather. Quote

I really like the looks of the 186's. I had my mind made up on another tin boat but now I'm not sure after seeing what I can get in glass for the same price. Looks like a nice ride! Should have put another 10-15 in the boat if I could have kept my jerkbait fish stuck instead of just poking them and losing them. We'll have to do it again sometime when the weather is supposed to be a little less iffy. Quote
pbrussell Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Gonna go to lacygne and freeze my butt off tomorrow. I'll let you know if any other crazies are out there. Hopefully I'll catch something that makes freezing worth it. Quote

It was really slow the day I caught that one that was almost 8 in March. Quote
