hobson232 Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 Thanks for the info. I am wanting to go to lake shawnee in Topeka. I thought I saw something about a boat permit requirement somewhere a while back in regards to that lake but I can’t remember. Didn’t know if it was like WyCo that way. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 11, 2019 Global Moderator Posted December 11, 2019 I was lonely out there Monday, thankfully the fish were keeping me company. Quote
hobson232 Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Nice fish!! I saw a crankbait. Is there a decent jerkbait bite out there too? Was out at lake shawnee last weekend and had 15 bass and 3 of those were about 15” (or just shy of that) on a jerkbait. Had a blast with the jerkbait and thinking about fishing la cygne this weekend. Nasty weather coming up, but the nastier the better out there is seems. Quote

There wasn't Monday, but it changes day to day out there. I had one bite that missed and one small one on a jerkbait out of lots of cast with one. Thought with the clouds and wind it would have been a good jerkbait bite but it wasn't happening for me. Quote
hobson232 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Thanks for the update. Sounds like a good couple days out there otherwise based on your reports. As long as it’s around 30 degrees or better, I’ll be out there. Kinda hope it stays nasty to avoid the bumper to bumper situation. Seems like the fishing is better on those days anyway in the winter. Cold with a low pressure system usually means good fishing out there. 1 Quote
hobson232 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Went out to La Cygne yesterday. Decent day on the water. I think I had about 13 lbs or so with my 4 best. Started out the day throwing a jerkbait. Missed a really nice one by the boat ramp on a pointer 100 first thing in the morning. Next, I went to a point by the hot water. Caught about 5 or 6 fish (two "keepers" of 15") on pointer 78, wobble head/trick worm, and a ned rig. As soon as picked up a ned rig, I caught two fish back to back. The first one was a 12 incher the next one was a 5 pounder. I ended up fishing a ned most of the day after that (not sure why I ever throw anything else). I did venture to the south side of the lake to get away from some of the traffic about mid day and to fish some less pressured water. I came away with two GIANT drum on a jerkbait and a ned rig. Water up there was about 44 degrees on that end. Finished the day on the bluff wall with about 15 more fish and 2 "keepers". Had to weed through a few dinks to get a decent bite. Caught a bunch of these: A few of these: And one of these: 1 Quote

hobson232 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 I should edit this post! I guess I was meaning the 15" traditional keeper length as if I had a bass pass. The only one that went 18" was the 5 pounder. The others three "keepers" were at least 15". Boy, I only wish. That would have been a heck of a day. Being able to count "15 inchers always makes a guy feel better about his total weight that day ?♂️ 1 Quote

I don't fish tournaments often and have never bought a bass pass so I don't ever think about that. In the spring I can usually get a limit of fish over 18" in a day out there, but they get scarce during the winter. 1 Quote
hobson232 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Yeah, I can probably count on one MAYBE two fingers how many times I’ve gotten a legitimate 18” limit by myself out there. One was spring time, the other “maybe” that comes to mind was a late spring/early summer outing. I don’t fish too many tournaments either after I graduated college, but the 15” limit has become the great equalizer amongst my buddies and I when counting numbers and weights. I just didn’t adjust to my audience here ?. 18” is a tough nut to crack on a lot of our lakes. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 30, 2019 Global Moderator Posted December 30, 2019 La Cygne is a muddy mess today ? Quote

Were the stacks back on today? There was smoke coming out of the stack but the outlet was only 44*, warmest I saw was 46 something by the ramp. Caught 5, had 6 for sure bites, biggest was 3.54lbs. Basically outlet across to the north park ramp up the river is an inch or two of visibility and 44* or less. 1 Quote
hobson232 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Nice work! I had one that I think was a bite and that was in the marina cove which was the warmest and clearest I found. It looked like maybe a mud line was creepeing around the corner when I left so I’m sure the marina was a little dirtier today. Stacks were not running at all yesterday and the outlet was the coldest part I fished. Quote
pauldconyers Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 A hair off topic but being that it is "local" to us I had a random question for you guys that I thought I would ask here. Don't have any pressing needs for any work now but I was curious if there is a quality reel/rod repair and maintenance place or guy around here anyone recommends? Figured it better to ask now versus waiting until I need the services of someone! Quote

If it's anything beyond what I can do myself, I send it to DVT. We get a discount too since he's a site sponsor. Quote

I was just curious if anyone had a guy locally if you needed something done ASAP or if it was something fairly simple that did not warrant mailing something off and all that but you just weren't comfortable doing it yourself. I know he has a guy that repairs rods, not sure about reels. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 7, 2020 Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2020 Got on the board for 2020. Ice around a lot of the edge of the pond but saw several fish spook off the bank while I was walking around and even saw a couple turtles crawling around on the bottom under the ice. Really slowly working a 65 pointer tricked a few. 2 Quote
Drew03cmc Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 @Bluebasser86 I have to learn your trick for bank jerkin in winter. You seem to do quite well with it and I, well, don't. 1 Quote

Swan was tough Thursday. 8 hours for 6 bites, landed 5 for 17.88 total. 3 legit keepers, 2 bass pass fish. 1 Quote
