Fished Mound City for a few hours this morning. Slammer was good for awhile, bladed jig bite was pretty good over what grass I could find which was way more sparse than in past years, and that was about it. No flipping bite to speak of, just very randomly catch one here or there, maybe 5 or 6 total and only 1 off wood. No big ones but lots of good quality fish.

I'm seeing a lack of vegetation in a lot of smaller impoundments I'm on as compared to last year. I think it may have something to do with the recurrent high water.

I've been fishing an hour here and there at smaller, city and neighborhood lakes around SKC. They're loving the small poppers around vegetation and flipping baits along wood cover. Weedlines aren't as pronounced so many folks are missing them, but if you know the water, just beneath the surface, you can luck into some killer bites.

Hey everybody, it’s been a long time since I’ve checked in but I haven’t had time to go fishing much lately. I did get out to Shawnee twice in the past few weeks though and it’s been kind of slow both times. But what I did catch came right off of weed patches and the best way I found to catch them was a buzz frog drug right across the weeds

New to this. First timer. I am in the Baldwin City area. Am looking for near by bodies of water suitable for 'Bank Fishing"

Recently sold my big boat & looking for a smaller one so for now stuck on the bank. Any suggestions will be appreciated

I was just wondering how Shawnee was doing now that I'm 30 minutes closer to it. I know the pleasure boat traffic has been bad out there this summer with all the big lakes closed down.

Douglas County has lots of bank access and fish usually are very willing to bite, but size is lacking a bit. Spring Creek/Baldwin City Lake is kind of tough to fish from the bank but it's close by too as well as a couple walk in fishing ponds.

Yeah there has been a bunch of jet skis and ski boats but the couple times I’ve been out it hasn’t been too terrible in terms of them going back and forth right next to you

La Cygne gave me the first skunk of 2019 today.

Assuming the cold front turned the fish off.

Can't completely blame La Cygne. I blew the 2 big bites today.

had one nice fish on until the boat. She spit the shakyhead at me when i tried to land it.

There are still quality fish there, just could not catch them today.

Wabaunsee beat me badly Monday. I didn't catch 15 fish and they were tiny, mostly under a pound. Long drive to catch less and smaller fish than I could have caught at about any local lake.

Miami was fun Thursday evening. Almost 16 pounds for a our biggest 5. Catfish were tormenting us too. If a guy wanted to catch them, I'm sure you could really tear them up now. Saw several large paddlefish feeding and jumping too.

Went to Leavenworth State Lake today. Wasn't much fun. Water was very stained for that lake and the bites I was getting were very small. I probably caught around 20 and not a single one would have gone 1.5 pounds. Caught them flipping water willows, on a bladed jig, shakyhead, wacky rig, flipping laydowns, and a squarebill. Only excitement was a little flathead.

Fished Olathe this morning with high hopes with the clouds and rain, it did not pan out. They were nowhere and biting nothing, basically it was a surprise every time I got bit. This is 2/3 of the fish I caught in 3 hours of fishing in seemingly perfect conditions.

The small local lakes have been finicky this year. I am not sure if it is the weather or increased fishing pressure from the closed reservoirs.

Even though It has been a decent year, I have had to get creative to catch fish consistently.

Gardner kicked out another good one for me tonight in our Thursday night tournament. We won with 11.77 pounds and this was big bass at 4.41 pounds, my first bite of the night and a prime example of how camera angle can make a fish look much larger than it actually is.

Good point about the camera angle.  From the pic that fish appears to be as big as some upper 5s and lower 6 lb'ers that I have caught.

Went to Melvern twice this weekend. Things are looking really promising for the future out there. Short trip Sunday, Monday was really good, haven't got the video put together from it yet but my biggest 5 were in the 16-17 pound range, none of them were largemouth.

Has anyone been to Hillsdale recently? Am thinking about taking my daughter in Law out there Thursday as I can rent a boat there. Any information will be appreciated.

Looks like it's supposed to be approximately 5.5' high still by Thursday and scheduled to be releasing 1000cfs. So you'll be dealing with a lake that is high but dropping slowly.

I've seen some good reports for crappie but haven't heard any reports about anything else from Hillsdale. I'm getting antsy to get out there and fish it. I'm hoping the bass spawned and benefited there as much as they seem to have at Melvern.
