Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 18, 2018 Global Moderator Posted April 18, 2018 Melvern is starting to wake up a little bit. Water temps were 45-50, so still a few degrees away from where it needs to be for the smallmouth to get more active in the shallows.  3 Quote
SuperVehicle001 Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 Water temp was 49F. Rented a boat instead of using my kayak. Started shallow with a custom painted Spro Little John. Switched to an Alabama rig. Moved spots to near the spillway. Threw a spro rock crawler. Switched back to an a-rig. Then a chatterbait then back to a-rig. Â Visual summary of my first time at Jacomo. Hoping to learn and get better at bass fishing. Also the most water I have ever covered in my life. I usually kayak fish outside the Lee's Summit area. Â I did more graphing at other spots but I swapped between fishing and graphing at idle. That stretch at the dam I just idled over and watched the graph. Â The graph on the boat is a Lowrance Hook 3 which isn't as good as the one I have on my kayak but I was happy to have something to tell me depth and temp. Â I found nothing of note on that stretch I graphed. Even a brush pile looked kinda empty. 1 Quote

I might have to adopt a similar recording scheme. Quote

The Hook-3 unit didn't have GPS on it so I couldn't get an actual trip record on it but I think I did a good in MS Paint lol. I was really hoping the rip-rap and bluff walls where holding heat. I wanted to try a jerkbait but my cranking rod went down with a nasty backlash as I was trying to free my rock crawler from a tree. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 18, 2018 Global Moderator Posted April 18, 2018 You covered lots of good water that has been productive for me in the past. 1 Quote
matthew3 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Just went to some local ponds yesterday. The males were cruising around bluegill beds and were inches to the bank. I caught several on a creature bait. Looking like they should start bedding fairly soon if the weather holds. Quote

Fir3hawk Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Hey guys,  Took tomorrow off to do some fishing. I've been pretty busy with a basement remodel so I've only been out about once since December (mid-march) and it was more testing out a few boat upgrades than fishing. Currently trying to figure out a plan of a attack tomorrow and hoping to catch a few. Any recommendations on which lake and what fish I should target?  I'm located in Lenexa and hoping to go somewhere within a hour of home. Hilsdale - Closest major lake. Seems like people have mentioned the bite is pretty slow and I'd mostly be targeting Crappie. Gardner - A bit closer than Hillsdale but since I have the day off I don't mind traveling a little bit. How is the bass bite here lately? Are they starting to come out shallow? Clinton - Only fished here once on a trip with Brian. Seems like the fishing report is fair for whites and crappie. Pomona - Never been. Fishing report indicates Crappie and White Bass bite is decent but slow LMB bite. Wolf Creek - Never been. A bit further than I'd like to drive but fishing report looks good.  I'm hoping to get out once more over the weekend and I'll probably go to Gardner or Hilsdale that time. Quote

I'd vote none of the above and go to Douglas or Lone Star. Lake Shawnee is probably about the same drive as Wolf and will be the best bite anywhere close right now if I were putting money on it. La Cygne should be going good right now too. Gardner has been tough and it's getting lots of pressure like always. Quote
TinBoatBassin Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Rolled down to BC today hoping to find some active fish, wasn't disappointed. Fished a jerk all day and varied the cadence as the day warmed. Lots of bass off the bank with a few up close locked on beds. Water 58-61  6 Quote
conorsixtakc Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 here’s proof that multiple keepers exist in smithville. all it took was 3 to win our company fishoff, most of everybody else went the crappie route thinking it would make for a heavier sack. we’ll be back next weekend for corporate challenge but will need to do better to beat the field. 4 Quote

I've heard that it's been doing pretty well. Too far and too expensive for me to make the drive, but glad it's pulling a few people away from some of the lakes I like to fish  1 Quote

SuperFluke Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Dwight and I will be prefishing Smithville on Thursday, and I heard @RangerDanger was fishing it this year too. Maybe this year will be perfect timing. 1 Quote
BTSyndrome Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Does anyone know the group that fishes tournaments at the small lakes like Eureka? They were at Sedan yesterday (4-28).... I would just like a list of lakes and dates they use so I can avoid them like the plague. I purposely fish during the week but on the random chance I have to go on a Saturday I would like to save my time driving just to run into them and have (choose) to drive onto somewhere else.  But really, 8+ boats on a 70 acre lake, sure that sounds like fun. lol... To each their own.    Quote

It can produce some nice sized fish, but not much for numbers. I catch very few small fish there. Most are 15 inches or larger. Quote

SuperVehicle001 Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Got beat up at Jacomo Friday. I was on the water on my kayak from 10-4 and I got a one pounder buck bass on a Megabass Ito Vision 110. Fished the main point leading into the creek arm as well as the secondary point. Not the best of days. Â I had better numbers luck at Legacy Park in Lee's Summit Saturday. Tiny 22 acre "lake" behind a community center. Despite being in Lee's Summit my friend and I where the only ones really fishing it aside from the occasional bucket fisherman. Caught 5 fish ranging from a pound to 2 pounds 12 ounces. An overall good day. I am really fixated on figuring out Jacomo lol. Quote
TinBoatBassin Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 We headed over to Missouri last weekend looking for some big bass. Found a few decent fish but nothing over 4.6 We did run into some giant wipers. Got a 6.5, 7.5, and a 9.89 Really fun weekend, most fish were once again caught on jerks.    5 Quote
Russ E Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Fished Shawnee today for the first time. water temp was 65 degrees. started jerkbaiting shallow points and bays. all I caught were small males and white bass. found a few bigger fish in 10-15 ft. off of a couple steep banks. only thing they would bite was a trick worm on a shakyhead. nothing big. a half dozen in the 1.5 to 2.5 lb range. not too bad for a first trip. 1 Quote

Any smallmouth?   Hillsdale has been really good lately, numbers and size. We only had 4 boats Thursday night, but had 2 high 15lb bags caught in 2.5 hours with 4 legit keepers, 1 over 3, 1 over 4, and 2 over 5, and 2 more really close. I think maybe all the work that has been going into stocking the lake might bee showing some signs of paying off. The fish are in full spawn mode.  1 Quote

Russ E Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 fished Smithville hard for 6 hours today. caught 12 bass total. No drum. one of the few trips there, that I caught more bass than drum. caught 2 in the 14-15 inch range in crows creek on a spinnerbait. caught 8 in the 13-17 inch range in camp branch on a squarebill and a Pit boss caught this 2.5 pound and 4.5 pound bass in the Trimble area on a Pit boss. all fish were extremely shallow. 3 Quote
joefish Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Crappie fishing at Clinton and this 3# bass wanted my little crappie jig... caught 3 more bass 13-14 inch range. Â 3 Quote
