Is the fishing in SMP worth getting the permits for? Speaking of permits what about Wyandotte County Lake? Is it worth the $100 I'd have to spend to fish on my kayak? $100.00 is pretty high. As a wyco resident it cost me $50.00 with a boat. I will say I caught more bass over 4lbs at wyco last year, than all other lakes combined. Including a 21 inch smallmouth. Quote

Water temperature ranged between 39.5 and 41.5 degrees. I caught this 5 lb 14 oz female in 40 degree water on a finesse jig. I have a more detailed write-up in the Fishing Reports forum. Nice Smithville bass. That lake can be a lot of fun in the spring. It kicks my butt in summer. Without the weeds, I have trouble there when the water heats up. Quote

I really like WYCO, but unless you're going to fish it a whole bunch, it's not worth it. Jacomo is the lake I'd focus on if you're wanting to buy a permit for a lake. Prairie Lee is included with that permit and is another pretty decent lake. It gets you on Blue Springs too but I've never fished it an heard it's tough. Jacomo is pretty big. Does it have a boat speed restriction? I felt like I was going to die when I fished La Cygne. I was getting waked every 10 minutes. Quote

It's a very popular kayak fishing lake and sailing lake. Quote
hooks21 Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Fished at Wyandotte yesterday, caught a whole bunch of dinks at the dam on a drop shot. In my excitement to get out fishing, I completely blew by the “No Fishing from the Dam” sign. A nice guy across the way pointed it out to me. Anyone know why that is? Quote
TinBoatBassin Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 We hit up wolf today hoping for the water to be warm enough for the smallies to start pushing up on the southern end...nope only 49. Mid lake was loaded up with mainly whites thinking about the spawn, sat over a school and put an endless dent in the giant school with a drop shot. The northern end was good offshore with tons of monster crappie with some chunky greens in the mix. Discharge was a joke, feel bad for those that spent their day there. 2 Quote
MelvernJM Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 I started my day in the outlet and caught some whites and a few largemouth. I found some crappie also. I went to the south side and did not have any luck. Sounds like I should have tried mid lake. I need to learn where to start my searches for more fish. I have the graphs to search just don’t know where to start on a lake besides the obvious. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 13, 2018 Global Moderator Posted March 13, 2018 We went to Wolf today and wore them out. Buddy caught a 5.20lb walleye, tons of whites, some wipers, several big drum, a smallmouth, and lots of largemouth. 1 Quote

The best publicly available map can be found here for free: https://www.genesismaps.com/SocialMap Its created by users uploading their sonar logs. I have found these maps to be better in accuracy than navionics and at this point the coverage is so good that most people could probably save their money and skip buying a navionics card. The only catch is you have to be running lowrance to download it and add it to your chartplotter. The social map will let anyone view all of the lake data without signing up. 3 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 13, 2018 Global Moderator Posted March 13, 2018 Now is a good time to be on Wolf to see a lot of structure you couldn't normally with the lake being so low. The bass like to be shallow out there, regardless of season and weather. 1 Quote

Up until last year the eastern side of the dam was off limits to boats and only available for bank anglers. Still not sure why it changed. with the dam being the northern side of the lake, it warms first. fish seem to stack up there in the spring. By making the dam off limits from shore, they removed a good portion of the accessible fishing for bank anglers. 1 Quote
tyson2925 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Anyone have a LaCygne report? Water temps, etc. thanks! Quote

JoCoJoKeR Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Thinking about hitting up Lone Star, DoCo, or Gardner this weekend. Has anyone been to any of these recently? And if so, how’s it been? Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2018 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2018 Big girls are starting to hit the banks in the smaller bodies of water with this warm front. Saw several big ones sunning themselves yesterday and got one to eat. 5 Quote
TinBoatBassin Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Headed back to wolf today, started where we left them mid lake last weekend. Pretty even mix of white bass and crappie with a few drums mixed in. Most of the fish were caught off shore in 8 - 14 feet of water. The crappie had some big bellies. 1 Quote

The best bite we find out there is the top self of the channel on the west end, south side. Big Bite rattle tube, most anything with red flake. The water is typically a bit stained and I think that helps a bit. 2 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted March 25, 2018 Super User Posted March 25, 2018 I'm 30 miles north of kc. Today caught 50 crappie in 2 hrs bank fishing a large farm pond. They are not right on the banks but staging in prespawn areas. It should only get better if the weather stays on track 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 28, 2018 Global Moderator Posted March 28, 2018 Shawnee was pretty good Monday despite the terrible weather. 3 Quote
KCFinesse Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Fished miola on Saturday morning, and I think the goofy weather may have had attributed to the tough fishing. The fish we did catch were mostly shorts relating to the rock jetties. Water temps were around 48. -Jared Quote
