Fished a new lake on Friday that was WAY out in the sticks.  Tried flipping some jigs but it was to much of a pita with all of the submerged weeds.  Top water in the morning and evening with some wobblers in the noonday sun was the ticket.  I was pretty surprised that I had the lake to myself from sun up to sun down, never had that happen around the KC area.  Will be returning soon....PB territory:)  Capture.thumb.JPG.f10f31995d5aaff931bea4b4c5b922fe.JPG

;) Submerged weed beds. out in the sticks. nobody there. Good bass population.

I will throw a guess out there and say Leavenworth state fishing lake.

sometimes ramp can get tricky, but not a bad lake.

Pretty decent bank fishing lake. Several jetties. dam can produce good fish.

only downside is there can be a lot of trash around the shore. Some people are slobs.

Got to love it when they're eating the wobblers :)

Def not leavenworth although the one time I fished it was worth the short drive.

I had a few nice bass follow the wobblers to the boat before giving me the stink eye and turning away.  Maybe they will be more willing on Saturday/Sunday :)   The double buzzer was the best topwater lure, bringing the GoPro to grab some footage this weekend. Weather is looking stable with some rain on Monday so the setup is looking good.

not even a hint on the lake?

Tough day at the Dotte today. couldn't even get a follow the first 2 hours.

switched over to a mud minnow TRD. caught a half dozen small fish.

this one was the highlight of the day.

Anybody going to be out tomorrow? I took the day off due to a car show tomorrow night and may do some fishing in the morning. Was thinking Hillsdale or Gardner but open to other suggestions/input.

I hit up Olathe Lake last night, solid bite flipping plastics at the weed lines and wood.  Nothing giant but I won't turn down feisty #2.5-3 any day.  Best banks were moderate sloping.

Kinda winged today. Invited my dad late last night and he agreed to come. Ended up taking him to Hillsdale because it was his first time on my new boat so I wanted to show him what the 60hp Merc could do. By the time we got his permit and out to the lake it was 10:00am.

Figured my odds were better crappie fishing and I dont have much crappie gear. Used some Bink’s pro series spoons and was able to net a couple crappie in 2 hours. Unfortunately my dad never caught anything but he said he had a good time. This was the first time I’ve fished with him in probably 15 years!

neighbor and I hit the Dotte again today.

several smallies and largemouth fairly shallow on weed edges using ned rigs and wacky rigs.

nothing big again today.   A couple 2 pounders.

surface temp was 78 degrees.

schools of small bluegill are congregating in the coves.

hopefully if water cools a little, big Bass will follow.

I may have to get a Wyco permit again next year. I bought one two years ago when I got my first boat. $50 boat permit and like $30 fishing permit. Then I had boat troubles and never actually got a good days fishing in there.

It has been my most consistent lake this year. several fish over 3 lbs with 1/2 dozen in the 4 to 5 pound range.

this last 2 weeks has been tough for bigger fish. temp dropped 10 degrees in one week, this week it has come up 6 degrees again. the bigger fish seem to be in a funk.

permit cost sucks. I live in WYCO, so it is a little cheaper.  I paid around $100.00 to fish Smithville this year, counting the Missouri non resident license.

What’s the deal with boating in MO as a non resident. I assume I can take my KS boat there just would need to register in MO if I did most of my fishing there? Also I think I’d need a boating license. It seens you always have to be born before 84. You’d think they’d increase the year because I’ll be 30 next year but someone 34 doesnt need it. Sigh.

You have to have completed a boater's safety course to operate a boat in MO if you born before 84. I did mine online, it's pretty easy it seemed to me like. I was 16 when I got mine though, so that's been a long time ago, might have changed it by now.

Yeah that’s my point. I took the online course over 4 years ago and back then it was the same, only need it if born after 84. I never paid the fee though because I never drove a boat in MO. I think everyone should take the course to know the basic boating fundamentals just hate the idea that someone born in 85 has to pay a fee for something and someone born in 84 doesn't. Now if they did you need it if you are under 25 years old, I’d totally be on board with that.

Same as hunter safety. if you were born before a certain date, nearly every  state grandfathers you in.

I personally have taken both the hunter safety, and boating safety, which I think everyone should take.

I am old enough most states grandfather me in without them.

don't know about a fee. I was born a couple decades before 1984.

there is a fee everyone has to pay at Smithville for auto and boat. It is not a state fee. Clay county charges you that.

We headed back to the lake I scouted last week and the fishing was a little slower but we managed to put a few good ones in the boat.  The bass didn't seem that interested in the noisy topwater baits like the previous week but the frog bite seemed to be the ticket.  The best bass crushed a black spro.  I ended up breaking off two other frog fish which was my fault using the same leader after casting into the jungle.

I was fishing them in moderately clear open water, no slop or surface weeds, just lots and lots of laydowns.  Didn't experiment with straight braid to see if would slow the bite, just habit on my part I guess. Probably should have stepped up the test with all of the nicks from the timber.  I generally run leaders on everything with braid as the main.

Yeah, I fish frogs in some pretty clear water and always run straight braid and never seemed to slow the bite down.

Was gonna ask, do I need a permit for Smithville with a KS registered boat? I dont know that I’ll make it that way this year but I want to possibly hit the crappie spawn there next year.

Bite was good at Gardner tonight! Caught 3 in a little over 2 hours.

Yes. for boat and Truck. the only boat ramps are on Clay county controlled land.

You can buy a day pass at the gate to the ramps if they are occupied. otherwise you have to go to one of the marinas.

a yearly pass for a boat truck combo is around $75.00

I fished Perry last week. Nothing to report on the fishing, but a PSA for anyone that is planning on fishing out there anytime soon. I was the only truck in the lot at the state park ramp and there was only 2 others when I called it a day. I left my windows slightly cracked because it was hot out. When I got back, there were greasy forearm prints on the driver's side window and matching palm prints and finger prints on the inside of the window. Not sure if they were trying to force my window down or maybe fish the door open, but it made me real glad that I did my usual check to make sure they weren't open far enough for me to get my hands through the gap. Nothing was missing or disturbed that I could see, but just the fact someone either tried or just was looking in my truck had me hot for the whole drive home. Thought about driving my truck to work and seeing if they wanted to lift the prints, would have been really easy for them, but didn't bother since there wasn't really any crime committed.

that sucks.

I had a similar thing happen at Clinton state park this spring.

after a day of fishing I went to get my truck and noticed the dolly was down, the safety chains were unhooked, and my locking pin on the hitch was bent. This was on a brand new ranger trail trailer. I am glad I had a lock on the hitch or the trailer would have been gone.

Luckily the only thing damaged was the locking pin. I had to cut it off when i got home.
