Thanks for including mine in the mix?

Slept in on Saturday and by the time we made it to Wolf it was PACKED!  Joined the boat show in the discharge for a minute and picked up a decent smallie then nada.  Left for less pressured water, overall slow day for us, biggest bass went just over 3.5

Went to Shawnee Lake today and bagged a couple trout.  South boat ramp was iced over.

Need some help/advice on registering my boat trailer in KS?  I have moved from TX and have already taken care of the boat transfer w KDWPT.  My question is do I need to register the trailer and do you need a license plate in KS?  In the past (5 years ago) I never had a plate on my trailer and was under the impression KS didn't require it but I am receiving different feedback from the KS website....   Can anyone clear this up for me?  Thanks!

If your boat and trailer are under 2k pounds you don't need a tag. I have a under2k tag on mine and I'm pretty sure it's over but the last owner never tagged it so the title is still in the previous owner before hims name or I would tag it.

I didn't. We considered it because we thought our oldest might have fun, but it's a long drive and it hasn't been very good the last several years.

I was supposed to, but alas, fishing got in the way. My clients on Saturday told me it was the worst one they've been to in a while. So I don't feel too bad about not making that drive.

Does anyone here fish Critzer Lake by Mound City?  Just curious if anyone could offer any insight and if its a good cold water lake?  Thanks!

@Thefrog22 fished it at the beginning of October I think. He's about the only one in this group I can think of that's fished it recently(ish).

I fished it a few times last year since it's so close. Did well once but it sucked the other 2 times. It's pretty deep and clear, so it could be a good cold water lake, but I'd keep driving to Ft. Scott or Bone if I wanted to fish cold water.

No fish in Bone Creek or Cedar Creek.  Gravel roads last 3 miles on both.  Need to stay up north where all the good fishing is.  Gas is higher down here.  No place to eat at either lake.  Long drive to convenience stores.  Never any poop paper in restrooms.  Wind always blows down here.  Uh, anything else I can help you with?  :P

I've fished it a half dozen times and only one of those times did I do well. And that was a mid spring/prespawn kind of bite and had a pretty decent day throwing spring craw colored squarebill cranks. The other times...were crap! Lol

Anyone heading to wolf tomorrow? Thinking about taking my chances with getting called off for wind.

I'll be there first thing both days regardless.

Fished La Cygne Friday in the wind and cold. Water was cold, 38 at the ramp, 53 at the outlet, 44 at the point of the rock wall across from the outlet. Caught a few whites on a trap on the flats despite marking huge schools of fish. Fished for bass for a few hours, had 1 bite reeling in a shakyhead. Almost ripped my thumbnail off hooking up the boat in the morning, then I got finned by a little blue cat that I snagged at the outlet right before I left so my thumb was throbbing on one side and the other side of the same hand was burning from the fin, it was not a good day. I was off the water by noon.

We fished Wolf for a couple hours today before getting called off for wind.  Started out in the discharge and picked up a few decent lmb on hard baits.  It got a little crowded so we tried a cooler water area but with the wind howling it was a total pita to fish so we went back to the warmer water.  Decided to switch it up and target wipers and I'm glad we did as we found a nice school and worked them over.  We had quite a few double headers.  All in all decent day considering the conditions.

I might as well echo this report because it was the same for us. White Bass and Wipers everywhere. Didn't have one green or brown one after about 10:00, they all came way early. Had a group of 4 from Wichita split between two boats and everyone had a blast. The wind was brutal. Thankful for my xi5 but that wind took it out of me today. The guys at the guard station gave us a gift today by letting us fish til 11.

Here is our “Day on the lake” report for Tues. the 31st.

This was our first trip of the year and the very first time we have ever been to CC lake.

We only fish for bass unless a crappie or some other stupid fish gets in the way.

(And we don’t consider channel fish since they don’t have scales!!) haha

Late start and in no hurry to get on the water.... since the air was still colder early in the morning. By the time we arrived around 9:15 it appeared everyone that was going to be fishing today was already here. (about 11 other boats minus the one that put in, couldn’t get started, and ended up leaving.) Guard shack said there was 11 the day before also.

Started the day heading up toward the warm water outlet. Mainly to see how many boats wanted to be in the same small space and then surprised that there was only 3. The end of the jetty was around 53* to 55* and warming heading in. Stopped for just a few min to throw a few traps and cranks.

I was just not comfortable here. My wheelhouse is dirty, shallow water, with some sort of structure. The water at the outlet had about 8+feet of visibility, was deeper then what I like to fish, and even if fish are biting in a spot I still prefer to find an area away from others. So we set out to find exactly that.

Headed North towards the bridge, hugging the left bank to avoid the eagles that were hanging out, thinking the water would be more to my liking. Made it to the bridge to find 1-2’ visibility. :Copy_of_icon_thumleft: Trees that started in about 1 ½’ to 2’ and extended all the way out into the lake to around 10 or so feet. :Copy_of_icon_thumleft: The water here was 47 deg. and an added bonus of no other boats.:Copy_of_icon_thumleft:

Starting shallow and working our way out: first bass came in 4 ½ feet, Soon after I picked up three more in a 50yd stretch. All four were just shy of 2lbs.

ry=480

We kept slowly moving farther out fishing deeper to 7’-9’ with no more fish.

We now had our pattern set for the rest of the day. From this point on we run and gunned tree lines coming off the bank but only fishing the 3’ to 6’ range. Every place we stopped we picked up at least one if not two or more fish.

Other than my dad’s single rattletrap fish all of the bass were caught on a 3/8oz jig…

ry=480

He caught the biggest that went  3.69 lbs

ry=480

Overall we had a good day.  If I was to change anything it would have been to just show up earlier to get those extra 2 hours that we missed. Oh… and it would have been nice to know beforehand that there is good size rocks "on top" of the boat ramp, so I would not have accidentally taken a ¼”x 3” chunk out of the skeg. :censored:

I would also like to thank Ondrejka for kindly answering the few questions I had when researching for this trip.

Thank You.

Speaking of Coffee County me and a buddy want to head there Sunday. We've never been and I don't even know what you need to get on the lake besides a life jacket or if they are even open on Sundays. I've seen enough of the fishing reports on here to have a good idea of what to do so really any help relating to how you get your boat on the water without getting kicked off would be much appreciated.

You need a life jacket and winds less than 20mph. Get there at 7 and sign in. Go get in line and play follow the leader with the rest of the crowd.
