2 pounds out of the money. 1st and 2nd both went to guides on the lake and 10th was a guide and Elite pro so we didn't do bad. Lots of guys without limits and it wasn't looking good for is there untilChris went on a tear and caught 3 keepers between 1 and 1:30. We just needed a kicker. All out keepers were on C&C baits though so that was pretty cool .

Nice!

The Mondo Tackle tournament once again was very well ran. Hats off to Raymond and his team for making everything run smooth. There isn't a better shop in town for buying your bass stuff than Mondo Tackle.   I look forward to fishing it again next year.

I feel pretty good about just keeping close to those names on LOZ.

Wolf was a little slow today but I did catch one 19.25", an 18" and a 17.5". The biggest two came on a tube 7'-10' deep on riprap. The third came on the Ned out of 1-2 feet of water near some dead weeds on a flat. Other than those two baits, I caught a few on two jerkbaits: a Helsinki shad Husky Rap and a chrome- green back McStick. Hooked a few on an old crawfish-colored Poes 300 but could not get them in the boat. Time for new hooks.

Spent the week visiting my parents in Sabetha, KS (about an hour north of Topeka). Fished Pony Creek Lake on black friday. It's a 200acre CFAP lake in Sabetha. Water was pretty clear, around 7-8ft visibility. Surface temp was about 49.

Threw a ned rig on some rocky points by the dam for the first hour with no luck. Then moved to the upper end of the lake and found the shad on a flat in about 6ft of water. Caught a few on a squarebill and spinnerbaits, then decided to slow down and fish a weightless fluke. The fluke was a good choice. Ended up catching about a dozen fish with the fluke, biggest being right at 4lbs. Here are a couple pics.

Also, has anyone ever seen markings like the ones on the fish in the first pic? Wasn't sure if this was caused by an injury, or maybe a genetic/birth defect. I've seen small black splotches on bass before, but never to this extent. Fish seemed healthy otherwise. Just wondered if any of you had some insight on this. Regardless, it was a good day. Hope everyone had a good thanksgiving.

That's completely normal, and actually supposed to be a sign of a healthy body of water. It's most prevalent when the water is colder.

Glad to hear that. It's a neat little lake, so I'm glad it's nothing to be concerned about. Thanks for the info.

I really like that lake, it seems to fish bigger than its size and can have a pretty good spinnerbait bite.

Very true. I was raised in Sabetha and remember when the lake opened in 95. It's been a dedicated fishing lake and has been managed pretty well. With the water clarity and a good amount of rocky structure, I'd really like to see if it could support a smallmouth population. I'd be making a lot more trips home to "visit my parents" if that were the case!

Just wanted to let you guys know the Fishmas Exchange is happening again this year if you're interested. I do it every year and it's always a good time and I've got some interesting gifts from around the country (even a custom built rod last year). The thread is a pinned post at the very top of the General Fishing forum. Make sure to follow the directions to participate.

Wolf doesn't suck. Three green ones over 18 and two brown ones over 18. If you're friends with me on Facebook, you saw the big one that was..."passing" a Ned head when we caught it, and had a giant shad down its throat. Couldn't get that one to lay flat on the bump for the life of me. Fattest fish I've seen in a while. Green at the outlet, brown everywhere else. 15181598_10101016428441875_5247426367510616093_n.jpg15193636_10101016428656445_8697723329752409853_n.jpg15179085_10101016428461835_2167450760155400039_n.jpg15134760_10101016428671415_1268872989559859013_n.jpg

Grand Lake in Oklahoma is loaded with bass with those kinds of markings.  I think we all have seen how healthy that fishery is the last few years!

I haven't ever fished at Wolf. Is there any good places that I should try when I go out this weekend? Or any tips on what to throw?

Step 1: throw at rocks.

Step 2: set the hook.

LOL!!!  Yeah, Wolf can be unreal this time of year.  My first ever cast there resulted in a 3 1/2 pound smallie on a gold Rattletrap ripped through the weeds.

Is the Dam good at Wolf?

It's like the dam at Melvern, it always has them, but only 1 way to find out if they're good ones or not. Pretty much anywhere with rocks out there holds them, but there's lots of rocks out there and no way to know where they are other than fishing them.

Odd day at Wolf today. Started out with the first 45 minutes on a pretty good jerkbait and trap bite lakeside. Then it died. I mean nothing- not even the Ned could buy a strike. After more than an hour without a bite, I broke down and went to the outlet. I caught several greens and one stout brown on the Ned in the outlet by absolutely deadsticking it. Then, as the afternoon progressed and the wind died down a little bit, I went back out lakeside and started catching them pretty good on a jerkbait, Ned, and tube. But the best pattern was running a mag wart parallel to the riprap in about 8-11 FOW. Bad news is that I lost my last pre-Rapala Tennessee Shad mag wart. WT was 72 in the outlet and the lowest temp I saw was 49.2 at the dam.
