For any of you Kansas City folks just wanted to let you know that I was at wal-mart and they had those $90 Skeet Reese rods on sale for $35.  Pretty good rod too, I love them.

Got another round of rain today :annoyed1:, Going to hit Smithville in the morning to see if there are any fish that did not get washed out of the lake.

Hey guys a budy and I are l are looking to take a weekend trip the weekend before Memorial Day to bass fish.

i would prefer to keep it under 3 hours from kc and would probably choose quantity over quality if I had to choose.

where do you recommend?

Bourban County State Lake probably the easiest lake out there to put 100 fish in the boat. Last time I was there by myself I had 100 in 4 hours with a 5lb 9oz fish being the biggest, but that was the only one over 18".

Wilson County State Lake would be my pick for numbers if the water comes down, which it should be if the rain slows down.

Melvern is obviously a good option too, but it's tough if the water is still up.

Was kind of wanting to hit a bigger lake with a cool cabin/resort to stay at to get a way for the weekend along with some good fishing, where do you recommend out of the following?

Grand lake

lake of the ozarks

beaver

stockton

table Rock

It would be really easy to go to any of those lakes and not catch a single fish if it's tough. Add into that the traffic from big boats you'll have by then, it's going to be rough getting around past about 10AM if you're lucky. Stockton would probably be your best bet to avoid some of that and still have a shot to catch a bunch of fish, but they can shut down there and send you home with a goose egg just as easy as the rest of those.

If you're wanting numbers and a bigger lake, I'd go to Milford. The variety out there is a lot of fun too, but that wind, just hope it's not blowing.

You could stay at Wyatt Earp Inn in Lebo and have a 10 minute drive to Melvern or 20 minute drive to Wolf, along with a few smaller lakes in the area.

You're preaching to the choir bub! Lol

But Rome wasn't built in a day...can only do so much at a time. Glued some plastic clips on gunwale today so I can run the ducer cord to the depthfinder unit without having cord laying everywhere. Then I gotta get an aft light and figure out why port and starboard lights aren't working. Plus I wanna put some of those strip lights on it too (think I'm gonna go with UV/black lights...for night fishing with fluorescent line).

It'll be the clear/blue fluorescent line that's glowing! Ever fished at night that way? It's a whole otheworld bub!

I like it to be dark as possible when I'm night fishing and just let my eyes adjust. I'm not fishing any slack line techniques at night so I can feel them just fine when they bite. I've heard it's cool watching your line glow like a fluorescent rope though.

It's still dark with black lights, you can just see not only your line but also any lure that has fluorescent colors. I've still got pretty good vision but even on the darkest of nights it's still hard to see where you're casting. Moving lures like buzzbaits etc don't need to be "seen" or felt on slack line but sometimes a slower and more slack line type of presentation is needed and sometimes you can get away with non-slack line ones. It's just an option if needed...and with black lights I could add some black light posters and a disco ball and be all pimped out! Lol

Fished Wolf Creek from 9-2 today. The 10mph North wind predicted felt like 25mph today, holy cow! Quality of brown fish was substantial from last Friday but quantity was down. Solid fish were not right on rocks, out in 6-10 ft. Only fished south end of lake. There were 10 boats on lake when I arrived. Water temps were 70-72.

Fished Smithville yesterday and went to the Crows creek arm for most of the 9 hours I was there.   Fishing for crappie and bass as I thought fishing would be slow so I thought I would just fish for what I thought would be there.   I caught some bass with square bills in the flats in the backs of coves but honestly I caught more channel catfish, they were going crazy.  I did catch some crappie on blue and char. slabbusters with a roadrunner head, it had to be blue and char as they would not touch anything else.  I had minnows also and caught 2 fish the entire time on them, jigs were a lot better.

Fished La Cygne with my dad on Friday. It wasn't as good as last week, but I still managed to catch a small limit on a variety of baits. It was tough for my dad but he did catch a half dozen or so.

Advantage and I had a pretty good day at Wolf on Saturday.  Started real slow and thought we were going to get kicked off for sure. Once figured out what they'd eat it was non stop.  Quality was good and the wipers came out to play.  Only caught one LM.  I proved they'll eat a bull herring.

If you're ever hurting for cash, that same fish'll eat a speed shad for $60 less :dancing-baby::Pistols2:

I'm well over 100 fish on my BS and have no intentions of losing it anytime soon, so it's been really cost effective. That's a lot of Speed Shads and probably jig heads too. I went through 4 of the 5 in the pack to catch a dozen fish at La Cygne Friday. Short strikes aren't a problem with a BS like they can be with a Speed Shad.

Neither one really replaces the other. You can't burn a Speed Shad like you can a BS, and you can't slow roll a BS like you can a Speed Shad.

They'll eat a ned rid too, but it ain't the same when they eat it.  if you've ever had a smallmouth come unglued on a BS you'll know what I'm talking about.

If a fish makes it to the boat, does it matter what it's caught on? Lol

Go back through the reports there the last year or so, not many where an Ivy BHW doesn't show up in pictures or get mentioned. It's just that bait they like out there though, lots of colors work. I've done well with the Funky Chicken, but fishing a pink bait scares a lot of people I think. Shimmer and Sexy Momma are both good too.

Every now and then, but I'm not much for the ned life because very few times it seems to draw the big bites that a swimbait will in clear water.

100% agree, best to be ready with both!

I couldn't get em to go for the BS even though Adam had a few go for the herring but I did get a few to go for the Buzzjet...fish that go for it really go for it!

You know now, I learned ya.  I'm pretty sure it's the chartreuse in the ivy they like, if you used a chartreuse trailer on a crappie they would eat it better than the straight crappie.

and your little soft plastic paddle tail isn't going to draw the "big bites" a bullshad or other big swimbaits are going to draw.  Wolf isn't really a good lake to compare since those fish all seem to be between 2 and 3.5lbs.

My little paddle tail put the biggest fish in the boat that day with doc throwing a bull shad in front, like Clayton said both have their place. Being able to locate them is more important. Size of fish > size of bait.
