it's $15 to send it in if you get the label from St. Croix and $20 for them to send it back, for as many rods as you can fit in a tube.

Going to send it in today or tomorrow. But it is $15 to print off a shipping label from St Croix's website, then you put a $20 check in with the rod(s) for the return shipping.

Micah and I worked out a deal. I'm going to send in his mojo and pay the $55 to replace it. I'll split the shipping with you. I can drop the rod off this afternoon.

New to the Forum:

Heading to Melvern in a couple weekends to tackle some of the smallies in the lake. What is the water temperatures looking like from the Dam down to mid lake? Seem to catch a lot of fish there but nothing really big. Any help would be appreciated. Going April 16th & 17th.

I had temps anywhere from 52-55 on Saturday. Closer to 55 in the creeks and 52-53 main lake. I'm sure it will be far warmer next weekend.

Wyandotte County Lake this afternoon, water temps were 56-57, super clear with a green tint.  Got a bunch of 1s and 2s, and several 3+.  Protected pockets and a red with dark back crankbaits were the deal.

Went to Miami Co in the 2 man boat today. Caught quite a few 2-3 lb'ers and biggest was 3lbs 9oz. Only 3 fish under 15". Curly leaf pond weed is already out of control and matting on the surface in large areas and either just at or an inch or so from the surface. My little Lowrance Elite 4 HDI that I mounted last night worked good...not that on a lake that shallow you really need a graph! lol

Oh, and lost one 5+ lb fish somehow. Just came unbuttoned somehow.

Gardner crappie fishing sucked this morning. Guessing the cold front drove them back off the banks. Last time I make that mistake.

Saw several crappie fishermen at Miami Co but never really saw anyone catching any...never saw anyone catching anything at all except for me! lol

Did talk to an old timer crappie fishing from one of the piers who said someone caught a 16"/3+lb crappie there last week.

The truck is now up and running. Long story there...

Should be back on the water with my boat soon. Thankfully I have a buddy who lives on lake waukomis and have been fishing it a lot. We absolutely tore them up yesterday dragging jigs in 6-12 fow. Probably caught 20 fish a piece, he brought in a 5.

If I had access to that lake, I might never fish anywhere else.

He's lived there about a year and it has taken us some time to figure it out. The dock bite is pretty good in the summer. There's a lot of brush piles residents have planted but we've only found a couple. Thankfully he's putting some decent electronics on his boat. There's also a ton of shad (big shad at that) and there are always fish schooling under the bait balls.

It's a fun lake but fishes differently compared to a lot of lakes around here. Fish rarely get on the banks. Ledges and points seem to be the thing and it's quite a bit of fun consistently catching fish in water deeper than 3 feet :). 

 

Here's the big fish my buddy pulled up. My scale isn't functioning so didn't get a weight, but she was 5 anyway.

Went out to Melvern Sunday afternoon while the wind died down a little. I saw water temps up to 59 in the creeks and mostly 53-55 elsewhere. All the recent wind has stirred the algae up most places so the water was pretty stained. I was only able to find three spots where I could pull out more than 3 smallies and none where I could get 6+ like I've been able to do on some of my other trips this spring. Ended up with 30, 20 of those were smallmouth.  The biggest was 18" and 3.5 lbs. I caught three others that were 16-17".  Slow moving baits (tube, hula grub, Ned) were all that worked. Most were shallow but I did catch a few a little deeper today than I've seen in awhile-- probably 4 to 6 FOW.

I saw that picture of Travis and wondered if that's where he was at. 

 

Last time I fished it was this time of year and we really found the opposite. The fish were very near the shore to about the ends of the docks (although not actually on the docks), and very aggressive. Not sure exactly how many fish we caught, but I know my ribs were bruised from setting the hook on solid jig fish by the end of the day. No monsters then either, 4.5 pounds was the biggest. I also had a really nice trout on a 1/2oz flipping jig believe it or not.

Pretty similar pattern clayton, except they were off the docks further this time around. Anywhere from 20-50 ft off the front of the docks. It was a lot of fun.

On a side note, I smoked a few big trout on a jerkbait out there earlier this year. That was fun.

Trout will knock the snot out of a jerkbait. It's really fun if you're doing longer pauses because they pop your line tight so fast they can really catch you by surprise sometimes. I've heard there's lots of walleye in there but I haven't caught any. There was a big one, probably 6-7 pounds, dead on the dam though.

I am heading to milford at the end of the week for a weekend of catfishing and was thinking the i might try to go for some smallies while I am there. I was hoping that I could get a little help with a location that I might run into a few from the bank. Any help is appreciated.

Had a pretty solid weekend. First Lone Star guide trip of the year on Saturday. Didn't get into any big females due to the extreme cold temps we had the few nights prior (and 33 degrees launching at 6:30 that morning), but did get the guys on quite a few fish to keep them busy. Had them both throwing Wobblers for their first time (Ivy and Sexy Momma). They caught fish on Wobblers, spinnerbaits, and a jerkbait. Always love when clients ask where and how they can their hands on some BHWs.

Sunday, my EKB tournament was cancelled due to wind (LOL what wind), so I had the day off. First one since the beginning of Feb. Decided to get out with my old man. We started at Clinton and got warmed up with Wipers and Whites for a few hours, then bounced over to Lone Star around 5. We were into fish almost immediately. I had my dad throwing a black and blue Wobbler to start (his first time throwing it as well), and I was throwing an Ivy. He hooked the first and biggest fish of the evening, his biggest LMB in a very long time. He was super stoked and needless to say, I was too. In our first and only pass on the docks, we probably had close to 15 lbs. for our best five. It was an absolute blast. Decided to end the night on a good note, and then my dad proceeded to lock my keys in my truck at the ramp. Still worth it.

Dropped the boat off this morning to have the transom rebuilt and a quick once over on the motor before the Bash next week, can't freaking wait!!

I was there on a kayak...the weeds are going to be brutal out there soon.  I was really hoping to hook up on some crappie but all I had was some blue gills.

My first one had a white head. Then I hung it from a tree a month ago at LS and Bond was nice enough to donate an extra he had the same day out there, which happened to have a chart head. I dig it. And da fish do too.
