Hi guys, new to the site. I'm sure some of you have probably seen me at some point walking the banks of the local lakes out here with my backpack. Anyway, went out to Lake olathe yesterday with my new toy, the deeper fish finder, and couldn't even mark bait fish. I fished some drops and places I thought might have something fish go by, but came up empty after about 6 hours. I walked most of the side opposite of the boat ramp, and some of the boat ramp side. I tried every lure amd rig imaginable, both the "common" cold water set ups, and even some faster moving lures. Have any of you guys had luck out there yet? If so, where are the fish holding? I'm still looking for my first one of the year.

We went for a little while yesterday, mostly just to get Chris' boat in the water before the classic to check his new drain plug and confirm everthing was working properly.  The wipers were in their spot but were not eating.  I did snag up a arig on some braid and pulled up a bomber model A. I wouldn't go there now if you want to catch fish.

Went to Gardner Saturday with Adam W.  We caught 13 or so on jerkbaits.  Biggest was 3 lbs 2 oz, and we had 4 over 15 inches.  Last one good fish, the rest were dinks. It was pretty slow most of the day.  we went a good 2 hours before putting a fish in the boat.  Water temp was 41-42.   Did anyone chase trout at kill creek or SMP?

Kingston Lake?

Yes this was at Kingston. I fished it last fall for the first time and had pretty good luck so I figured I would give a good shot this spring and see what happens.

Not yet but there's a good chance I'll be at Kill Creek Wednesday after work.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I tried Oregon Trail yesterday with no luck. There was another guy there when I got there, and it didn't look like he was getting anything either. I am a carpenter and am currently working in Gardner. I'll give celebration park a shot tomorrow. Hopefully the cold front doesn't scare them back into hiding. Last week I was at Cedar Lake and had a big one strike about 2 feet from shore in about 8-12 inches of water hiding in the rocks. I forgot I had been snagged and didn't retie my knot and lost the fish and my chatterbate. So if you catch one there with a black and blue chatterbate in his mouth let me know :D.

Might as well replace that black and blue chatterbait with a C&C big head wobbler.

Long weekend of trips on Clinton Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Even popped over to Lone Star to duck out of the wind (with no bass gear). This Saturday though I'll finally get to take a break from guide trips on Clinton to get out to WC. The outdoor writer for the Wichita Eagle contacted me wanting to do an article on Smallmouth, so I'll be taking him out this upcoming weekend. I have Sunday off as well, so I think Conor and I may do Melvern or WC depending on weather. Then I'm booked solid through March until the second week of April (Lone Star and Melvern guide trips the first 2 weeks in April :vrolijk_26:). Keith and I are fishing EKB this year, so that starts as well. Then 5 days at LOZ for the Bash. THEN, by May I'll be able to breathe (maybe).

Looking forward to seeing everyone on April 5th though too! :cheer:

You going to miss the second tournament too? Unless we decide to leave later than we had planned, we'll be at LOZ Thursday night while everyone is at Olathe.

I just pulled a 70lb maxxum 5 speed off my boat and replaced it with a variable.  The 5 speed is for sale, pm me if interested.

I have the X3 variable speed.  So Far I like it.  Just installed it a couple months ago, so haven't really stood the test of time, but the battery life seems way better and Variable speed is really nice.

The difference of battery life between a variable speed and 5 speed is night and day. The adjustments between 4 and 5 are spaced way too far apart. 5 speeds should basically be obsolete at this point.

If you want to throw a back seater out of the boat put it on 5 and don't tell them.

Lol, my mistake.

Motor guide is a good trolling motor and like all others, they have their value ones and their top of the line ones. Ran motor guide for many a years and put a beating on them in hydrilla and stump filled bone creek and it just kept on running.

So every year the Special Olympics of Kansas puts on a Crappie tournament at Clinton to benefit SOKS. Last year, my dad and I fished it and placed 4th out of 28 boats. This year, SOKS set it up to where each team can raise money on top of each team's entry fees to benefit the organization. My dad and I have our tournament team page set up for donations, so you can help to reach our fundraising goal of $750. We're already over $200. Just wanted to get the link to you guys in case you would like to donate to a great cause! Thanks doodz.

The first TM I bought was a MK and it was junk.  When I got my next motor, MG was the only one to make a transom mount foot controlled motor and I bought it reluctantly, But I put it through hell and it never gave me problems.  Then, when I was looking to replace the one on my nitro I only had 600-700 in the budget, and based on the reviews I read at the time I decided to go with the MG.
