And because the lake was teeming with bald eagles, I did a lot more boat positioning for photos than fishing. I did get acquainted with my new Lakemaster card, though. Surface temperature was 44-47 depending on the area. One of the warmer areas had a bunch of gizzard shad flipping on the surface but I couldn't get anything going. Apparently, bass were on the menu: That's a great picture, good enough to tell its a crappie and not a bass ? 2 Quote

sdendy Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Joined a couple weeks ago at a suggestion from a friend. Enjoying reading archives as I move here from Alabama a couple years ago. So thanks for these 200 plus pages. Fished Lacygne yesterday caught total 11 including white bass. Caught 7 largemouths one over 5 and lost one I estimate over 8. All were caught in 2-3 feet up creek off of wood on lipless crankbaits. 3 Quote

We caught a couple dozen but we wouldn't have had a limit on a Thursday night. Probably 21 of them wouldn't have been even close to that 12" mark. I had one good one on the Sizzler, 2 on a BHW, the rest on the Ned. Did you find the shad? I went yesterday and they weren't blowing up like they were on Friday. I only caught 2 dinks. Quote

Unfortunately I was with my wife so I didn't get to catch any of them because there was no way for me to get them home and in the deep freeze without her knowing about it. I'm probably going to go back Thursday and try to get some then. Quote

Ondrejka Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Saturday's guide trip was a success, sending the happy clients home with plenty of Crappie filets and good memories. Great people and an A+ day on the water. I wanted to sneak out to Lone Star afterwards, but I couldn't in good conscience miss the KU game. Sunday my dad came out and I took him to Clinton. Fish were really scattered and the wind was irritating enough that we decided to bounce over to Lone Star around 10:30. Ran into Adam, caught a few green ones, and a really nice Crappie on a Buzzs 110 Sizzzzzzzzle. Not the live action I was expecting but was nice to be out with pops. No Ned fish yesterday 3 Quote

Reed over the weekend and fished with jigs, plastic craws, rattle traps, jerkbaits and didn't get a bite on any of them. Only way i was able to get a bite was with a 5 inch BP xps swimbait. anyone? and feel free to suggest your favorite late winter/early spring lures. I'd say you are pretty spot on with the bait selection. I moved to Lee's Summit late last summer and fished James A Reed several times in the first few months with very few bass to speak of. I fished most of the lakes as well. Not the greatest bass fishing spot in my opinion. Especially during the warm weather months when it's getting pounded. I did notice your profile said that Prairie Lea is your favorite lake. I have heard good things about it but have only been there once and I'm am usually boatless. I have fished what little bank access there is at Jacomo and had some decent outings. Not sure if you are in a boat or not and if you live near Lee's Summit but those 2 lakes are probably some of the better in the area from what I know. Quote

Ondrejka Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 DJ caught his 18" Black on a jerkbait for our first tourney last year at Lone Star. And I've caught countless others. Crappie love them a jerkbait around prespawn/spawn time. Obviously not my target species but man he smoked it. Quote

Bassin4Fun2 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Hey guys, I am planning on going fishing a few days this week for the first time this year. Can you help me with the bass patterns and any suggestions on best techniques / lures for this time of year. I am mainly going to fish at a large pond. From my research it should be prespawn and probably fish slow moving stuff such as jigs, senkos and jerkbaits. I apprecate any help. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted February 23, 2016 Super User Posted February 23, 2016 Yup. Ned and drop shot too. Quote
