If you can even understand anything he's saying to begin with.

So Wolf today....yeah. First boat in at 7:30. Already a stiff wind blowing out of the outlet, with lots of current coming with it. To make a long frustrating story short, we had about 5 dink largemouths and a massive drum before getting called off the lake at 9am because of the wind. We debated on waiting around with the hope the wind would shift and we would be able to get back out, it in attempt to salvage the day we decided to go to Melvern. Within an hour, and after an incredibly random decent green fish and several whites later, the front fully showed up and the wind picked up 10 more mph within thirty seconds and we headed in, over it. Nothing was making sense. Conor and I both snagged huge Buffalos too.

Not quite how I'd hoped the day would go.

2 weeks in a row now I've gotten called off Wolf due to the wind. Kind of expected it last week when they were calling for 13mph from the SW (23 when you follow the +10 rule for Wolf). Christmas Eve it was supposed to be 2mph from the west until 10AM, then it was supposed to get up to 6-9mph, very manageable. So it was white capping almost as soon as we got there and never let down until we got called off at 11AM. Never made it anywhere but the outlet. We were slamming some dinks on the clay banks with a Ned (easily over 30 fish off one spot but maybe 2 over 2 pounds). Chris had some TT fish and his big smallie of the day/morning at an A-rig. Really felt like we could have lit them up if we didn't get called off. I've seen it way worse on days they let us stay out there too.

That's how it was for us too. We were sitting at the dock like, yeah, we've fished in far worse out here. We even only had an hour and a half and feel like we could have done way better than the morning had already gone. The old guys said they call people off when it hits 20

It must have changed because it use to be sustained winds of  25 or more.

I have around $100 to spend at bass pro and I am looking for a new spinning rod. I would like it to be in the "all purpose" category if possible. Any ideas?

Scheels has some good stuff on sale.  Chigger craws and other Berkeley plastics are half price.  Shadow raps for $5. Lucky craft stuff is on sale.  Lots of others as well. Mostly plastics.

HB 999 for $750..If you're into that

Shimano Symetre. Great reel for $99.

Oops,  you want a rod not reel..  if you can add a few more $$ get a St Croix Mojo.

I believe their Extreme line of rods is on sale right now for $65 and are great rods for that price. Their Carbonlite rods are also very nice rods.

The 7' Medium/Fast Extreme would be a decent all around rod.

Spend the extra 20 and get a Croix. Mojo Bass 6' 8" MXF or 7' M. You won't regret it. I have 3 now.

Had a Carbonlite casting rod when they first came out and really didn't like it. Had a lot of little quirks that I just want impressed with. I'm sure they have changed since, maybe it's time a check em out again.

As I search for rods the Mojo keeps coming back to the surface. I think I'm leaning more and more that way.  Going to bass pro today cause I can't stand to hold on to free money any longer. Not sure what I'll leave with yet.

If you can pop for the extra, I 110% agree with Brian down to the rod model. I have that model Mojo, the Wacky Style, and it is without a doubt one of the most versatile spinning rods I've ever owned.

Ended up getting the 6'8" MXF Mojo. Can't wait to put it to work but this weather isn't going to make it easy. :(

Man you're gonna love it. Like Clayton said, it's the most versatile spinning rod I've ever owned (hence why I have 3 of them). Enjoy!

Did you upgrade?

Maybe.  I went back and bought the 999 unit at Scheels.  If I can't get what I want out of my Lowrance units, then I'll keep them and sell the 999.  Would like to go back to HB, and the 999 is an upgrade in screen size and model year for my console unit.

Don't sleep on their jerkbait trigger stick either if you're ever in the market for one. I've had mine for like 3-4 years now, it doubles as a killer topwater rod and gets more use per year than any other.

And my spinning rods keep getting dustier B)

Any of you guys that are going to the Classic and need some baits, let me know ASAP because I'm going to order the materials for everything soon so I can get to work on stuff. I have a ton of already poured swimbait and tube heads. Going to be ordering some components to make some A-rigs and pouring a bunch of Ned heads for myself. Trying not to make it a last minute thing like it usually is and with the cold weather I'm much more likely to be able to keep myself away from the lake and actually do stuff. I'm sure it will primarily be a jerkbait bite if you're planning on fishing Grand, and probably at the other area lakes, but if you're going to Beaver I'd highly suggest having some A-rigs on hand if you don't already. They had to have blades on them last time I was on an A-rig bite there but might not be the case this time. You can buy them for about the same price they are to make but I like to customize mine so I'll be pouring and building my own.

Apparently there's an early season discount prices if you buy your fishing license now. I got $8 off my combo license  (of course I got gouged for more than that in inconvenience fees for doing it online), but if you have to buy then anyways, might as well save some money.

Got all of my stuff yesterday at Clinton, the discount applies if you renew before Feb. 1st.
