Tried to go back to Lake Shawnee and find that smallmouth's momma, but it didn't happen. I'm not sure if I was bass fishing or walleye fishing by the end of the day? I think the fact that I caught a yellow perch right off the bat might have added to the confusion. With Jacob catching a carp, catfish, crappie, and green sunfish to go along with his largemouth and smallmouth, and me catching walleye, bluegill, drum, and a yellow perch, we literally almost caught everything that swims in that lake in 2 days.

I had a days worth of work this weekend, so I decided to take care of it Saturday instead of Sunday because we were out late-ish Friday night in KC watching my son's football team lose a playoff game. I decided by 1:30 I had chosen the wrong day, so I took the wife out to Perry Saturday afternoon but only got about an hour of fishing between stalking eagles and osprey. What a nice afternoon, though.

Got to Melvern Sunday morning at daybreak. Had a great spook bite going early-- for white bass. I only got one smallie to chase a moving bait which was a problem because by 8:30 or so the wind made it difficult to fish much of anything else. I managed a few hopping a rootbeer/green flake tube and dragging a PB&J Ned before the huge rollers chased me off the lake by 10:30. Back to the office by 12:30. Of course, as I worked Sunday afternoon, I noticed the wind settle down nicely. Oh well.

Woke up late on Saturday so I decided to hit something local. Put in at Olathe hoping to throw a few bonus wipers or saugeye in the mix. Lake was in prime turnover with cloudy water and green scum all over. A few bites on the main lake but it was painfully slow. So I went wayyyyy up the creek in search of better water and found a bunch of short fish on a shakey head but nothing of real size. There was tons of bait stacked up in the usual saugeye and wiper spots but they wouldn't eat anything I had, and I tried everything.

Adam and I took my boat to gardner on Saturday to work/check on my trailer bunks.  Looks like I need to replace all of them due to wood rot. Got a makeshift fix on the two  that had come loose.

After wasting time on that we fished for about an hour and a half. caught about 7 in that time frame with 3 being right at 2 pounds. Started to figure them out right before we left which was a shame.  Adam had plans he had to get off the water for.

The fish we caught were on jerkbaits and flippin spoons around the deeper docks.

Anyone ever used any of the All Star technique-specific rods they sell at Academy?  Are they any good for the price?

I've got the spinner bait model. Works well and loads up nice. I use it for spinnerbaits, bladed jigs and spooks. Performed well on all.

Fished Edgerton City Lake (Santa Fe Lake) for about 40 minutes yesterday morning. First time I've ever caught more than 1 fish there. I caught 2 dinks, both on a black and blue BHW. I also lost a very solid fish that spun my kayak around before it came off. It hit immediately after my bait hit the water and when I set the hook my rod butt when into my hoodie pocket and stopped my hook set early. I don't think it was a monster but I'd guess probably in the 3-4 pound range. Also had a fish pop a jig pretty good twice but wasn't there on the hook set. The state has been stocking and managing that lake for several years now. I keep waiting for it to turn around a little bit but it just doesn't seem to be happening.

Hmmmm, the sarcasm font they described in the Forum Rules and FAQs must not work on my laptop.

Went to Cedar Creek till about 11:00 yesterday.  Caught 8, mostly on spinner bait.  Largest 18".  All on south side of lake.  Went to a north bank for about two casts and decided that was enough.  By the time I got the boat loaded there were actually rollers on that little lake.

Couldn't have paid me to fight that wind yesterday

Nope, nope and nope. Had yesterday off and planned to take a vet out, but had to totally cancel. I'd driven over to Clinton to, at the very least fish around the marina cove, but the SW wind was blowing 3 footers up on to the ramp. Just was not happening.

South bank wasn't really too bad.  Hills and trees blocked the wind pretty well.  Besides, I had new Garmin toys to play with! :cool-2:
