If I do half as good at Gardner Thursday night as I did today I'll be a happy guy! 8 keepers over 15" that I measured, maybe another 1 or 2 that would have gone that I didn't bother measuring. Just over 13 pounds for the biggest 5. Normally it would take every fish I could catch in a day out there to get 13 pounds. Bigger fish were on frogs, bladed jig, beavers, and a swimbait. I only fished about 1/2 the lake and I got a late start and left early so who knows what could have happened if I'd gotten out early or had all day to fish. Working on getting a video for everyone before Thursday, but there were a lot of fish caught so uploading is taking awhile :)

Some good looking fish bluebasser. I caught one about the same size. It was second fish caught on the lake and my second from my new kayak. I thought I recognized your boat on the lake.

Mines pretty hard to mistake. If the color doesn't give it away, the Golden Retriever will.

Is anyone fishing this weekend (somewhat close to KC) that has an open seat??  I have only been out a couple times this year and have only caught 2 bass :cry4:   I would love to go somewhere that the opportunity is there to catch more than 1.

If anyone has an open seat shoot me a PM and we can discuss it.

Thank you

Kyle

Anyone pick on the rock pile @ Gardner? It used to be one of my best spots. Seems it was just north of the beach. I could be wrong.

Me and a friend are headed to Tablerock this weekend to fish. I figured I would try a little of everything. Top water, jig, cranks.

Has anyone been down there recently and know whats working best?

I haven't fished Gardner except for the Thursday nighters this year and don't know much about it, but Clayton and another buddy have talked about that beach spot being Saugeye city. If the rocks are still there that would make sense.

I've been getting some off other rockpiles, but haven't hit that one much lately. Few fish on football jigs off of it though.

That whole lake is a rockpile once you get off the bank a little bit  :eyebrows:  Funny thing is, I usually catch my saugeyes over the mud/sand or buried up in the weeds.

I was at Table Rock Jun 15th - 18th.  This was before the 5 - 7 inch deluge that came at the end of that week.  The lake was up and drop-shots with the bait at 30 feet, more or less, on long gravel points seemed to be the best for spotted bass and a few smallmouths.  If you found a group you could catch 20 or more in a day.  You had to get out early to find the fish and get you a point though.  I went out late one day and it seemed every good point was taken.  I improvised that day and found smallmouths and spots hanging off an underwater bluff end that dropped around 30 - 40 feet on the initial drop.  I was catching those fish with a half ounce spoon.  I would swim it off the bottom and sometimes I would drop it straight down.  Both seemed to work at times.  The drop-shot wasn't as successful for these fish.  I did not catch any fish on topwater though the water surface was perfect for it early and late.  I read a report from a guide who said the topwater bite was dying off now that the water was around 80 degrees but he said a few fish could still be caught on topwater very early and very late.  As for jigs, I have a couple of jigs tied on at all times and I didn't catch any fish on them; however, when I saw the jig bite was going to be tough and found other methods to catch fish I didn't go back to them.  I'm sure I could have caught a fish here and there with a deep football jig.

There were a lot of pleasure boaters as well so the lake was rough.  Be ready to trim down and take it slow in places.

Since the big rains on June 18th - 19th, things may have changed, although a drop-shot usually works in the summer on Table Rock if you find the fish.

Oh, I was fishing in the Long Creek area all the way around to Indian Point.  The James River area and further up the White will probably fish shallower since that water will be more stained.  I hear the Kings River arm is muddy in places so it will be shallower still.

First time I went to Gardner a few years ago small bass were blowing up the surface at that area.  We caught a bunch but they were all 10" or so.  Didn't know there was a rock pile there but they were definitely packed in that area.
