Mr_Scrogg Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Is the Shimano Compre the one 4th from the top? Yes, pink sock. Little of the paint is missing from where the reel seat locks in from wife's jewelry. Quote
RangerDanger Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 The wiper fishing looks awesome! I've never caught one. Caught my first one yesterday with Chris S. I just wanted to run my boat and get out on a nice day might as well fish right? I could see on my electronics where they were getting them to bite was a different story. Was a fun day for sure. Ondrejka Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Anyone who doesn't think catching wipers is fun needs their head examined. That's an understatement. It is literally the closest fighting fish in KS to the King Salmon I grew up catching on Lake Michigan. Whites become an annoyance when I'm trolling for Walleye during the summer, but you can give me a Wiper every day and twice on Sundays. Quote

Ondrejka Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Wow I have never fished for them before, how does one start? More often than not it's as simple as find the shad, the Wipers won't be far behind. When the water is warm, the shad start busting the surface and the Wipers do too in a massive feeding frenzy. Sometimes you can literally catch them on anything, but obviously shad imitators are the winner. All of my biggest have come from Clinton the past two years. These guys have them dialed at Olathe and Wyandotte. Lone Star even has a few too, I forgot to post this report back in early September. My buddy Austin caught this 5 pounder with me in 3 feet of water way back in the main cove on a spook. First Wiper I've ever seen from Lone Star. 2 Quote

micahthorlawson Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I love catching Wipers. I don't no squat about targeting them though. I don't have electronics, so unless they are busting shad I am clueless. Got into a school of them at Gardner this year, nothing over a couple pounds though. Also, I caught a small one at lone star slow rolling a spinnerbait. Once I get a real boat I plan on going to la cygne ALOT to get into them. I am seen them bust at Olathe a lot, but not for long periods of time. Also, Did anyone happen to buy any of those Pfluegers that were for sale? I missed out on them. Quote

sizzlefry Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Wow I have never fished for them before, how does one start? Wow I have never fished for them before, how does one start?find a school of shad on your electronics stop and jig a spoon or I use a 2-3 inch shad swimbait with chartruse colors. I know a ned rig works also. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 1, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 1, 2014 Pretty interesting video on the floatation of certain Zman baits. I thought they all floated all the time, apparently not. 2 Quote

Whites become an annoyance when I'm trolling for Walleye during the summer, but you can give me a Wiper every day and twice on Sundays. Speaking of twice on Sundays, my father and I braved the cold and wind and hit LaCygne yesterday from about 9:30-1. It was very interesting because, as some of the guys heard from text yesterday, I witnessed a guy wading into the water between the cables and waterfall to fish. I thought about tossing my jigging spoon towards him but didn't want to chance getting caught in the cable. Both my father and I caught our PB wipers so that made it worth it. The first picture is the engulfed swimbait I was using. The next picture is my PB of 5.28 lbs (sorry for the sideways picture, for some reason it won't let me rotate it) This is my father's new PB of 5.76 lbs Quote
Doc-Drew Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Pretty interesting video on the floatation of certain Zman baits. I thought they all floated all the time, apparently not. I remember when I was first introduced to the Ned rig by a guide, he said many guys who use them in tournaments let them soak in their livewells overnight to achieve maximum flotation before they use them. Apparently the high salt content sinks them but once the worms are stretched or soaked, a lot of the salt comes out and allows them to float. 1 Quote
Chris S Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Went out with Adam Saturday, man we picked the right day to go out! Slow going at first but we managed to find a few! Here is a pic of the 6.75 lbs slob I hooked into! 20 feet of water on a manns spoon silver/black. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 2, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 2, 2014 Whats up with the snaps on the shakey heads?? I imagine he's using them to change heads without having to retie everytime since it won't effect the buoyancy of the bait and he isn't trying to catch fish with it. 1 Quote

BassinR83 Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Late fishing report. Tried Melvern in the wind on Saturday with my dad. We only caught 5, but 4 were fish over 15". The only way we could get bit was a drop shot in 16 fow near the d**n. I'm still learning that place and hoping to explore it some more next year. Quote
