I went to Lone Star last night from about 4-8. What a beautiful night. Not to mention fishing was pretty good. I started with my 3rd cast catching a 19.5" 3.47lb largemouth on a squarebill. Next cast was a 6" smallmouth. I probably caught 5 fish in the first 10 minutes. Then the little wind that was there died down and something started busting shad out in the middle of the cove. I spent probably over 30 minutes trying to catch whatever it was and was unsuccessful. I went back to fishing and catching bass. I found that the key was burning the small squarebill in about 3' of water so that it would crash against bottom continuously. If I wasn't hitting bottom, I wasn't catching fish. The two best baits for me were Havoc Craw Fatty pitched into cover and just deadsticking it or burning the KVD 1.0. Here is a picture of the first fish of the day. The fish had a deformed jaw and doesn't look as big as it was.

It was just me last night. In fact, I had the whole lake to myself. Wednesdays I only work until noon. So now that cooler weather is here, I am going to try to get out as often as I can Wednesdays.

I've seen the same thing happen out there a few times when the wind dies down, and like you I haven't been able to pull anything out of it. There's definitely alot of forage in that lake due to the grass.

I did manage to pull a 10" bass out of one of the schools of shad but this school was being pushed towards the bank (more like what I am used to bass doing to shad)

A friend from work is going there tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how he does.

Well the KC Star report said Melvern was good, so down we went. Between two of us we caught probably 60 small mouth. Nothing real big mostly 12 to 15 inches. I did get one that was 18 in. Didn't weigh it but was a nice fish.

Selfies with fish don't turn out too well.....lol

Oh Im sure a Jerk Jerk Pause will work too. I dont think the water temps are quite prime for it though

Larger ones liked the cranks, fluke junior was hit by all, the smaller ones likes the Ned. They were in 5 to 9 fow.

They're all still there, just for holes in their lips........

I didn't see a top raider or a double cowgirl.

There's a top raider in my box, but a double cowgirl would be way too big right now. They're on more of a mepps musky killer size.

Midday report from Melvern. Been here about an hour and can't keep track of how many fish I've caught so far
