Ondrejka Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Fun time tonight fellas! Good to meet some of you guys. Looking forward to the next. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 8, 2014 Super User Posted August 8, 2014 Who won and what did it take to win? Quote
SuperFluke Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Who won and what did it take to win?  2.79 lbs won with big bass coming in at a whopping .99lbs . Most everybody weighed in their limit of sub 13" fish, and not a single fish over 18" was caught. Not sure if any of us even caught any slot (13-18") fish that we had to throw back... conorsixtakc Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 At least the bag weighed 0.75 lbs hah  ...Bluebasser86 blew me and Ondrejka out of first by a whole half pound  Quote

micahthorlawson Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 It was fun! Thanks for going to a small lake where I could use the pond hopper! 3 Quote

Beats not weighing anything week after week at Wyco though right? Not going to have any monster bags of fish weighed in these things, but everyone having a few 12" fish is a whole lot better than nobody weighing anything. 1 Quote

Several years ago I fished a similar tax from another web site where we just measured the fish and used a chart to determine weight. Of course it was on the honor system. The shortest length on the chart was 12". It was fun and good comraderie. Plus $20.00 a boat nobody lost a lot of $$$. Quote

Similar to something we've discussed a little bit. It's less stress on the fish, easier on boats that don't have the best livewells/any livewell to participate, and it makes the lakes with a slot, 18" or 21" length limit a more viable option. I think the only hard thing we might have in that situation is getting everyone to buy the same ruler so we're all getting the same measurements. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 So what lake next Saturday? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 9, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 9, 2014 So what lake next Saturday? I think Pleasanton East was on the docket for next Saturday. I won't be able to make it so it's up to whoever is fishing on times and everything. That one almost has to be a paper tournament since it's a 21" lake though. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 I fished Smithville Lake today for 5 hours and caught 5 bass. Â I didn't nail down a good pattern today. Â The fish were caught in 1 foot of water and down to 15 feet in and around grass edges off of main lake points. Â If there was wood in the grass that seemed to help. Â The two biggest fish were 3 lbs 4 oz and 3 lbs at 18 and 17.5 inches respectively. Â I also caught a 4 lb channel cat on a black/blue jig. Â Â The skiers and tubers really were irritating today. Â I was fishing on the main lake where there is plenty of rooom and they were still driving by within a cast of me. Â And these were not little runabouts. Â I don't know why someone needs a boat with a cabin to go skiing. Â Â There were some huge waves rolling in most of the time I was out there. Â 1 Quote
MXHalofan Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Thanks for the update on Smithville. Thinking about Priarie Lee in the rain tomo unless my batterys finish charging soon Quote
SuperFluke Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Yeah, it was fun to actually weigh fish. I didn't have a good culling system, so we tried culling once and then just gave up and tried to catch a really big one. Those little suckers are almost impossible to get out of a full livewell. Should have brought a minnow net... I would appreciate a quicker weigh in next time. It was tough enough to get the time off from wife and baby and spending an extra hour at the ramp didn't help my cause to be able to do this again soon. I know having only one ramp made it tough to get everybody out (especially in the dark). Just my two cents. 4 Quote

We could always still weigh them but just do it on our boats and have to show the scale and fish in a picture kind of like we do at the get togethers, that would be much faster as well. Not having to catch keepers also makes lakes like Olathe or Hillsdale more viable options when you don't have to catch 18" fish on lakes were there aren't many. 2 Quote
micahthorlawson Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I went to Critzer this weekend. If you want to go there don't, go to mound city instead.  Caught some fish that looked like monsters compared to the "keepers" at douglas county, but nothing over 15". Did lose one good fish at the boat. It was in about 2 feet of water by grass on the far west side of the lake. My other fish came flippin trees and caught 3 on a shakey head off the dam. Ondrejka Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Didn't get to fish much this weekend. Took my mother in law out on Clinton Friday afternoon, pretty much a dead sea right now. Have the itch to fish Lone Star so I'll be out after work today. Quote
bdh64158 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Looking for help.  My motor blew during a Thursday night tournament at Smithville lake two weeks ago. It is going in for repairs today, but I am without a boat and need to fish the last three Thursday night tournaments in order to get the   points needed to qualify for end of year fish off.  Does anyone know of someone who would be comfortable either renting out a boat, or perhaps fishing a Thursday night or two?  This couldnt have happened at a worse time, so Im hopeful someone on here will be able to help out.  My personal email is bdh67601@yahoo.com, so please contact me if you or anyone you know might be of assistance.  Thanks!  Rob H. Super User skunked_again Posted August 11, 2014 Super User Posted August 11, 2014 We had a blast on Melvern Sat. The weather made the start risky. A lot of 12' Smallies and a few 15's.  Sight fishing Scrounger heads and 4" trick worms. A view crank bait fish when we could find shad.  I'm not seeing shad on this lake like I used too. The bass had been feeding on Gar of all things. Seeing that was a first for me as well. Flattest I've seen that lake for August.  1 Quote

The smallies sure have gotten a lot skinnier since the water came up haven't they? 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 12, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 12, 2014 If any of you guys are interested in chipping in to potentially get access to fish Linn Valley Lakes in Linn Co, send me a PM or text if you have my number.   Also, talked to Raymond from Mondo today and he wanted to know if all of us would like to meet at Mondo one night for a discount shopping night and so he can get some ideas of what everyone thinks he should or shouldn't be carrying. If you're interested let me know and I'll talk to him and try to get a night planned out. 2 Quote
RangerDanger Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Tell me about Critzer. Not really interested in a report, but would like to know about access. I've heard it's really difficult to get to where you want, mostly from guys with big (21') boats. What size boat is ideal for that lake? Quote

Conorsixtakc recently told me about Mondo and I've been meaning to get out there and spend some monies. Quote

There is a ton of trees. Like 80% of the lake is flooded timber. I have fished it out of my buddy's 21 ft stratos, but it's much better to have a smaller boat. I have a 10 ft pond hopper and obviously can through whatever I want with it. You can avoid the west end of the lake and be ok, but if you want to fish the whole lake the smaller the boat the better. And if you have a nice fiberglass boat you may just wanna save yourself the drive.
