Melvern trip tomorrow morning with conorsixtakc. What's the good word? Have a real bad case of Smallie fever!

A little late for you Ondrejka since you're probably on the water right now....... But melvern was pretty good to us on Wednesday. Didn't catch any big fish but caught plenty of 14-16's. Probably caught 60-75 fish between the 3 of us, didn't really keep track though. Most came on Ned, with a couple each being caught on a spook and shakyhead. Biggest was just shy of 3 pounds and had several at around 2 1/2 pounds. Aside from getting rained on from about 0530-1200 it was a pretty good day. Had a bit of a flurry at the end of the day. I was reeling in a dink and had two 4+ pound smallies trying to take the bait away from the fish. The surface activity even picked up around 2:00. I had already caught a couple small fish shallow and as I was walking my spook away from the rocks another small one kept hitting it. I was getting a laugh watching this fish play with the bait and as I did, another 4 pound class fish came clear out of the water and slapped the bait several feet away. That was a little disappointing.....

Man, Melvern was tough for us today. Real tough. That lake always has a learning curve for me because I simply don't fish it a lot. My very first trip I was so spoiled, but the last two times I've been out have been rough. I also took conorsixtakc both times...funny how that works... ;)

Anyway, caught a few dinks. And I mean dinks. By the sound of it today no one was really doing well. Forgot how busy that lake gets on the weekend during the summer. Still fun to get out that way and take a break from Clinton.

If you guys are into it, I contribute to a local blog called Kansas Outdoorsman. I haven't written since last season, so this post is basically a year in review up to about two weeks ago. Have a read!

You are the flathead master here lately Curt! Sucks with the tire, at least you didn't wreck your trailer when it blew.

Took me long enough but I finally took Lake out in the boat last Wednesday. Figured it was time, he is 7.5 months old after all :). He got to meet one of the fish we'll be looking for on Thursday night at Douglas too  :laugh5:

Hahaha. Yup.

Anyway, I'm not sure if the subject of farm ponds here is taboo or not, but thought I'd check anyway. My good friend who is from Texas was asking me if I knew of any farm ponds that had some toads in it. He's big on pond fishing and would be cool to get him out to one. We are obviously very respectful of the property, so if anyone knows of a gem that would be worth checking out. Let me know.

He's going to come to KS from TX looking for big bass??  :eh:

I don't have access to any with really big fish but you might check out the FISH atlas and see if you can find any worth fishing. The pits down by Pittsburg, KS are public and have some big fish in them, probably about your best option. There's a new state record swimming in the Trout pit down there I promise.

Looking forward to being at the Douglas County get together/tournament.  Have a buddy that is going to fish in my pond hopper boat with me.

Also, Has anyone fished Harrisonville North Lake ?  I went yesterday and caught alot of healthey 13-15 inch bass.   Seemed like a place where there might be a couple big ones.  But I was there in the heat of the day and had to leave well before sunset.  Anyone ever done well there?

Regarding the tourney on Thursday...

Planning to come out, just couldn't find details on if there is a buy in, or if it's just for bragging rights. Pardon my ignorance or if I didn't look deep enough. Couldn't make it to the meet up but still want to come out Thursday!

25 dollar per boat 5 goes towards big bass of the night.

I'm not sure I'll be able to make it Thursday, I ordered a pair of tires but they won't arrive until Thursday.

Without a spare I'm fairly nervous. :-/

I haven't posted all the details because you aren't supposed to advertise tournaments and such on the forum, not wanting to get in trouble about the deal. If you want the full details send me a PM and I'll fill you in and answer any questions you have.

Sorry about that friend. Will remember that!

I might not have a partner if you want to tag along with me. I'll find out later today whether or not he's able to go.

New member here.  I stumbled across this thread a couple of weeks ago and signed up yesterday.  I posted an introduction in the appropriate section, check it out if you like.  I live in Lenexa and work in OP.  I might be interested in what is going on Thursday night, but can't this Thursday.

Fished Hillsdale this morning for about 2 hours. Weather was nice, fishing sucked. I had 2 for sure bites but I'm also pretty sure that neither was a bass and most likely were sunfish.

I did manage to arrow a 27.5lb grass carp though :)
