Skeeter9948 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I went out to Olathe Lake this weekend for a bit....that lake just looks fishy. I only caught two decent fish over 15 inches, but plenty of smaller ones. to be honest I was at the point of just wanting to feel something tug on the end of my line haha. Spinnerbait was the ticket. I did catch a 3 pound flathead on a senko right off the ramp to end the day so that was fun haha. If I'd have caught another those two might have gone home with me. By the way Blue.....you were right about the water being fairly trashed. It was pretty muddy. Quote
conorsixtakc Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 That's a BEAUTY of a spot you caught there Thanks man! They're so much fun on light tackle. All my spots came from open water behind docks in this one spawning pocket. I just shook it and they would come! Quote

joefish Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Question: I bought some bladed jigs but have never fished them, do you fish them the same as a regular jig, or swim them? Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted May 6, 2014 Super User Posted May 6, 2014 Anyone fished Cedar Lake lately? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 6, 2014 Super User Posted May 6, 2014 Question: I bought some bladed jigs but have never fished them, do you fish them the same as a regular jig, or swim them? You can do either but I mainly fish them like a spinnerbait. Quote
fknlo Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Hit Olathe this morning after I got off work. Only caught 3, but one was probably in the 3-4 lb range, so not too bad. The highlight of the day was some eastern European or Russian guy who was fishing from the shore yelling at me as he decided I was too close to his lines. Quote
cbass12 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Anyone fished Cedar Lake lately? Planning on trying to catch some crappie there tomorrow. May throw a bladed jig and a creature bait around too. I'll post a report. Quote
basshunter0731 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 joefish, fish the bladed jig slow. I like to barley feel the vibration of the blade. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 7, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 7, 2014 Question: I bought some bladed jigs but have never fished them, do you fish them the same as a regular jig, or swim them? Straight, steady retrieve, like slowly retrieving a spinnerbait. You can reel them faster but a majority of my big fish on them come on a very slow retrieve, just fast enough to keep the blade moving, bonus points if it's occasionally contacting bottom. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted May 7, 2014 Super User Posted May 7, 2014 I love the bladed swim jig. Slow retrieve and when I feel the bait hit the bottom I give a quick twitch. Gardner Lake loves them. 1 Quote

Have any of you fished Paradise Lake Resort in Lone Jack Missouri? Welcome Austin! Good to see you on here! Hope to see you and Blake at one of the get togethers sometime. I've never fished it but I've considered it many times. Anywhere that's produced 13lb fish that's within a decent drive is going to get my attention Quote

Anywhere that's produced 13lb fish that's within a decent drive is going to get my attention I really hate that I missed melvern, and I don't like it much that I won't be going to Grand either. Hopefully I can convince you boogers to do some sort of summer time get together. I don't want to go through withdrawals. Hey Austin, good to see ya here. (this is Blake by the way). Quote

Jim Fish the Zarks Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Hi all! It's been a long time since I've stalked the forum or posted anything, but I've recently caught a serious fishing bug. I'll just reintroduce myself. I'm live in the South OP area, and I typically fish the Lake of the Ozarks. The kidlets activities have kept me from going to the lake, however summer is almost here so I'll be going down weekly starting on Memorial Day weekend. The last few weeks I've just been hitting local ponds bank fishing...some private and some public. Its been a fun learning experience fishing some of these smaller waters from shore! I'm on a roll...I've caught at least 1 bass everyday for the last 8 days! After reading some of posts on here I'm going to try to hit Cedar Lake and see what I can come up with. I look forward to sharing some info! 1 Quote
lineman82637 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Update from the Clinton lake tourney last weekend. I caught mpb small mouth 4#8oz and placed 5th overall with 9 pounds even . 1,2,3, tie with 9 # 9 oz. I had to turn one fish loose at the dock a 14 7/8 inch small mouth that i measured 3 times when caught 15 inches and once more before i grab the bag. but the final time i could not get him to touch the line . lol I missed first place buy 1/8of an inch but had a great day . next up Perry this Saturday team tourney with son . lineman82637 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Go out to Douglas, you can keep 5 under 12" out there. You and one other person keeping 10 12 inchers is a pretty good little mess of fish and they're much better eating at that size. I think Miami is going to that same slot limit too and could certainly stand to lose some small fish. Douglas has much cleaner water though. tongi lake has a slot too anything under 13 over 18 Quote

I look forward to sharing some info! Have you made it down to LOZ this Spring? Despite taking a while to turn on like all the other lakes, it's been a good one! My next trip down won't be until memorial day weekend after that I try to get down every weekend through the fourth of July. Despite all the commotion fishing can still be great as long as you're willing to fish early and at night. Not to mention the surplus of people watching and general hijinks that make for fun afternoons on the water Quote
