I wanna say we boated 8 more smallies, all dinky compared to the one in that pic. Lost something big at the dam that shook a squarebill off, guessing either another big smallie or spawned out walleye. Two healthy wipers too, all shallow on square bills. Hallelujah, water above 60° with some stain!

That's good news.  It would be awesome to see Clinton turn into a good smallmouth lake!  Shawnee Mission Park is next on the smallmouth list, guys.  Get ready to pony up for a JoCo license next year.  Problem is that it's a trolling motor only lake, and the dam is on the other end of the lake from the ramp!

This ^^^^^ I'm probably going to go out there one of these days and walk the bank just NE of the dam. Lucky for me the permits are free, perks of working for the county  :laugh5:

Clinton is a tough fishery from the two times I fished it this year. I wouldn't have gone at all if my club didn't hold a tournament out there.

What a buddy of mine and me did find prefishing out there were a couple of these though...

I will note it took 15 pounds to win at my club, however, only one guy caught a limit.

Everyone else that brought fish in only brought in one or two.

Half the club didn't bring in any.

That and the pictures should tell you there are bigger fish in there.

That should also tell you that... populations aren't great and fishing is tough.

That's good, because they don't hesitate to give tickets out there! That lake's got some big wipers in it too, I landed my personal best from shore there last Spring. a 9# that wrapped me around a tree.

Guys,

Trying to clean out my garage.  I've got an old Lowrance Elite 4 with transducer that I need to get rid of.  It was on the bow of my boat.  The transducer cable does have a cut in it, but it didn't seem to affect its functionality.  Anyway, I'll let it go to anyone that will just pay for me to ship it to them.  Send me a PM.

Might wanna put this up on the FS forum under the "Pay It Forward". Some kayak guys might jump on it.

As opposed to what? Does lowrance make one that doesn't take batteries? Solar? Lol

I have a battery pack that will work for it. It holds 8AA batteries. They are only a couple bucks on EBay

Dad and I fished Wabaunsee today. Water was very low and it started really slow after the cold weather and all the rain. I caught a decent smallmouth on a jerkbait early on that was 2 1/2lbs. Caught fish fairly well along the dam but just little ones. Got to the deeper bank by the dam on the west side and got a good one on a homemade brush jig. First keeper was 3.90 pounds.

Hit a very long dry spell with just a couple fish here and there and a lost one in the 4-5 pound range. After fishing all the deeper banks, I was really surprised when we started getting bit better when we got to the shallow, flat banks with docks. I was dragging the same homemade brush jig when it felt like it just disappeared. Crank like crazy and stuck a heavy fish. Wasn't sure it was a bass for quite awhile until I saw it. 21" long, super thick, and 5.33 pounds.

All down the east arm with the deeper banks it was steady but nothing big, did miss a couple really hard hits though. Very back of that arm the water temp was 63.4 and I thought there had to be a good fish back there. Picked up a spinning rod with a Strike King Ocho and found her, 4.73lbs.

Fished around the concrete swim beach wall and back into the pocket by the ramp and got one last good one on the same homemade brush jig, 3.88lbs.

Well I was gonna get out to melvern tomorrow

Buttttt

The forecast has jumped up to 20-30 mph winds with 35 mph gust, and 40 percent chance of storms. No thanks.

May just end up catching up on sleep :-/

Did you tell her I said hi?

I got chewed out when we were leaving. They have a new system now that you can leave your fishing license and boat registration with them and they do the paperwork while you're fishing. Well it was the other ol gal when we put in and she didn't ask what I needed. Turns out she put me down for the year permit like I got last year, but I didn't want this year. Apparently I should have told her what I wanted even though she didn't ask. Thankfully I was able to get my rods and tackle out of the boat before she soaked everything with bleach.

A friend and I were fishing at a private lake in Rice County, and we caught these.....

The first one is 4lbs 12oz, next is 5lbs 13oz and mine is 7lbs 6oz......what an awesome day, we were both using white spinnerbaits, his was a Terminator, mine was Strike King....we each caught about 10, these were the best!

Hey I moved to Lees Summit from central Arkansas a couple years ago but have only been bass fishing around here since last summer when I bought my boat. I have struggled much more than expected but am encouraged by the stories and pics you all have posted on here.

I would really like to learn from some of you let me know if anyone ever has a seat open or would want to come along with me. I have a Triton x17 aluminum bass boat. I would also be interested if anyone is in a local club that is accepting new members.

I have mainly fished longview and prairie lee with a couple trips to truman and Cygne, but am open to trying out some other lakes.

Thanks

Jeremy

You're fishing some terribly difficult lakes for one thing. I've fished La Cygne for over a decade now and I still feel like I've barely begun to figure the lake out. Longview I've heard is a lot like fishing Wyco, which is all I need to know to decide to not fish there. Truman is a flood control lake first and the constant water fluctuation makes it impossible to get stable conditions that are conducive to good fishing.

Are you wanting to stay to the MIssouri side or do you mind fishing KS lakes? I'm sure the non resident KS license is steep (the resident permit is too), but there's lots of little lakes on the KS side with really pretty good fishing, for numbers at least.

Olathe Bass Club is almost always looking for members it seems. East Kansas Bassmasters is a buddy format that I prefer over the draw but not sure how their membership works. Fishing as a non boater in a bass club is how I learned a lot of stuff, kind of like a guided trip you might win some money on.

Thanks for the information, that makes me a feel a littler better about the lakes I've been fishing.  Yes I am open to fishing in Kansas, I think the non resident licensee is $44 which I can live with considering Jackson county charges around $80 to fish our county lakes.

With this time of year what lake in Kansas do you recommend?

Also I have seen some of you talking about a bladed jig, is it the same as a chatterbait?  That is something I have never used but  am interested in, when would you use it and how is the retrieve?

Thanks for the help

I don't know how big of a motor you have on your boat but if you have a 25 h.p. our less. You might want to check out Lake Jacomo very good lake if you are into shallow fishing. You can go down the bank and flip grass and catch 2 pounder after 2 pounder. Also you can fish some of the weekly tournaments out at lake jacomo and learn from some of those guys. It is also a very good way you get away from the fishing pressure like on longveiw lake or blue springs. My name is Charlie baker you can text me at 816-4010182 if you need any more info.

Yes it's a chatterbait. Bluebasser makes some nice ones in some great colors that work around this area. You may want to PM him and see if he can hook you up.

I have a 60hp, and have been too lazy to take my prop off to to go Jacomo but I may need to do that......not sure how difficult it is.

When do you expect the Bass to start spawning around here, or have they already? Also what patterns should we be fishing right about now in this area?

Thanks

Well I plan to be on the water tomorrow morning on Lake Jacomo. I have not been since last Monday but last Monday they were still on the main lake stuff, I caught a four pounder and two 15 inchers. Caught one in a brush pile, one on the dam, and one right inside a main spawing creek. All fish came in about 3-to-5 foot of water. Water temps in around 55-56 degrees. To answer your question no they were not spawing yet they weren't even in the backs of the creeks yet. I caught all three of those fish on a crock-er-gator green pumpkin jig with a uv tightlines beaver trailer. Once the water temps get around 60-65 degrees they will start to spawn. A buddy of mine fished Stockton this weekend and he said the fish where spawing in every cove and pocket. The water temp down there is about 63-64 degrees so it should only be a matter of days before the fish move back in to the spawing pockets in some of our local lakes.
