conorsixtakc Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Anybody heard anything on the Hillsdale walleye situation? Me and a buddy are considering joining the hooligans for a night on the dam. Quote

The spot that always looks so fire but I never catch one there? That's a nice LM as well. Nope. Couldn't catch one on a point. Honestly, the fish I caught have been in quiet, slick water pockets that were out of the wind. That one was in an area where the man-made rip-rap met the bank opposite the marina.   Nice Superfluke MBA, guess maybe we should have gone to Melvern Tuesday ??? Yes. Let's not make that mistake again. It's well worth the extra thirty min.  --  Well, I decided late last night to head back to Melvern today to catch some more pigs! Met up with @Hi_Salenity and @Sizzlefry, which was cool. Thanks for hanging out with me today. I actually probably would have had more 3+ size fish today had I not lost 3 solid fish this morning. Started out right next to the state park ramp and had one follower and one hit and miss, which would kind of be the story of the day. Went to the marina area and caught another 3.3lb smallmouth in the exact same spot where I had caught a 3.2 yesterday. Had probably my best fish of the day on in the marina area soon after, but it made a beeline for the docks and stripped a bunch of drag and then pulled off . Went the rest of the way back the marina cove and had several strikes and follows but no bass boated. Hooked two more for sure good ones on the dam and they both jumped off. I was casting parallel to the bank in 6-10' of water near the southeast corner. Did eventually land 3 more smallmouth on the northern side of the dam and one nice largemouth on the quiet side of a main lake point. Ended up with 5 smallmouth, 1 largemouth, 1 white and 1 walleye.  No photographer today, so here's my biggest of the day - a 3.6lb largemouth that choked my jerkbait near a main lake point.   Here's the strike king jerkbait that I've thrown the last two days. Go pick some up at Academy for $7 before the Melvern get together. It's the 200 series one. I honestly wished I had had some different colors today because the sun was out and they weren't getting this one as well today.  1 Quote
sizzlefry Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 my report from melvern today. I SUCK AT FISHING 1 Quote
Wachati Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Went to melvern today against my better judgement. Couldn't fish anything I wanted to bc of the winds. Highlight of my day was catching some major air and watching my bow mount fish finder dangle by the cord. I think I marked 3 fish, caught one little chubby smallmouth. 1 Quote
pbrussell Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Table rock was... tough for me last weekend. Caught fish, just not the right kind. I'm headed to clinton tomorrow (you heard right), to pre-fish for a tourney I have out there next week. I'm not super excited about it. But, they say pushing yourself out of your comfort zone makes you better at what you do. Or something like that. If I don't get skunked, I will be happy. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted April 6, 2014 Super User Posted April 6, 2014 I know Melvern was TUFF on me and Sizzle Thursday but sitting at the dinner table and eating the Walleye I caught, I can barely remember the whitecaps and having to leave because Sizzles suit was only rated up to 100mph. 2 Quote

It was actually only a 50 mph suit that's why. 1 Quote

Caballo de Rio Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Hello all. I'm new to these forums but I like what I've read. As a bank fisherman most of my adult life I've just purchased a bucket-list item, a Bass Tracker PanFish 16.Might not be much to some but its a dream come true for me. I look forward to learning more about fishing local lakes from a boat. I've fished most of every lake at James A Reed, walked/fished all around Longview and a few coves at Jacomo. Quote

Lots of information about local lakes here, but very little from your side of the state line, would be nice to be reading some on here. I've been looking hard at registering my boat at Jacomo, seems like it's a pretty nice lake with some good fish in it. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 8, 2014 Global Moderator Posted April 8, 2014 As some of you know, Chris (kanasbassfisher08) and I were at Table Rock this past week while the Elites were there and fished almost all of Thursday and all Friday. Fishing was really pretty great both days, never did catch a big fish but the numbers of solid fish near keeper size to about 17" was great. We launched Thursday morning from Shell Knob and we were pretty immediately catching fish. Mike McClleland was fishing under the highway 39 bridge when we were launching but there was such a concentration of fish under there that we managed to catch some fish behind him on cranks while he was jerkbaiting. As we fished the pocket next to the ramp we caught fish steadily on jerks, bladed jigs, and football jigs. About that time it cut loose with lightning, downpour, and even hail, we caught fish right through all of it. After it cleared up we started bouncing around a bit and found fish on most any rocky point and smaller pockets with water at least 10' deep a decent cast away from the bank. We were catching them good enough that we double several times. Jerks and jigs did most of the damage but we got a few on cranks and 1 on an A-rig also. I fought off the biggest cottonmouth I've ever seen to get a Megabass Vision 110 magnum out of a tree and Chris lost a big fish in a tree almost immediately after that, so it was a pretty exciting day. We had probably close to 50 fish between us, all largemouth and spots. Friday was much colder and very windy all day. We launched from Baxter and again we caught fish immediately by the ramp on jerkbaits. Jerks were for sure the weapon of choice almost all day. Friday they seemed to be in the same areas, but there had to be some kind of wood around for the fish to be there. Lots of pros were running around Little Indian, including Aaron Martens, Chris Lane, and Randy Howell. We got in 1 pocket late morning that produced fish about every other cast for both of us all the way to the back of it, all 3 flavors of bass this time including my biggest smallmouth of the trip. Another bank in the early afternoon produced similar results, again for all 3 kinds of bass, including Chris' only smallmouth of the trip. All the spots we caught were extremely fat too like this one I caught for another double. Right at the end of the day the jerkbait bite died so I picked up an old school wart and started laying it on them right at dark. One fish was a toad, but unfortunately she had no desire to meet me and parted ways with my wart shortly after she rolled on the top We would have had close to 50 fish together again, just wearing the paint off our jerkbaits. 3 Quote

It's the same day and just a "for fun" tournament. No entry fee, just bragging rights so if you don't catch anything it's not as big of a deal. As a group we have enough knowledge of Melvern I think you'd almost have to try not to catch a fish there this time of year. 1 Quote
