Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 6, 2014 Super User Posted January 6, 2014 Why don't we try to do the weekend of May 31 And also do a one day event 2 months earlier, say the last Saturday in March? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 7, 2014 Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2014 So it looks like the 31st works for everyone that's chimed in so far? We'll go with that for now, so need to work out the location next I guess. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Isn't camping spots first to come first serve? Quote
SuperFluke Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Why don't we try to do the weekend of May 31 And also do a one day event 2 months earlier, say the last Saturday in March? I probably won't be able to make one in May, but I'd be able to do a one day event in March. Quote
cbass12 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Isn't camping spots first to come first serve? If we pick melvern we can reserve campsights in the Outlet Park below the dam. It's very well taken care of, and they rent out per campsite and allow either two or three tents per site which saves a little money. I think it's $17 per site. They also have bathrooms and showers. Mr_Scrogg Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I could see the weekend being a big family bit with kids running amuck, and adults enjoying a the company, burning some brats and downing a couple Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 7, 2014 Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2014 Isn't camping spots first to come first serve? The State Park at Melvern is but you can reserve COE camping spots so it just depends on where everyone stayed. Obviously I think everyone would want to stay close by each other for the cooking and BSing afterwards. Quote
basshunter0731 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Grand, I have access to two cabbins down there. They sleep at least 15-20 guys. Quote
basshunter0731 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Bull shoals is amazing in the spring also. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 8, 2014 Global Moderator Posted January 8, 2014 Grand, I have access to two cabbins down there. They sleep at least 15-20 guys. I forgot they had 2 cabins, we just used the one because it was cold and they had to re-winterize after the classic. I'm real confident that some guys aren't going to want to pull their boats down those nasty dirt roads either though. I can't remember if the one cabin had access right off the paved road though?? basshunter0731 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Paved road stops at the driveway of the first cabin. Quote
kanasbassfisher08 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 well my idea is have a early get together like march or april at melvern for the locals and maybe may or june do a long distance trip for the guys that want to go farther like grand table rock hazle creek!!! stockton loz bull beaver pomee a crap ton of other lakes that i missed that are 3 to 4 hours away that will be good. i know every one wont be able to make it but that shouldnt me we shouldnt go. thats just my idea have a one day at melvern or the bleach lady's lake early and it will be good! chime in and camping wont be bad in may i would kinda like to fish before the holiday weekend so we dont have to hope they have recovered but idc really. 1 Quote

pbrussell Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I plan on joining a club this year- not sure which. Hopefully none of the club tourneys interfere with this get together :-/ I went to BPS last night to fight some of the winter pains. They had a bunch of excalibur erratic shad, and strike king football jigs for sale. Ended up buying 12 jigs, and 6 jerkbaits for forty bucks. I'll take that. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 10, 2014 Global Moderator Posted January 10, 2014 Hillsdale I actually have some pretty consistently productive spots at Hillsdale now after fishing it a bunch last year. They've had a very aggressive 5 year stocking program for largemouth in Hillsdale (and Melvern) that is in year 3 I believe and they seem to be doing pretty well so far. Still, out of all the fish I caught last year only 1 was a keeper and I caught 5 keepers in 2 days at Truman so take that for what it's worth. Either way, I'll probably stay home if everyone wants to go to either of those lakes I plan on joining a club this year- not sure which. Are you looking for a club to fish as a boater or a team format? East Kansas Bassmasters fishes some good lakes and is a team format which I personally enjoy a lot more than getting paired with someone I don't know. Quote
Doc-Drew Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I'm definitely down with march for a one day-er. Count me in as a boater with a partner. As for May, I cannot say whether or not I am going to be able to fish. I graduate chiropractic college late April so it depends on my job situation. Quote
cbass12 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 But seriously I vote for either The Rock or Grand Lake. And like Chris said I'm not too fond of the idea of going the weekend of memorial day, would prefer the week before or after. Quote

Do we want to be on the water the weekend after the lake has been pounded? There will be plenty of fish to be caught still but just something to consider. Quote

I've got my eye on a couple of places. Quote
