Feel the hate of a fat man that had to work today and tomorrow.

Nice day.  How were the water temps?

I bet today is a WINNER.  I sure wish i could get out there.

Caught a ton of trout and whites, quite a few bluegills, and 4 or 5 bass. Small jigs caught a majority of the trout, bass, and bluegills. Most of the whites ate jerkbaits. Jon caught 3 trout and a bass on a Luck E Strike wart hog crank too. Great weather and pretty good fishing all day made it a really nice day.

Finally starting to feel like spring.

By the end of the day the water temps were 45 degrees by the dam, all the way up from 41.5 in the morning. We saw temps all the way up to 47 by a small waterfall. We're getting there.

Most of the fish I've caught are chock full of eggs....this warm rain we are expecting tomorrow should put us right around that 50 degree mark.  I thought these dang fish were never going to move up shallow.  Heck last March I've got a picture of me catching a smallie off a bed on the 15th!  I was also wearing shorts and a tshirt.....

My boat is loaded down with stuff right now. Trying to get as much stuff ready as possible to head to the White River and Bull Shoals Sunday night. Of course as nice as it's supposed to be and with it being the weekend I could probably just hop from boat to boat at La Cygne tomorrow  :eyebrows:

Cool, I'd be interested hear how you do on Bull.

It will be interesting. I don't really know the lake at all other than what I've read about it and what little I've learned about it from my two half days I've fished it. I know I had a lot of fun catching fish both times so hopefully we'll do the same this time. We'll be fishing around the dam and won't be able to run far with my little boat but I'm sure we'll figure something out.

My brother and I decided to bang the banks this morning on account of all the nasty weather. Didn't really feel like getting the boat out. The big girls came out to play and wanted spinnerbaits, so that's what we gave them. My brother caught his pb, and I couldn't be happier for him. Here's some pics of our big fish.

We happen to look a little alike. He's the one with the bigger fish/ brown hat.

Very well done. Would have loved to get out today. Days like today are some of my best days in the spring it seems like.

I went out Thursday to Butler SFL and got a single chunk. Wind was WAY more than advertised. Without anchor, my little yak was blew around.

Congrats to your bro!  I read on another board that there was a spinner bait bite on Table Rock today, I'm going to it beaver tomorrow and looks like I'll have to pack a spinner bait or three.

I wish I could give some advice but I haven't fished it myself.  Saw a fishing show the other day, they were fishing Bull in the spring and catching quite a few smallies, for the life of me I can't remember who it was fishing, (I watch too many fishing shows), but it looked like fun.  I'm sure you guys will do well.

Went out to DGCO Friday and fished for a few hours in the afternoon.  You could pick little ones off the rocks by the dam but he bite was slow for that lake. I did switch over to a white spinnerbait  after awhile because of the clouds and had 3 good strikes off of it that I realized too late.  I was pretty rusty from the winter off and fishing that slow with slack line alot made it tough.  Of course it's always the biggest ones that get away but I found myself wondering more than usual what kind of bass would be bold enough to chase something this early in the year.  Water was 49-52

I hit Lonestar Sunday afternoon.  Totally different day, clear skies and more wind.  Spinnerbait was useless.  I fiddled around with alot of stuff but a smaller jerkbait around the docks was the best i found.  Warmer water out there, 50-55.

It has been a whirlwind week and a half with the birth of my son, but my wife said "Go fishing on Saturday, my girl friends are coming over." So....where should I go? (within a reasonable drive from Wichita area)

WOOO!

I took the fiancee out to Shawnee to try to catch some trout on Sunday.  Ended up only catching 3 trout but caught a ton of whites on jerkbaits, a few small bass, and snagged a few giant gizzard shad with a ned rig.  Has anyone been out to Melvern recently?  I am just curious what the water temp is.

Bkohlman. There is a Club Tourney on at Butler SFL this weekend. Steer clear. I would say McPherson, or Cowley. Both have great water levels right now.

Corps of Engineers website says today that the temp is 43. I was thinking about going there Friday but I'm not sure the temp will rise much between now and then. I sure wish they would hurry up and get the hot water back on at Coffey County.

If you get out there Friday be sure to post what the temp is.  I really want to get out there but would rather the water be about 50ish.

Meant to say this earlier but congrats on your having a son.  And congrats on getting a day off to relax.

McPherson was on my radar, now I think it is the front runner. It will be my 1st time there, so are there any tips you all could give?

Boat or shore fishing?

Posted

Probably shore, but maybe a partner with a boat.

From shore, your space is a bit limited. There are 4 jetties, and between one of them, and the west feeder is a big submerged tree. There are also some brush reachable from the left jettie at the ramp. Jettie to the right of the ramp has a steep drop 7-8' off the point. Later in the day the shallow flats to the left of the left boatramp jettie will warm. Big bay to the right of tge ramp is a huge flat. Around 8-10' deep. Definately work the wood/brush. The right jettie by the ramp, about halfway on right side of it are few rocks. That rocky bottom extends out 15-20'.

Hope this helps!!

Will do. Still trying to decide between melvern, coffey county (hot water needed), or olathe lake. I'm hoping the warm temps the next couple days will warm the lakes a few degrees.
