Great job again Clayton.  You always seem to be on the big fish!!!

Cbass12 and I got to Lake Shawnee today to chase some of those big trout I've been hearing so much about. Not sure how many we caught but after a slow start we figured them out pretty good and both of us got our limits on top of releasing several each and I got a bonus crappie. Little Cleos were the main bait of choice but we also caught 6 on a Ned rig just to see if we could. My first trout of the day was also my new PB at 5.79 pounds.

One of Ryan's next fish was a pig and his new PB at 6.43 pounds.

I caught 1 over 4, 2 over 5, and Ryan had his monster to round out our 10 fish limit of fish that we kept. That's a 1X8 board in the picture for scale.

My two piggies, the 5.79 pound fish and a 5.41 pound fish.

CCC Drew and I fished La Cygne today. Trolling motor problems were the story of the morning and we still caught a few fish. Once I got the motor going again we headed down lake and I caught a 4.39 pound fish pitching a jig into a laydown.

101_1894_zps509ab017.jpg

Followed up shortly after that with a 17" and 3.09 pounds on a one knocker.

Caught a few more small ones here and there on several different baits but the wind died down and the sun came out and it got tough. I jumped off a good fish at the outlet on a jig that was for sure in the 5 pound range if not larger. Saw some big fish chasing shad near the shore in the outlet so I tossed my 6" swimbait at them. I was reeling it slowly back to the boat and it just got pounded about 10' from the boat and it barely moved when I set the hook. I really thought I may have just stuck a DD bass. Well it was a DD fish, just not a bass. This big ugly thing shot out of the water 2 or 3 times and was a chore to land with no gloves and a net that I didn't want to trash. Just shy of 15 pounds.

Speaking of shy, can you guess who was hiding in the back of the boat when all hell broke loose in the front of the boat? She wasn't quite as scared of the gar once we were on shore with it though.

Did you kill it?

Nope, turned her loose after the pictures. Need it to eat tons of shad so the bass have fewer options so they can eat my baits more often :)

I was hoping to hit la cygne this saturday, but it's looking like there's gonna be a pretty strong wind out of the north. Not exactly prime conditions for out there.

Winds are forecasted to be a little lighter around mound city, and critzer lake runs west to east so there should be a lot of wind protected bank if things get with it. If I can get the boat running out of her winterized state, that's where I'll be headed unless the forecast changes to more favorable conditions.

Yeah I turned the bass loose, but I was talking about the gar. Pretty sure there's enough shad for everyone in that lake.

I packed up the wife and headed to McPherson SFL. Called for west winds and Mac has hood protection from it. Only got 3 good hours of fishing in, and had 3a solid fish to show. First, 16.5" Solid fish. 2nd cast if the day, Pumpkin Jig and Craw. Followed it all the way back to the yak. When I reeled fast to bring it in, about 2ft from the kayak, she nailed it. 2nd fish was another solid, 17". Came on the "N" Rig, and just felt weight on the line. Both these came in 10FOW. 42-43* water temp.

Last one, another "N"Rig fish. Was in 3-4FOW, and just gave a single, tick when she picked it up.

If you aint fished Mac, well worth the trip. 1/3 lake has Reeds/Cattails. Coontail moss beds, sunken trees, rock, and even some water willow tossed in for good measure. At 46 acres, it fishes more like a bigger lake.

Went to Gardner for a couple hours today just to get out and enjoy the weather for the minute it was supposed to last. Water temp was 42 at the dam, 47 at the south end. Caught one dink and missed another at the far south end on a STX jerkbait. Guys on the bank were catching catfish and a couple bass on minnows under bobbers. Highlight of the day was getting a Misty Shad colored 100 Pointer out of tree by someones dock :)  Actually saw a blow up near the bank today where some water runs in from a little pond that was a couple degrees warmer than the rest of the lake, couldn't make it bite a bait though.

Off to brave the north winds on critzer. I'm hoping the water temps are at least in the high 40's. If they're anywhere close to the 50's, I expect a good day. Anyhow, I imagine my buddy and I are gonna freeze. I'll let you all know how things went down when I get back.

well triton and I went to La Cygne today. weather was suppose to be half way decent. lol well mamas was wrong!!! had 20 to 30 mph winds gust that where pretty steady and white caping.  we pulled up and the parking lot was full im thinking oh great a tourny. well there was 2 tournys going on backlashers and another. we started at the bluff wall where we took our number in line lol. but luckly the guys in front of us werent catching fish so we had our shot. i was throwing a rick clunn lucky strike jerkbait and was catching a couple and had a couple on a shaky head and even managed to get one on a crankbait. triton was having a hard time getting one to bite so we ran to a shollow flat by the outlet and fished with 5 other boats and still nothing for him. he said man i think they are restricted from the marina lets go there. made a good point so we go there and still strugling to get the skunk out of the boat. we went to the other side of the point and i got a couple on a jerkbait and shaky head when triton tied on a pointer and got one in his first couple cast. tables turned and i couldnt by a bite. we both started catching them and wanted to get off the water before all the boats came in for weight in would of added and hour or two to our day and the wind was cutting the skin as it blew across the face. but all in all a decent day for the chanllenges that we had.

Fished for roughly four hours on critzer today. The water temps ranged from 42-47.

Things were pretty slow, and I couldn't really get any pattern dialed in. In fact, I only had one bite all day on a spinnerbait.

The cold wind from the north didn't make things any better.

The one fish I did catch was a pretty nice one though at least. I didn't take any measurements or weight, but I did get some pictures snapped.

She had a pretty big fish tail sticking out of her gullet that I tried to get a picture of, but it was a little dark. You can kind of make it out in the second picture.

At any rate, it was better than getting skunked I guess.

At least you got one good one. That first picture reminds me why I haven't been back there though. I'm sure I'll still go back at least once this year with them sampling fish almost to 9 pounds out of there. I doubt I'd ever manage to get it out of all those trees but I'm willing to try :)

Yeah Clayton, it's pretty gnarly. I'd like to think I'll make it back out there at some point this season, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon. I'd like to get on Lacygne while the gettin's still good. After a trip or two there, I'll probably starting trying to figure out perry again and hitting up melvern some.

And shhh, but I have a feeling a big fish is coming out of mound city lake this year and I'm gonna be the one to do it.

Im on spring break right now and plan on going out a couple times this week. I havent decided where I want to go but I know I will be fishing lol. I have a love hate relationship with crytzer I love it because of the big fish I have caught out of there and for some reason I like the fight of getting them out of the trees. I hate it because I have gotten my boat wedged inbetween trees multiple times lol thank god for aluminum boats!

any chance anyone has hit miami lately ive been thinking of going down there sometime this week I always seem to do really well out there.

Never had much success at Miami this early in the year, seems like it really starts to fire up around mid to late April. When I've gone early in the year the numbers are down and most noticeably the average size goes way down for some reason.

What do you normally catch your big fish on at Critzer? A guy at work swears by a jig down there but I haven't been down there since my first time to find out for myself.

I usually catch quite a few on a jig, a texas rigged brush hog in green pumpkin, and beaver style baits. My biggest fish came off of the row of trees right next to the ramp.
