Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 25, 2013 Global Moderator Posted February 25, 2013 Classic was a blast. Didn't spend as much money as I thought I might at the Expo and didn't bother any of the pros there, they were all pretty busy with fans as it was. Chris and I did get to meet and talk with Mr. Steve Parks a.k.a. Big O for a few minutes, real nice guy and he's got some new designs in the oven that I'm excited to see Saw a lot of guys and did get a couple good deals on some baits and a Fish Headz mask. Saw lots of guys on the water, did a little fishing and caught some nice healthy Grand Lake bass. Jon actually caught his new PB at the end of the second day right as it was getting dark, 6.94 pounds on a Pro Blue Rick Clunn RC stick. I didn't have my camera so I'll have to get the pictures from him. She was super fat, only 21.5" long and just shy of 7 and busting at the seams. Scary fight, she had one back hook through a little piece of skin on the under side of her gill cover. Chris had a 4.12 today and I had a limit on a day when 11 of the top 25 of the classic failed to catch a limit. Final weigh in was a neat deal, took quite a bit of video. Not taking the night off from work tonight was poor planning, I've been up since 7am and won't get off until 8am, going to be a long night I'll try to get some pictures and videos up tomorrow. Quote
cbass12 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 You looked a bit like a zombie when I saw you at 8....... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 27, 2013 Global Moderator Posted February 27, 2013 A few pics from the Classic. One of several keeper bass I caught on a jerkbait from Grand. Chris' 4.12lb largemouth he caught right before we went to the final weigh in. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of Jon's 6.94 pounder he caught Saturday. Edwin Evers digging rods out of his rod locker. Mike McClelland joking with the fans before launch. Randy Howell's boat. Dean Rojas giving out baits to kids at the ramp. 1 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 6, 2013 Super User Posted March 6, 2013 Anyone getting out tomorrow ? I think me and Lance are going to try Melvern. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 6, 2013 Super User Posted March 6, 2013 I'm ashamed to say this but I'm going to try to wash the Skunk off, I haven't caught a fish since November!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
KansasBASS9948 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 After the 2 cold days in a row we're suppose to have I wouldn't have very high hopes if I was headed down there. All the zebra mussels pretty much take away most of the real cold water techniques I'd be using. I know the crappie fishermen are catching a few on minnows and crappie tubes though. Welcome to the forum! La Cygne has been really tough lately and it's usually worse on the weekend, especially if it's nice outside. 5 different members that I know of went last week and I think between all of us on 3 different days managed to boat 5 or 6 fish. La Cygne hasn't done well at all lately. Heck even last year main lake didn't produce hardly at all...I did boat a few nice fish up the river though. Here is a hint....old bridge across the river. Doc-Drew Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Anyone getting out tomorrow ? I think me and Lance are going to try Melvern. Make sure to post how you do and the water temp. I have been wanting to try somewhere other than La Cygne. Haven't made it very far up the river yet but I have caught some largemouth and a lot of small whites on the west side. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 7, 2013 Super User Posted March 7, 2013 Cool, will do. It looks like we'll only be able to stay for 3-4 hours but that should give us an idea if they are biting yet Quote

The bridge across the river is one of my most dependable spots. Almost always one right at the base of the bridge every time. I like fishing rattling cranks because you can listen to them hit it. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 7, 2013 Global Moderator Posted March 7, 2013 Well as some of you know already Jon and I did pretty good at La Cygne today. Lots of fish I'd guess close to 40 maybe even more. Most of them were smaller, a couple that were over 16 maybe close to 18". Shakyheads, spinnerbaits, traps, jerkbaits, and cranks all caught their share of fish. The rock bank at the mouth of the river was by far our best area with the last point on the west side almost straight across from the outlet being our best spot,we fished it for probably an hour and caught fish for most of that time. We went down lake around noon but found the water was pretty chilly still so we ran over to hit the boat ramp area. Nothing going on, the wind was blowing pretty hard, and I got my Spro Fat John hung on the rocks. I was cruising up to get it loose and did the bowstring pop with no luck. Next time I went to do it it seemed like my line was moving towards the boat? Hard to tell with boat bucking so hard but then the line did start moving off! I figured a carp or catfish swam into my line until a big, bugeyed gal wallowed on top and shook her head. She pulled and pulled and pulled for the longest time and every time she came up I could see she only had 1 hook in the very tip of her bottom lip. Thankfully she stayed stuck and Jon got her in the net. 7.76lbs, 22" long and 17" around. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 8, 2013 Super User Posted March 8, 2013 Did you get to Melvern today?[/quoteLol, no! The forecast before I went to bed was for 9-10 mph winds but they changed it to 20-30 this morning. Quote
sizzlefry Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 thought about that fish all day at WORK when Chris showed me the pic im jealous Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 9, 2013 Global Moderator Posted March 9, 2013 Took Cassidee out in the boat today at Douglas State Lake because it was way too nice to stay at home. Water was still really cold, colder than I'd hoped. It was 39.5 at the dam, 42.7 in the shallow water at the far north end. Fished a jerkbait and jigging spoon a little but the wind made it pretty hard to fish slowly enough. Got one little guy to play right off the big point in the main lake on a deep running Yo-Zuri jerkbait. Got to go for her first full speed boat ride today too, seemed to enjoy that quite a bit. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 14, 2013 Global Moderator Posted March 14, 2013 Cbass12 and I got to Lake Shawnee today to chase some of those big trout I've been hearing so much about. Not sure how many we caught but after a slow start we figured them out pretty good and both of us got our limits on top of releasing several each and I got a bonus crappie. Little Cleos were the main bait of choice but we also caught 6 on a Ned rig just to see if we could. My first trout of the day was also my new PB at 5.79 pounds. One of Ryan's next fish was a pig and his new PB at 6.43 pounds. I caught 1 over 4, 2 over 5, and Ryan had his monster to round out our 10 fish limit of fish that we kept. That's a 1X8 board in the picture for scale. My two piggies, the 5.79 pound fish and a 5.41 pound fish. Quote
