I've seen enough days where La Cygne was almost impossible to even get a bite. You'll have nice weather so it may be a little crowded with it being nice but at least you won't be fishing in the rain like I will be Thursday.

I'd rather fish in the rain, then in blue bird skies.

Are any of you KC area guys going to be fishing the Mr. Bass tourney on La Cygnes here in March?  I'm thinking about it, but it's a long drive for me.  Never fished the lake, but heard good things about it.

That good huh? I've got everything rigged up for tomorrow, I guess I'll put a couple extra sticks of dynamite in the boat too.

Not even the dynamite worked today :( 2 dinks and I had to use a live shad to catch one of those. Had a couple short strikes on a crankbait and missed 4 on a shakyhead. Had one chase a jig back to the boat and Jon lost one on a spinnerbait that wrapped him up and came off. The other one I caught was on a swimbait.

They had a tournament out at Lacygne so there wasn't much room to fish. I did manage to sneak a 16" in the boat in a spot that a guy abandoned about a minute earlier. I only had one other bite all day.

Man i give you guys credit for getting after em in the winter.  Sounds pretty tough right now.

Thanks to whoever spotted the KDWP Forecast was up last week.  I cleaned up the data a little and made the "winners and losers" reports for LMB lakes. I still had the KDWP 2011 forecast from the last time so I did it to compare which lakes average bass density changed the most since then... for good and bad.

Some of our favorite lakes are on both lists actually

I'm assuming red means a decrease in size/numbers?

These forecasts are always interesting to read but I'm never really sure what to make of them. Like Melvern is rated only fair for smallmouth and the biggest fish they sampled was only 2.79 pounds? I think weather/time of year/areas checked probably have a lot to do with their samples. Since the electrofishing gear only works to about 15 feet deep it always seems like shallower lakes have truer numbers. If they happen to sample a deeper lake on a post cold front day when all the fish drop off into deeper water I couldn't see them getting a very accurate look at the true population of a lake.

I dont put all my stock into these reports for the larger lakes. But for ElDorado to have a decent rating for smallies.... Im intrigued. Gonna have to try my luck a few times.

Yep, red is always bad.

There is definitley alot of luck involved in the sampling and shallow lakes do always seem to do really well, which would make perfect sense if the 'zapper' only works to 15ft.

I pretty much just pay attention to biggest fish and always use the lake's 3 year average for these sorts of comparisons.  And while alot of them make sense (good scoring lakes like Miami DO hold fish), you can also be misled.

I'd say more than anything it's useful to tell you where NOT to go fishing..

That's what I normally pay attention to but I somehow missed that the biggest fish sampled from the "lakes" category was not from Nebo but from Critzer with a fish over 8.5lbs! I wasn't impressed with that lake but if it really has fish like that in it I may have to give it another chance.

Took the dog out in the boat for the first time at Olathe today and fished for about an hour and a half. Water was 42.7-40.6. Fished a shakyhead, jerkbait, and jigging spoon, nada. Guy floating minnows under a bobber caught a decent crappie but that was the only one he'd caught in a couple hours.

I think I got the boat ready for its maiden voyage. I think I'll go to paola tomorrow and see if it'll float.

Wish me luck!

Hey Blue, how'd the dog do in the boat? How old is she?

She did really well, wasn't real excited about getting in the boat at first but after putting her in the boat she took to it pretty fast. She wasn't sure what to think of the big motor at first either but got over that pretty quickly. I bought a smaller dog bed for her that she laid on while I was moving with the big motor and then stood next to me watching the water while I was fishing. She's about 4 months old now and has started to show an interest in the water. She hasn't swam yet but she'll walk into the water without too much coaxing. I'm sure before long I'll be working to keep her out of the water.

My dog just barks at the water, likes to get in while he can touch, after that he freaks a bit. Shelties are made for the rolling farmland, not water. Hahaha
