Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 16, 2012 Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2012 I am down for the 10/20 thingamabobber. My vote is no hillsdale and I think bone creek would be a great spot for this event. Lake has plenty of area for us all to spread out, definitely catch lots of fish and there is a healthy number of keepers. There are also 7 motels/hotels in fort Scott. Bone Creek would be alright but not sure how many guys are willing to pull their boats down all those rutted out dirt roads and then bounce them off the trees all day. Another problem with Bone Creek is that if the bass aren't biting there really is no fall back, everyone is just going to be working their butts off fishing trees all day for a few bites since there aren't any whites or wipers and very few walleye. It can be a fun lake to fish for sure, but if it gets tough like it can be there will be some guys that go home without catching a fish. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 16, 2012 Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2012 So Melvern 10-20? That sounds like it will work for most of the guys that are interested in going. Everyone wanting to fish just send me a PM and let me know and also if you're going to be bringing a boat or not. I'm sure everyone wants to do the cook out afterwards so after I get a headcount we'll figure out who's bringing what. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 16, 2012 Super User Posted September 16, 2012 Me and Peter went to the state lake this morning. To start the day he whooped me from the back of the boat catching 5 fish as soon as he got in the boat to my ZERO! We made our way to another spot on the lake and I started catching a few fish and was trying to make a comeback. He ended up catching this fish and I told him let me get a pic of that it may be the fish of the day! That picture cracks me up. it makes it look like a one pound dink... it was actually a nice fish Worthy of a picture . Anyhow it was a typical day at the state lake, once it hit 9am the fishing shut OFF! I finally told him alright I'm going to get the big rod with the big jig and stop trying to just get a bite . After a couple of casts I drug my jig off a ledge and got a bite. I knew something seemed different this one was peeling line out? Afew seconds later it jumped out of the water and I herd Peter with the quote of the day= " WHO,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,do you have a net?" She played along and went into the boat with no problems. I'll try to look at my pictures but I think this may be the fish I caught earlier this spring. 1 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 16, 2012 Super User Posted September 16, 2012 I tried to compare the pic's back on page 38 but I cant tell if its the same fish. Quote
joefish Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 What State Lake are you fishing? is it Leavenworth by chance? Nice FIsh ! ! I fished Wyco this morning, caught several LMB and a couple smallies but nothing nearly that nice. Quote
Wachati Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Did you have to rub it in by posting my picture, haha...hey I accomplished my goal today, DINKMASTER!!!!! It seems to be a trend. I am beginning to wonder if Clayton and you bring me for my photography skills. Yeah that fish today was a great ending to a slow day, when you said you got one, you didn't imply like it was a fish of any size. So I'm watching you reel it in and as soon as I saw its mouth come out of the water and head shake, I about shat my pants. So yeah I was excited, didn't know how good she was hooked bc you said you didn't get a full set on her. It will be interesting to fish that spot some more. 1 Quote

Now now, if I didn't have my own fish hooked at the time and could have gotten the net I believe you would have put a fish close to that size in the boat the first time we fished La Cygne last year. That one you have looks like a good fish, you just have the fish held at an angle in towards your body so it looks smaller. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 17, 2012 Super User Posted September 17, 2012 Great fish!!!! How much did it weigh? My scales said it weighed less every time we weighed it. Peter's scales said 6.28# It almost made my golden rule disappear. It was around 22'' long Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 17, 2012 Super User Posted September 17, 2012 After some looking I don't this is the same fish as the fish in the bottom pic that I caught earlier this spring. I wonder how many other fish this size are in that pond? Quote
pbrussell Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Well, couldn't find the green (or brown) fish anywhere on perry yesterday. Hunted for them for about 5 hours before I hung it up. Fished marina docks, piers, main lake points (and secondary's), channel bank, bridge rip-rap, and had one bite on a jig. I absolutely smoked the whites though. Texas shad squarebill around bridge rip-rap in rock creek. Some of em probably went over two pounds. Quote

Chris S Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Hey what type of boat do you have? Might have seen you out there today. I was the one with his motor cover off trying to get his flooded motor to start for 2 hours lol. Finally got her going but the fishing went like the rest of the day, frustrating. I have a black LOWE FM165 with White & Blue letters, I did not make it out in the boat this weekend, stayed close to home and fished a few ponds. Glad you got her running!!! Quote
Chris S Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I am good with Melvern for the 20th! With gas at $4 a gallon almost anything close is good by me!!! Quote

Doubt that your gonna be able to compare pics... now that you've got an on-board photographer your pics are getting much better Quote
retro basser Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Got nothing that exciting to report but good news i guess for anyone wondering about Lonestar. My buddy took his ski boat out there last wednesday and I tagged along a little early to throw a line before our friends came out... For what little fishing we got done off of that boat they sure did cooperate. Lot of healthy small bass in the dink range but even better the keeper i caught was fat and healthy looking. I've talked to old salts out there on the dock that say the 3+ pounders are back as well... It's a long way off from being a great bass lake, but hopefully they've shrugged off the bass virus and the younger fish are starting to grow again.. Caught this one in the spring and I know for a fact it didn't go #2 and I was surprised because it was an 18in bass: This is the one from last week a full two inches shorter but weighed about the same... It was more like you'd expect on a healthy lake.. Quote
Doc-Drew Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Hey congrats Salenity on the nice fish! Maybe this is a sign that the will start biting again at the state lake. My fiancee and I are planning on going camping Friday-Sunday for my birthday. The problem is, I have only fished once since the end of July so I am not really sure on where to go. I would like to try the pits at some point but I dont know when would be a good time to go down there. If anyone has any recommendations rather than the pits, let me know. Quote
pbrussell Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Forgot to attach a picture. Here's the size of the whites I was catching yesterday. Despite not finding the green fish, it was still pretty fun to be whacking whites this size. 1 Quote

I'm assuming you're talking about the pits down south around Columbus? The nice thing about them is lots of different bodies of water close by so if they aren't biting on one you can always hop to the next one. There's some really big fish in some of them, but there's lots of little fish in most of them. Quote

Blue, you gave me some info on tips about the pits but looking at them I really don't know where to set up camp. When you went down there, where did you stay? Also, if anyone else has advice on the pits, feel free to share. It is much appreciated. Quote

I had people to stay with in Pittsburg and then we just drove to the pits each day. I'm sure you could find a hotel in Pittsburg to stay in if you didn't want to camp, getting pretty chilly at night now. The trout pit has some really cool little cabins you can rent but I doubt they have an opening this close to the date you're going to be there. If you're going to camp I'd probably do it on one of the ones just outside Pittsburg or one of the ones right by West Mineral. Quote
