I made it back from Paola. It was a typical day for me at that lake. Below are pic's of the fish I caught that were over 12"

Went out today to DGCO this morning cause I felt like catching a bunch and ended up catching 4 or something... All I know is i caught more little 4in redears than bass. Those little buggers were active. It was 72 and the water was the clearest i've ever seen on a KS lake. I could see a white jig off the bottom 15 ft down. I saw alot of beds... all empty, guess it's time to figure out what to fish post-spawn...

Most of the strikes i got were quick at best and I guess i just didnt have my game on i got caught snoozin on more than a few. Most of the bass were suspending at 10-12ft over relatively deep water. The only pattern i guess i found was running a mid-diving crank over a shelf about 12 feet deep close to the channel. Most of the time they would just barely slap at it but you could catch em when they got tangled up by accident.

Blue: Thanks for the good write-ups of Milford and that Nebo-Perry 1-2 punch that's an solid 2 lake day right there... Crazy about that 2nd bass jumping in the net. Wonder if that counts in a tourney? (when the cameras arent rolling of course) That chatterbait is tearing them UP. Knew i should have bought the dark color on mine but i sprung for the chartruse-white.

Salenity: That saugeye is pretty freaky looking. The whole thing looks pre-historic even the colors. Thought your camera was on LSD again but it's only the fish :)

Haven't posted here much, but have been looking. I would be interested in getting in a paper tournament. I used to do that with a group of guys who posted on Daves Country, it was a lot of fun and plenty of BS at the end. I haven't got a regular fishing partner any more so meeting some one to fish with could be a plus. I fish WYCO quite a bit, Clinton and Perry (espically when the crappie bite is on).

So right now it looks like myself, Hi Salenity, retro basser, joefish, and ks cranker would be interested in a paper bragging rights team tourny at Melvern on the 10th from 6am to 3pm with a cook out afterwards? Lets get this off the ground, anyone who wants to be there send me a PM and I'll get a list put together. If you've got a boat you could bring and would have room for someone else let me know and we'll pair everyone up. You guys that I listed go ahead and send me a PM too just to verify you want to/can be there.

OH forgot to mention that June 10 won't work for me, I will be on Rainy Lake in Ontario Canada from June 9 through June 16.

Has anyone around here been up to Harrison County Lake in Bethany lately? I have a tournament in the morning and I have never been there before. My father in law has been 2 times before but not this year at all. It is suppose to be in the 80s tomorrow with a pretty good south wind.. I think they are calling for 20mph or so.

Any tips or ideas?

Thanks

Kyle

Never even heard of it. I'd probably keep a crankbait or spinnerbait in my hand if I could get a bite on one in that kind of wind. I'd try one of those coves, the first drop by spawning areas will probably have quite a few fish either moving up or coming out depending on the water tempature. Good luck and let us know how you did!

Ok guys it's been brought to my attention that for some of you that are planning on being at the bragging rights tourny at Melvern it may be your first tournament and may not know proper ettiquette. I'll do the drawing a week before so you can get in touch with your partners so you can run through some of it because some things will be the boaters preference, like how much gear to bring. Mainly, as we all know, gas is expensive. Some of the boaters may be spending 75-100 dollars between the truck and boat, maybe more with the cost of boat oil if you run a lot. In most tournaments the co-angler will chip in for some of the gas expenses and I know all the boaters, myself included, would appreciate the help with gas, even $25 or $30 helps a lot and is way cheaper than you could rent a boat or get a guide for a day :eyebrows: If there is anyone with any questions or suggestions just let me know. Pretty small group right now with several guys not having Sundays available or having other plans but should still be a good time even with a smaller group and maybe we can get another one set up for the fall and plan ahead further to make it easier for more people to show up.

Ended up having a wonderful tournament today! We ended up with 5 fish for 16.87 lbs.. Not too bad. First place was 21lbs. We got a few keepers right out of the gate and had 3 in the boat in 30 minutes. We hit the first cove with some timber in it and caught them on wacky rigged senko style baits. Once the wind picked up we picked another nice one on a spinnerbait. We ended our day in another cove out of the wind and caught a few more nice ones on the wacky rig and a t-rig crawdad. All but one of our keepers came out of less that 2ft. of water. Our biggest was 4.86lbs. I can't even begin to count how many shorts we caught, it seemed like we went through a spell and couldn't buy one over 14".

Sounds like a good day to me! I almost suggest tossing a swimbait, sounds like it would have been a perfect day to do it with them biting good and the windy conditions.

I am in will head down Saturday to set up camp and fish a little since I have neve even seen Melvern. I have a 2010 Lowe FM165 and who ever gets me as a partner we can figure out what to split etc and if your up for camping we can fish Saturday and even Monday!

Who else is planning to head down Saturday and camp?? If my partner cant make it Saturday, someone else is more than welcome to jump in the boat!

PS: I drink enough beer on land so no need to drink it in the boat :eyebrows:

I'll be down Saturday. I'm not sure if I'm bringing my boat or my enclosed trailer to camp in. I'm leaning toward the boat.

Flash's buddy is bringing his boat and they're going to fish together and Retro is bringing his I believe so we may have an extra boater if we don't have anyone else decide they want to go. If that's the case I'm sure I can find someone else that wants to go that isn't a memeber.

Well the wife and I just got back from Table Rock and Big Cedar Lodge last night. It was a lot of fun but the fishing was pretty tough. One of my homemade jigs caught most of my fish, followed by a shakeyhead, splitshot rig, spook, and squarebill. First day I had 3 keepers, second day I had a small limit, 3rd day we went to Bull Shoals and I caught a small limit again on squarebills and jigs.

Wasn't catching a bunch but the ones that were hitting the jig were killing it! This keeper spot tried to swallow my jig.

Chunky largemouth.

Nicole's white bass on a ned rig. She caught a smallmouth on it too but only took a picture with her phone.

Keeper largemouth on a spook.

My biggest from Table Rock ate a jig. My scale said 3.2lbs but it looked bigger in person and in the picture. Healthy fish either way.

Keeper spot on a KVD 1.5 from Bull Shoals.

10" warmouth that ate my 3/8oz jig in a brushpile.

One of the highlights of the trip. They had the Oakley Big Bass Tour going on this weekend and the weigh in was at Big Cedar. I knew about all that going on, I didn't know that KVD was going to be there. I was casually unhooking my boat at the ramp and I just looked up at the stage and instantly recognized him standing by the side of the stage talking to a couple other guys that were assisting with weigh in. I told my wife and we had to go say hi real quick. He was nice enough to let us get a couple pictures and he gave me a Oakley Big Bass Tour hat and signed it for me.

Anyone been to Melvern lately? I am heading there next week with my brother in law. Any info is appreciated. Is spawn over? We went once last summer but it was right in the middle of that 2 week stretch where it was 100+ every day. Thanks

Well now we have:

Chris S+friend

Retro-boater

Hi Salenity-either

Flash+friend

kanasbassfisher08-nonboater

Bluebasser86-boater

Watachi-nonboater

So we're back where we started I guess :laugh5:

If we could get another boater it would be good.

I'll bring my boat and a friend and we should all be good ?

That would work fine. Since we only have 2 boaters/nonboaters that aren't already paired I'll probably just have Retro/kanasbassfisher08 paired and Watachi/me. Kanasbassfisher08 (Chris) and I have fished Melvern together a few times so he knows the lake a little bit and can help Retro with where to fish and what to use. To my knowledge Watachi has never fished Melvern so I can try to teach him a couple things about it and it's plentiful smallmouth :eyebrows:. If any of you guys that have never fished Melvern has any questions about it feel free to PM me or if they're questions that you think everyone should know the answer too just post them on here and I'll be glad to answer them. I'm by no means an expert on the lake but I have fished it a bunch of times.
