TxGator Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 So is anybody able to find a fish? Sat morning couldnt buy a bite. Caught 10 on Rayburn fri night. Maybe i need to try fishing at night on Toledo G Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I love night fishing on Toledo...but I have had the chance to do it this year. I wont be able to get back up there until September for the fall bite, but I would imagine that fishing humps in 12-15 FOW at night would be the way to go. And, dont EVER pass up a lighted pier! TxGator Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Hope you Louisianna boys are ok, maybe this storm will put a bit of water back in the lake though. Cant wait to get back up there, hopefully in a couple of weeks. G Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 We didnt get the rain and winds expected here in central LA. It actually turned out to be not much worse than a normal thunderstorm. Now down in Slidell/New Orleans area...they got pounded! Praying for all the families down there. Quote
BulletDon Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Hope all is well with everyone. Headed to Toledo next week, anyone got a report or what the fish are doing? Quote
six-mile C-Rig Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 hey guys, gotta a report from the Bend. Potential hurricane cancelled work, so i went and fished Wednesday 8/29. Started out the day on a deep ridge very close to the main lake (30mph winds out of the north kept me off any main lake). Graphed over the spot and only saw a few fish. I decided to fish it anyway, and after 30 minutes without a bit i left. (fished with deep cranks, fb jig, c-rig, drop shot) Went to a decent sized flat and fished hydrilla in 13-15 fow. This spot is usually good for numbers but after nearly an hour, only produced 1 dink. (drug the c-rig around to get the 1 bite) Moved to a large point with scattered hydrilla on top and a drop-off into a deep creek channel. Graphed over it and saw a small school hanging near the drop. fished this area for 30 minutes with no takers. (again, cranks, c-rig, drop shot, and spoon) Kind of confused about what the fish were doing, i headed way back into the creek and fished several shallow humps (10-12 fow) which are scattered around several creek channel intersections (25 fow). Graphed over this area and found LOADS of fish suspened in the creek channels, fish were hanging between 14-17 feet deep. Also saw a good amount of baitfish in the area. I figured these fish weren't catchable, and most likely werent LMB but fished anyways. Fished for 30 minutes, caught 1 white, and a dink large mouth on a crank. I threw some other stuff but no takers. i scratched my head, and decided to do what i hate the most and started beating the banks and covering water. After a little while, i got on a run of fish very shallow. I got 5 fish, 3 keepers and the biggest was nearly 4lb, all in a 100 yard strech and within 20 minutes. All of these fish were in less than 9 fow in the grass, caught them on spinnerbait and sq.bill crank. I figured the area had alot more fish, so i recovered the area, multiple times with spinnerbait, sq.bill, texas rig, and attempted to get a light weight fluke out there but the wind was just too much. No more fish from this area. Continued covering water with spinner and crank for another hour and a half and only caught 1 more fish. So, in conclusion, i never really got a pattern figured out. I hope this helps. BTW i spent the whole day in 6mile. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Me and Wdycrankbait are heading up there next Saturday...was thinking about going to Six Mile, but after reading your report, I may stay further north by the bridge and if that dont work out then head south in the evening. Quote

Anyway, any pointers for TB, feel free to PM me. Prayers or with CATT, sure do miss his insight. This winter we need to pick up our online class' with the CATT !! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I agree!! We need Catt...he knows that place better than anyone. When is the Oilman's? Im heading up there this Saturday and might could help you out some. Quote

BulletDon Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 yes, headed that way for basschamps, will be leaving thursday. Sounds like it is going to be a grind for sure. Is the oilmans tourney this weekend as well? If so, going to be more than a few boats out there. be careful. were is the oilmans tourney going out of? Thanks for all the information and good luck to all. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 DANG! The one weekend Im heading up there we have a Basschamps AND Oiliman's going on...lake is going to be packed! Quote
fishingcajun Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 All, the oilmans is usually always out of cypress bend, however i did not personally register for the tournament. I just spoke to my buddy on the lake. they have been fishing all morning without a bite. They are fishing some grass beds in Pirates Cove, says its beautiful, fishing 12-20' water, and nothing. Tried a good wind blown point, nothing. Needless to say i am a little worried, since my last trip was a bust. Tempted to shallow in the hottest part of the day and try a little topwater and weightless senko. I wish i had to deep water humps, but everything i checked in July was empty. Good luck in the basschamps skeeterdon. Quote
BulletDon Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Thanks everyone. Just got a call from Jeff at BassChamps. Going to have a camera man in our boat Saturday. We also have an interview Friday at 6 PM. I am so pumped. Nothing like being put on the spot, hahah, and I love the pressure, hell I feed off of it. Talk to you all after the tourney, probably sometime Monday. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Goodluck Don!! Im pullin for ya. Quote
BulletDon Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Well, we really suck it up this year. Weighed 3 on Sat and 3 on Sunday. Tough for us for sure. Reports wer that a lot of fish caught on topwater and we could not get a consistent topwater bite. May have been fishing the wrong area. One of the finishers threw them all day long. Oh well, good times though, lake is looking good though. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I was up there for an hour or so Saturday until the wind picked up and blew us off our main lake humps....didnt really feel like getting in the creeks and fighting all the boats, so I loaded up and went to Black Lake lol. We didnt get bit the hour we fished tho. Quote
TxGator Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Hope ya have better luck next time. Its been tough from what i hear. Dads neighbor Ronnie fishes a lot of Tourneys and usually does pretty good. Hes has had a hard time lately and they live on the lake so they can fish a lot. Hopefully i can make it up this weekend, I want to try my new (to me) boat out. It ought to be perfect for Toledo, its an old Broadhead aluminum boat. 3/16" aluminum, ought to be perfect to beat on the stumps with. G Quote
BulletDon Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Good Luck and congrats on the new to you boat. Quote
fishingcajun Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Well guy's. finished up the Oilman's, and did pretty good considering we only practiced half a day Thursday. Friday we caught early on topwater and weightless worms in 3-4' water. This was a drain I picked out on my map and decided to try. we had four keepers for 7am, all around 14-15". We finished out the day working crankbaits around bridge pilens and a couple of deep humps next to creeks. Weighed 11+ lbs. Friday. We had to scratch our early morning shallow bite Saturday and opted to trailer to our deeper bite. We caught more fish Saturday, but could not get the kicker fish to help us out. We only weighed 9+ lbs Saturday. Weighed a limit both days, probably caught upwards of 30+ 14" fish both days and i dont know how many total. We also caught a boat load of white bass. All in all not bad for not having fished in a couple of months. Finished 33rd Friday, 45 Sat. and 30 place overall. Decided to fish the next oilmans in two weeks. Oh, forgot made a check both days and an overall check as well. Quote
