Dam Yankee Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I treat everyone out there like I want to be treated. Last time I was out a few weeks ago another boat ran right over to my Crig after seeing I caught a fish and started fishing. Directly on top of where I was casting to. These incidents are few but, I just wondered about the rest of y'all. Couldn't catch anything of size today. Topwater in grass was good till about 0830 in toro. I think I caught every kentucky in the lake today offshore. Hopin for a better tomorrow. Quote

Yes it does. I may not have worked it as good as I should have but I didn't get a bite on my usual points which to my surprise, were unoccupied when the sun got up. i then woked three different humps off shore 20 -25 ft. I haven't fished these humps since the lake was down and it was shallower. That's when I stared to get a bite other than topwater. Odd thing is only thing I got bit on was a C-rig senko. Them darn kentuck's had me fooled for a while thinkin I had somethin good! I still enjoyed my day though. Caught a pretty big crappie too. I figured with all that I was bound to get a good bite sometime but, not today. And....maybe I did get a big bite and didn't know it as the bite seemed very suttle. I finally remembered hooksets were still free! Quote
back water Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Looking forward to the reports on how ya'll done in the Big Mac tournament??? Quote
back water Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I guess not!!!! I thought we had a couple to the regulars that were fishing it. Quote
fishnla Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 I sat this one out I was kinda hoping someone here would tell us how it was. Quote
Dam Yankee Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Well....for me it was a repeat of my first day. Caught fish. Just couldn't catch anything to weigh. Sat and Sunday was the biggest turn out from what I could tell when looking at all the boats on the water. You had to have a backup plan to the backup plan to the backup plan because chances are where you wanna fish is already taken. I didn't worry about the money and just went and fished where I could fish and tried to enjoy my time on the lake. I think all the results are posted on the sealy site. Quote
BulletDon Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 That is the best approach to take Yankee, and if the lord blesses you with a good weigher then so be it, otherwise he has blessed you with those days to fish. Quote
Dam Yankee Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Thanks Don. I am not that good of an angler but, I learn some more every time I go. This is probably the 5th tournament I have fished on the bend since I started in late 07 after I retired from the Army. I'll figure this stuff out one of these days!! What makes me feel better is a lot of good anglers I know didn't get a check either. I figured this one was a better chance for me cause I only got to catch one and not catch five keeprs which is rare for me without a partner. I have also learned a lot from this thread. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I didnt get to fish it...I had a wedding Saturday, so that means rehearsal Friday night, wedding Saturday, and church Sunday. Oh well, maybe next year. I havent been up there in a few weeks due to other tournaments around here. Cant wait to get back up there tho! Quote
back water Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Has anyone heard from Catt?????? Wondering how is back was doing. Quote
fishingcajun Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Sorry, I am late with my McDonald's report. We have been really busy at work this week. Fished all three days. My best hole in practice produced a 5.2, my back up hole in practice produced a 3.5 and 4.5. Day-1, 6am-9am caught 2.0,2.4,2.8,3.02,3.4,3.8, dropped 5+, 4.12, 4.22. Plus 6-7 13-14 " fish. Made the run to weigh the 4.22, got beat with 6 min left. Brother was on same hole, and dropped a 5+. Bite really dropped off with traffic later, and had many drive by anglers, its hard to hide when you are catching fish that quality. Had one - I suspect BFL angler who couldn't take the pressure and finally found him on the hole the next morning with a buoy marker and cranking away. Long story short. Hit that hole a few more times Saturday and Sunday , with no luck. Pressure drove them off of the spot. I did pull up one time and caught about 7 in a row up to 3# on crank bait, then they disappeared again. My backup hole did not produce but two dinks. Thats how my weekend went. Shout out to ***atic for the tip on a spot, did not get a chance to work it. The community, next town over, and a couple of out of state community's all were camped out on it, I suspect that much traffic and its location probably spooked the big-ins anyway. Early bite was on 1/2 ounce Stanley chart/white spinner bait, single colorado blade, white bass and short fish will pound this around the willows on islands and humps for about 30 min. Then worked deeper water with Zoom Ol Monster Red Bug worm Texas rigged, my quality fish came on the worm bite. When wind died to nothing, did some dropshotting with Zoom Trick worm in Red bug, rigged traditional and wacky, and also a Zoom finesse worm in Gourd Green. Caught all three days at times on a KVD 6 Sexy Shad, problem was weeding through the white bass bite, however never caught anything over 2.5 on crank bait. That was my trip !! Quote

six-mile C-Rig Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Anybody fishing the Everstart Series, next Thursday - Saturday??? I'm fishing as a CO-angler.. and will be at the camp all week to prefish and fish the tourney.. hope to see ya'll there.. Quote
fishingcajun Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Six mile, I have been debating to fish or not. I had some really good fish located, but the Mcdonalds really killed my areas. Tried to stay mid lake and close to weigh-in, and so did another 1000 boats, but thats fishing !! I know as of a week ago, i got an email, there was still some openings. Just cant afford to drop $ 800. bucks at this time. If i had not already fished and Everstart and a couple of BFL's as a co-angler, i would not hesitate, its a good learning experiance. Good luck and hope you draw someone familiar with the lake, or should i say someone that can teach you something new, that will benefit you, if you should happen not to finish in the money. Hint: The spinner bait will get you heads early, but the Ol Monster will get you studs later. If you partner is fishing a lot of bridge pilings, fish a drop shot behind him, wacky style, with a green gourd trick worm. I finished in the money at a super BFL on toledo a couple of years ago. six-mile C-Rig Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 thanks, cajun... my thinking IS MOST LIKELY FLAWED, but i've been throwing around ideas in my head that i want somebody who doesn't know the lake, and might use some of my spots if his aren't producing... i fun fished thursday evening, only hit 3 spots, only fished from 5-815 and my best 5 (i only had 10 total) were around 16.5lbs... now im hoping those holes will produce earlier in the day when i'll need them, but im not really counting on getting to fish them... so MAYBE just maybe, someone who isn't familiar with the lake may use a spot of mine, since i fish this lake in excess of 50 times a year. well that's at least what im hoping.... now, in all honesty im really only fishing this event to try to learn from a ""pro"".. maybe see if i'm overlooking something out here on the bend, or see if they might try something i had never thought to throw here, and if it works, i'll employ that technique in the future... fishing 1 lake so often people tend to get caught up doing the same 4-5 techniques in the same holes... so i'm definitly looking to learn something.... how great would it be to get paired up with tommy martin, jim tutt, todd castledine... the biggest delimma i have is trying to decide what tackle to bring in my bag... i bought a tackle bag that holds 7 (9"X14") boxes, and 5 sippered pockets to stuff other stuff in... I'm gonna try to be out of the way of the ""pro"" so i'm thinking only 5 rods, that's i'll have to use multiple techinques with the same rods, so im going to leave my normal drop shot setup (which i don't use very often) at the camp, if i need to drop shot, i'll just do it on a baitcaster instead of my spinnin rod... My A-rig rod loaded with 65lb braid is going to have 3 uses, arig - frog - and c-rig ( i keep pre-tied leaders in a box, Jig rod, Crankbait rod and topwater... life jacket, drinks/snacks, rejuvenade, culling clips, spare reel already spooled up incase i backlash the hell out of one, spool of line, general fishing tools... and looking at the weather i won't need rain suit... am i forgetting anything??? Quote
fishingcajun Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I don't use a spinning real for drop shot. I have one, but it never comes out of the box. Sounds like you have it covered. I brought five rods, and about the same on the tackle boxes. It's all in the luck of the draw!!. You might draw someone who is fishing for the learning experiance and has the extra cash to fish as a boater, and might not mind fishing your spots. Talk to him at the meeting the night before, of course if you draw Tommy or Todd, you probably can sit back an enjoy !! I got lucky once and had Glenn Freeman for a day, this is his time of the year, really good at deep water fishing. Cross your fingers and hope you don't draw a local that has tree's out, unless of course he gives you equal time at trying to catch your fish. I know they spend a bit more on the entry fee, and the cost of fishing a tournament circuit. Just to clarify I am talking only of someone that fishes one tournament on their home lake, there are a few who do this, and all you have to do is look back at the pairings from previous years and see how the co-angler faired!! But its the chance we all take. Good luck with the tournament, FISH SLOW!' if possible. Quote
Dam Yankee Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Yesterday I caught a few that had this small worm in the top of their mouth. Never seen that before. Anyone else ever seen this before? Quote

back water Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I have never seen any worms before, what did they look like??????????? A little tiny grub?? Did they appear to be only in the roof of the mouth?? Were they in more than one fish?? Quote
