BulletDon Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 been away awhile and not just got caught up on all the posts. lots of fish being caught Catt, glad you are back with us. Who all is fishing the Big Bass Splash on the big Bend? Good luck to you all. I attempted Rayburn's and lost one over 8. But that fishing. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Well, got on the lake a little later than I wanted to yesterday. Didnt get there until noon. Fished until 7:00. Lets just put it this way...I whacked em! Top 5 went 35lbs. I figure I caught close to 300 fish yesterday, about half whites and half blacks. Biggest fish went 8.5lbs along with two 7's and two 6's, not to mention all the other 4-5lb fish. PM me for details, dont really want to put too much info out there for everyone in the world to see...I'll have 500 boats on me next week. By far, the best day of my life! Wdycrankbait got to see a few of them. I will try to get some pics later if I can. Yeah, the ones I saw were REALLY NICE! I am surprised he could lift his arms after all those bass. Great Job Bass_Fanatic!!! Quote
fishingcajun Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I will be fishing the Mcdonald's on TB. Fished the Rayburn tournament. Didn't catch a keeper in 3 days. But I also stayed offshore, except for a couple of hours flipping bushes, was tuff for me. Didn't see another angler catch a keeper fish around me in 3 days. Fished out of Shirely Creek, St. Augustine, and Mill Creek Park. Quote
BulletDon Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 wll good luck to you fishingcajun, hope you can at least cash a check. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I may be at the MacDonalds Tx. I have been on some good fish the past 2 weeks, so Im thinking about giving it a shot. I just really dont want to fight the crowds. I went back to Toledo Wednesday and Thursday and the fish were still there thick! Wednesday I could see them all over my graph, just couldnt get em to bite. Ended up with 22 fish. Caught on jigs, deep diving cranks, and A-rig. Thursday I got back on em around 3:00 and fished until dark. Finally found a school willing to bite and I caught 80 fish with one 7lber and two 4lbers. The rest were just chuncky 2-3lb fish. Same pattern. Deep diving cranks and an A-rig. It was too windy to fish a jig, I had to run my 101lb thrust Minn Kota on 90 all day just to stay put.\ Good luck to yall who are fishing the MacDonalds! Quote
BulletDon Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 well if you look at the stats on Rayburn, a 4lbr will get you a check every time, heck, you should enter, the bend is bigger than rayburn and we had 2904 entries, so about 1400-1500 boats, remember there are bank fisherman as well and I never ran into anyone, guess that is why I did not have any weighers LOL, Quote
back water Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 What is the magic depth to get bit????????? Quote
Ranger Jim Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 ***atic Have you been in Carrice Creek lately? Quote

Man I've been wanting to get back in the Magee Flats. I caught some schoolers there a couple weeks ago. Look for schools of fish on the main lake point on the north side of the flats and on the humps just south. They are there...I promise! Quote

hobo1616 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Yeah they are usually there this time of year. What time of day was it? I have caught them there alot but it has usually been right after daylight. Quote
BulletDon Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 You all are great, I wish I could go, heck would be nice if we all three hooked up. Quote
hobo1616 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Mayde it to the Bend this weekend. Saturday morning fished from 6 40 till 9 30 had 10 legal fish no large fish biggest was about 2.5. Went back out around noon and struggled. Same story Sunday morning had 11 legal fish by 9 around the same size. Fish came on senkos with a light weight, spinners, and a square bill. Quote
back water Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 We had an 11 boat team tournament out of Lowe's Creek this past weekend. Winning stringer for 2 half days of fishing was 25+ lbs. Sat. they had a nice 5.81 kicker. My team came in 3rd with 14.90 lbs. I followed Catt's thread and tried to fish all the main lake points going out of Lowe's Creek. The wind was just terrible both days. Our luck was just like Hobo, 2.5 lbs. was max. and most were between 14 and 15 inches. We caught fish on T-rigs, spinner baits, square bills, and frogs early. Allot of small fish caught. Keep a tight line. Dutch Quote
Jcfreak Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Wow, what a thread! I started reading this on my Iphone late last week and had to move over to the computer to read faster, just got to the end. I hadn't been on this site in 7-8 years. THANK YOU, CATT!! I wish I could suck your brain out and put it into a database. You are an asset to this sport, this lake and people around you. I'd like the share a boat with you one day! PS I love the not so subtle hints. I fished the McDonalds tourny last year and had never been on the lake. I'm working in Leesville and had gentleman tell me about a spot down by the dam and about Housen. He has a lake house on Southside of Caney Creek aka pirates, aka armyrec....(my assumptions). Why are there 2 Caney creeks? We caught fish from the moment we started, every place we tried, every bait we tried, every depth we tried. We fished from 6:00-8:00 Friday and Saturday, and till quit time on Sunday. We caught them all day long......Just not enough size. We didn't cash a check and has left a sour taste in my mouth ever since. We caught a couple that were close but with the horrible winds, didn't make the run or were bumped. After reading where Catt started the lesson and disecting where and how we fished, we were close. Not close enough. We tried to fish several of his suggestion, but the waves were way to high. Our best fish were caught in Housen and Sandy. I know a hour winner that was in Indian Mounds. I brought my boat to work with me and will get to prefish this year. Wife looked at me funny pulling the boat to "work". Oh...she knows!! Where is Sammy Gill....I know the name has changed. Thank you all for the amazing amount of info. I have had the paper map out for 5 days. Acmemapper is plastered from the very first way point....plus a few. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Sammy Gill is actually Sam Maguel. It is north of the Pendelin bridge just north of Lanan and south of 1215 on the LA side of the lake. Im going back Wednesday again to see if my fish are still there. Debating on that MacDonalds tx... Quote
Jcfreak Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 That is funny....my mistake. I have been up there. Didn't get to spend much time as the sun was going down. Low water, new lake and no Qbeam....not a good combo. Sounds like you have them penned up. I hope they hold up for you. I had a day like you described on Richland-Chambers back in 89-90. Prefrontal, we killed them on chrome/blue rattle traps. Probably 350-400 in 4 hours. Had an 8.5 for bb that day. Several doubles with 3 or 4's on front and back hooks. I was the day of a lifetime. We were prefishing for the next day. Blanked in tournement. Took my thumbs 2 weeks to recover. I think there is some kind of bacteria in their mouth that prevent skin from going!!! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Yea thats definatly a once in a lifetime trip!! My fish have been fairly consistant, though not 300 a day lol, but I think they should hold there pretty heavy for a few more weeks. Im hoping they hold till May 18-20th haha. Quote
