fishnla Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Catt I've been watching the launches on the Calcasieu for 2 weeks or so and they were closed till like Monday i think, but they are open now. Quote
fishnla Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 If anyone does good today let me know, I just got off the phone with my partner and he is having a hoorible day. I dont know how but he hasn't had a bite all day. Just curious if its that bad or he is just not doing it right. He says he has tried everything but I dont know. I'll be there tonight so hopefully if it was that bad it will get better by morning. Quote
back water Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 All you Toledo Bend regulars keep up your great posts. I have a small club tournament out of Lowe's Creek on April 28th and 29th and need all the help I can get. Thanks Dutch Quote
Dam Yankee Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 fishnla, are they allowing boat traffic on the Calcasieu? Yankee, you fishing east or west of Fin-N-Feather? If you start at the buoy out in front of F-N-F heading west, at the 2nd or 3 rd buoy looking left/south you will notice where stumps start (@ least when the water was lower). I start here in 15' of water and work west for the next 2 points. Has anyone tried the flat straight across from F-N-F? I started at the point just to the east of FNF and continue to work east. Never went up to the bank. i wanna fish Fort Polk spring open tournament out of army rec later this month but, at this rate i don't see it happening. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 6, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 6, 2012 Yankee, as you past the cove to Fox's & between first & second buoys watch your depth & then between second & third buoys do the same. You should notice humps in between the buoys, drop a marker circle it. Position your boat in fifteen foot on the north (deep water) side & throw a T-rig! Quote
Dam Yankee Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I worked the heck out of that area. Traps spinners trig crig. I was in the boat lane fishing. Worked that area pretty well. I went all around it. I threw a c-rig but not a texas rig. Thanks for the tip! Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 6, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 6, 2012 While that area may not produce now keep it in mind as your tournament approaches, a lot will change between now & then. Quote
fishingcajun Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Launched at Bison yesterday morning and crossed to Siepe. Fished 9am to 6pm. Boated about 20 or so fish with 7 decent keepers, up to 3#. Missed several fish and dropped another keeper at the boat. All caught in the bushes with watermelon red baby brush hog, dipped the tail. Two fish had eggs. Did not have any luck off of the bank, but I also did not give it much time. My brother is fishing White Oak today, hope to have a report tomorrow. It will be a couple of weeks before i make it back. congrats Catt on the 9+ Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 7, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 7, 2012 Great report cajun, aint been that far north in a while! Y'all be safe out there HAPPY EASTER & MAY GOD BLESS Quote
six-mile C-Rig Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 No appology needed catt... Most of the fish have spawned, just not all... now for report... fished tuesday-friday. Fished every morning from 6:30 - 12, spend parts of each day in 6mile, housen, ind.mounds, toro/pirates, and slaughter.. Caught decent numbers everywhere except toro... 80% of the fish i caught were in the 12-18 foot range. All the rest were caught on spawning flats in 3-5 fow. All fish came on cranks, and A-rig, most on cranks though. Now, most of the fish i caught were post spawn, and a few still spawning, and 1 fish for sure pre-spawn. the pre-spawn fish i caught was thursday near ind.mounds, in 20 fow and was FULL of eggs. Didnt' catch any real big ones, lots of fish in the 2-3 range. Did get a nice 6lb post-spawner though. Quote
Buckjunkie Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Hello all! New member here. Heading yo Toledo Bend next weekend. Staying at Holly Park Marina. Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction. I was there a month ago and had to cut trip short due to weather. Looking for some places to try not too far from Patroon. Will appreciate any tips, info. Thanks and have a great weekend! Quote
justbass Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 fished six-mile housen and mcgees today with no success.fished from 2fow-21fow with jigs and trigs, the few fish we caught up shallow was on swimbaits. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 7, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 7, 2012 Buckjunkie, check previous pages we covered the Patroon area. Justbass, buzzbait after dark Quote
Buckjunkie Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Buckjunkie, check previous pages we covered the Patroon area. Justbass, buzzbait after dark Thanks. I'll take a look. Would Carrice Creek be worth looking at? I see it isn't too far from Patroon. Apparently I'm fishing the wrong part of the lake. Every post I see is about Housen or Six Mile. The first time I went to Toledo Bend, we stayed in the midlake area and that's all I know. Quote
six-mile C-Rig Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 north of the bridge can be great, i just don't know it that well, if i did i'd help ya out... But patroon did produce a 14.62 earlier in the year, so i wouldn't count it out.. Quote
fishnla Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Buckjunkie, I camp by Carrice Creek and this not the year to come here. Normally its good but this year its definately not. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Well, I just got back. Fished Friday evening and all day Saturday. Caught 56 bass and 87 barfish. 51 of the 56 bass were caught on a Arig in 13 fow with grass. Caught a few good ones on the sucken bridge back in Carrice Creek and found about 1.9 million barfish schooling out where the main river channel swings next to the humps at the mouth of Carrice. Fished Magee Flats and Six Mile and caught 25 of the bass down there (all on Arig). Seems the best grass in in 12-15 fow. Any shallower and its bare and deeper is bare for the most part. I did catch one big momma post spawner on a point in Oil Well too, but that was all that I caught in there. Quote
Wesley Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Has anyone had any luck flipping the buck brush? I tried it once last week and never got bit. Gonna try it again this week some time. Quote
fishingcajun Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Wesley, Watermelon Red Baby Brush Hog, dip the tail in chartruese spike-it. I have been catching in the bushes along the bank, not as much on isolated bushes. Better fish came off of laydowns around the brush. Very few on cypress trees. Caught in Indian Mounds coves, Islands around mouth of Sammy Gil Coves around Bison and up in Siepe. This has been in the last two weeks. I have heard of people pitching tubes, but i had plenty luck with the brush hog. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 8, 2012 Author Super User Posted April 8, 2012 Patroon, 1215, San Miguel, Lanan, & San Patrico are all producing Chrome/blue traps, swim baits, & flukes; target brush & willow trees in open water/creeks Quote
justbass Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 went last night caught 17 with one over 5 and the rest in the 3-4 range was fishing a ridge that came up to 14 fow with 30fow on both sides.took the wife out today and she likes throwing a crankbait and we caught several, sorry lost count but they were in the top of the grass, she had a blast.
