Dam Yankee Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Looks like I will wait till Monday. Didn't realize there were 3 big tourneys going on at the same time. Thanks for the tip. Quote
six-mile C-Rig Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 forgot to mention, FLW is launching/weighing in from San Miguel park. BassnBucks is weighing in at Big Bass (trailoring allowed) and the Oilmen's is weighing in at Cypress Bend. There wll be around 1000 boats saturday/sunday just for tournaments. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Catt...good to see you back. Hope all is well and I see your still catching the big girls! I went Wednesday with my uncle and we caught 21 bass, 8 of em being keepers, with the biggest going 5lbs. Caught the majority of em on a Gambler Big-EZ swam through the newly flooded hay grass. Fished deeper with C-Rigs, Pointers, traps, wacky worms, cranks for hours with nothing to show for it then moved shallow and started catching fish. Quote
Shanon Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 We are 1 week away from a 10 day guys trip on the Bend. So excited I can't stand it. I asked earlier about the drought & grass - I know the aquatic grass grows fast - but how has the drought affected arreas that were high and dry and used to be (hydrilla, milfoil, or coontail)? Did non-aquatic grass start growing and does it (being flooded) produce good or bad habitat for the fish? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 The Hydrilla can be found in 6-15 fow right now. Anything less than 6 ft was dry recently, so no hydrilla, but it does have alot of hay grass that has flooded. The bass have moved into the hay grass and look to be spawning in there. Make sure you have some Gambler Big-EZs or Skinny Dippers and swim em through the grass and hold on! Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 16, 2012 Author Super User Posted March 16, 2012 Bass-Fantic is dead on about grass but completely wrong on lure selection. Do not try these lures ever! Stay out of the back of 944/Bull creek! Quote
fishnla Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Well made it out in the crowds today. It was a tough day for me, only three keepers. One of the fish went 4.7 and she had definately already spawned out. Hope, if yall made the trip, that yall had a better day than me. Quote

I talked to some people that went out today and they caught about 15 in shallow grass in only a few hours. Quote
fishnla Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 What part of the lake you on? I talked to some people that went out today and they caught about 15 in shallow grass in only a few hours. Mid-lake Texas side. Caught about 20 total but I'm not one to show off the little ones. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 18, 2012 Author Super User Posted March 18, 2012 What I've heard resently is y'all better start turning your back to the bank! Quote
back water Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 We had our little club tournament this past weekend, our weigh in site was 6 mile. We fished Sat. till 3:00 and Sun till 1:00. Heavy stringer for the 2 partial days was 22 lbs. Not many large fish, Sat. 5.12, Sun. 4.11. It was a team event with max of 5 fish. My partner and I never left 6 mile and weighed in our 5 fish each day (8 to 9 lbs) and culled a few. Caught lots of smaller fish, but could not find the kicker fish. Finished 5th out of 11 teams. Did have one big blowup on a Rib-it frog and he bit the legs right off of it. Left a hole like a wash tub. Almost all of our fish were shallow, shallow, from the bank out through the dead grass. Most came on a weightless, mint green flukes. Will fish T-Bend one more time next month on April 28 - 29th. Hope to do better then. Keep a tight line. Dutch Quote
Wesley Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 We caught between 10-15 fish today big one a little over 4 pounds. Smaller fish were in the grass and the bigger ones were in 6-8 foot of water. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 19, 2012 Author Super User Posted March 19, 2012 Just because I said we are fishing 6-8' does not mean we are on the bank! back water y'all are catching males on the bank in 6-Mile cause the females have moved out. Guys we are in post-spawn, yea I know there are some late spawners down south. Quote
Ranger Jim Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Catt glad you are back! What are you throwing post spawn? Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 19, 2012 Author Super User Posted March 19, 2012 While the bass are transitioning from spawn to post-spawn I'm transitioning from creeks to the main lake. I've put up my spinner baits & traps for Texas rigs & jigs. Quote

Shanon Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Nice Fish Wesley - What's even nicer is seeing the water up next to the buck brush in the background. Way to go Mother Nature!, Even looks like more rain coming early this week. Haven't searched for results of the big tournaments this weekend - Was there a ton of fish caught? Anybody talking about patterns? I see that Catt has pulled out of the creeks and that most of recent reports show lots of smaller fish in the shallows. My gang is predominantly topwater - We fish it all day mostly. 4 Days and counting till we are on the Bend. Can't wait. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Top water will catch you quite a few fish right now, but the majority will be males. The males are up shallow gaurding eggs and fry so if your just looking to catch a bunch of fish, topwater, weigtless plastics, and jerbaits will do it in 1-6 fow. To find the late spawners, throw a Gambler Big_EZ or Skinny dipper and swim it through the flooded hay grass. If one whirls behind it, follow up with the fluke. I can usually catch a few late spawners a day doing this mixed with a ton of males. If your just looking for the big bite, tie on a 3/4 oz jig and back off to the main creek points and work all cover and structure. Quote
hobo1616 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 FIshed saturday and sunday, Saturday fished from 7 till 11 had 7 keepers best 5 going 14.8 had a 4.6 and others were good solid fish in the 2.5 to 3 lb class. Sunday fished till around 10 30 and had 9 keeprs best 5 went 12.7 had the same average fish just not the 4.6. Caught all of the fish shallow in less than 4 ft on a tx rig Lizzard and a wacky rigged senko. Fished the hickory ridge area. I did not sight fish but saw several nice fish either around a bed or just cruising in circles in the shallows. Had two big fish under our dock that appeared to be getting ready to spawn. Quote
Wesley Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Well this rain should go a long ways to getting Toledo to full pool. Reading Date / Time: Tue, 03/20/2012 - 6:39am Lake Level: 169.14msl Generator 1: down Generator 2: down Spillway Gates: closed Current Water Flow: 204.00CFS Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-972354 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 This rain looks like they will have to start opening flood gates before it is all said and done. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 When will they start generating again? Quote
Wesley Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Reading Date / Time: Wed, 03/21/2012 - 7:04am Lake Level: 170.32msl Generator 1: shut down Generator 2: shut down Spillway Gates: closed Current Water Flow: 204.00CFS Came up about a foot, still a lot of water heading down this way. We will be full pool by the weekend I am thinking. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 21, 2012 Author Super User Posted March 21, 2012 FYI Lake level on 3-6: 166.49 3-12: 167.85 3-16: 168.95 3-21: 170.32 With foot increase in lake level the shoreline move and many anglers are following the new shorelines. If the bass spawned around 3-11 with a level @ 167.25 and the nests were in 2' of water those nest would now be in 5'. So if the bass are in post spawn, I believe they are and you are following the shoreline. Y'all are heading the wrong way because post spawn bass move away from the shore not towards it. Quote
