Well guys finally got on the Bend for a day. I launched out of Cypress Bend and ran into Lowes Creek. I caught about 30, mostly small males on a red trap and then picked up a jig and caught 3 nice females (biggest goin 5lbs) on the edge of the creek channel in 14 FOW. Got back to the ramp with 2 Game Wardens waitin on me. They checked everything known to man and wrote me for expired registration (which I didnt notice) and no boater safety course. :mad5:

Boaters safety course? I never heard anything about this. Is there an age limit?

New trolling motor installed last night, now if the prop shop will call me back I will be on my way to the bend this afternoon. I will let yall know how I do, or how wet I get.

for those of you who haven't heard yet, today on toledo during the bass-n-bucks tourney 36.6 pound sack won, with a kicker fish of 14.62!!!!!!!!!!!! You can see the pictures on bass-n-bucks facebook page.

I heard about that! Im heading up there Thursday-Saturday looking for one of those!!

Fished last weekend. Caught fish in 2 -6 foot range. Traps, Flukes and Spinner Baits.

all reports are pointing to them being way up and getting ready to lock on beds.

The only thing I don't like about that is when you get in a cove and start working your way in and its like a merry go round with the boats hitting the banks. Its hard to get on something thats not been hit before.

Thats exactly why I just sit back and watch from a distance. I can't make myself fish the bank during the spring. I stay out in slightly deeper water that other people might fish, but wont get the constant parade of boats.

You have to fish during the week if you can. Friday,Saturday and Sunday can be tough.

I made a trip to Toledo Bend Thursday and Friday. Thursday was spent fixing a trolling motor and by Friday I had a sinus infection. I managed 5 fish on Friday. I caught two on beds and they were not on the bank. With the water level rise there is plenty of spawing cover away from the banks. I also caught fish off a shallow flat on the edge of a creek channel. I plan on going back this week hopefully without the sinus problem!

I fished Thursday-Saturday and caught 14 fish Thursday evening, 43 Friday evening, and 31 Saturday morning. Weighed in 11.52 in my tournament Saturday. I caught better fish Friday on traps and jerkbaits, but couldnt find the size on Saturday. We did have 2 8lb+ fish weighed in in our tournament so the big ones are around, just not around me apparently. I plan on going back Wednesday to catch some white perch. I caught 6 huge perch on my jerkbait!

Finally made there this weekend started out good saturday except for the five foot waves I had to jump right at daybreak. Just fished for about two hours to scout for next weekend, then went to pick up my 7 year old son to go perch jerking. In the two hours that I scouted I caught 9 keepers(released) and 1 throw back, of the 9 I had a 4 lb 6 oz and a 3 lb 10 oz. the rest where just solid 2 to 2.5. We then caught 3 bass(released), four big bream, and 16 decent white perch. Went scouting again for a bit this morning and caught a couple keepers one about 3.5 but mainly culled a couple spots for the tournament next week. Oh then I had a blow out on way home.

Sounds like you've found some good fish. Good luck this weekend!

I went yesterday got a late start @ 1030 due to a dental appointment. It looked like a saturday out there. Boats everywhere!! I got skunked. SKUNKED!!! I couldn't believe it. Still scratchin my head. My partner and I went to hurricane cove. he caught 2 about 13 inches. Went to the area by Fox's lodge. he caught one keeper. Fished the north bank of housen, hurricane, fox's lodge, several areas in toro. Spinnerbaits, rattle traps, tx rigs, c- rigs, crank baits. deep and shallow. I didn't even get one bite. Not one. very frustrating to say the least. Seems they ought to be almost jumping in the boat this time of year.

An outing like this usually gets you thinking about what you did wrong. I have no clue what we did wrong.

What depths were you throwing???? Inside grass line? creek channel edges?

reason i ask, is me and my partner has a steady bite this weekend on the edge of creek channels with jigs. The cold front that came through on friday pushed them back a little bit and we found them in the same staging areas that we've been catching them on for the past 3-4 weeks. These creek channel edges were in the 10-14 foot range. All said, Sunday we had 16 fish with 12 keepers... 1 fish @ 4 1/2 , and 3 fish right at 3lbs... and many more in the 2-2 1/4 range.... nothing of spectacular size but was definately a great outting.

At first we went shallow. Maybe we didn't stay there long enough. I felt our best shot was pre and post spawn stagers with all the boats. Seems we fished areas that contained both shallow grass and nearby deeper channels trying to cover both shallow and deep. For instance when we had no luck in the back of hurricane, we went to the mouth and worked around the point thoroughly both shallow and deep. I then chose to work a channel leading to the north bank of housen that had grass at about 6 ft. on each side of it. We continued like that trying to cover both shallow and deep with no luck.

Dam Yankee I wasn't there Monday, but to make you feel better I haven't heard very good reports about Monday. The best report I heard came from way up north past 1215.

Well...that does make me feel a little better!! LOL!

Weather doesn't look too promising for this coming weekend but, I'll be in Houston. Hopefully get out there again Monday.
