TxGator Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I was talking with my dad yesterday, I know that the site 7 boat launch is still open, they put his new, well new to him boat in the water there. Gator Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 2, 2011 Author Super User Posted August 2, 2011 Safely running Toledo Bend Boat Lanes East/West boat lanes are marked with a single row of buoys in the center of the boat lane; these lanes are 30'-40' wide. CAUTION: since the East/West lanes are marked with a single row of buoys you should make it a habit to always run your boat on the windward (the side FROM which the wind is blowing) side of the buoys. Why? The buoys need enough slack in the lines mooring them to allow for the lake to be at its maximum level. The lake is lower, there is slack in these lines & the wind will cause the buoys to float to the leeward (the side TO which the wind is blowing) side of the lane. Since these lanes are only 30' - 40' wide, this can POSSIBLY leave a buoy at the very edge of the lane & as you go by wide on the leeward side, you may be out of the lane & in danger. Staying on the windward side means you will always be in the lane. Since the North/South lanes are marked on both sides there is generally not a problem with them. Quote
TxGator Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Thats good advice, I never thought about it that way. Thanks for the heads up. Gator Quote
jamey912 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 My son and I went to Indian creek last week and cought 1 x 6 pound bass & 4 x 3 pound bass & 30 yellow bass & white bass the first day. The 6 pounder came on a buzzbait & the rest were cought on lipless cranks. The 2nd day we went we cought 1 x 6 pound bass 3 x 4 pound bass 6 x 2-3 pound bass & 15 x yellow bass & white bass. Cought all the yellow bass & white bass on cranks in 8-20 ft of water & went to 10" plum worms for the bigger bass on the weed edge in 6-12 ft of water. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 That sounds like a great trip Jamey. I wont be there again until August 25th-27th. Quote
FishNChip Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Catt: Are you familiar with a boat launch up White Oak Creek. Thought I saw one there in the spring but SRA has no info on it, nor does any other resource I've checked. Do you have any info, ie useable lake level, private or public, etc. Thanks. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 10, 2011 Author Super User Posted August 10, 2011 Last I heard it was still usable Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 15, 2011 Author Super User Posted August 15, 2011 As of yesterday the Big Pond was @ 161.84 which is approaching the Lowest Recorded Lake Level of 161.25 Quote
TxGator Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I finally made it back up for a couple of days. We fished sat and sun, and caught a pretty good number of fish, but no size to speak of. Probably 15-20 off of the north end of Texas Island and about the same on the main point of Mill creek closest to the island. Picked up a few legal fish sunday evening off of the "Reef" by the dam. Plum apple was definitly our best color. 15 to 20 foot was where they were caught, thought maybe the larger fish would be deeper but couldnt get anyhting to hit deeper than that. We wanted to get a look at Buck creek and Indian Creek at the low level, but when we ran into Buck creek coming from Mill, we saw several stumps sticking up right next to one of the bouys. We idled up and boy was it shallow. Decided to not go any farther. Good luck yall Gator Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted August 25, 2011 With school recently starting I’m back to coaching so my days on the water will be limited to weekends again. Thanks for the update Gator With the lake level @ 161.49 I’m hearing reports of stumps at or below the surface in many boat lanes so Y’all be careful. Quote
Vickers Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I hope some of TS Lee's rain has made it to the Bend... were in south La and we have been getting rained on since Thursday... I know the Bend could use a few FEET!! Stay safe out there, watch out for all those stumps! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 We got almost 8 inches here in Central LA last time I checked. Hopefully some of that made it to the Bend! Im lovin this cooler weather, makes me ready for some fall fishing up there. Quote
six-mile C-Rig Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 i hate to be the bearer of bad news, BUT, i spend the weekend at the lake and we only got maybe 3-4 inches of rain. Not nearly enough, to do anything significant to the level of the lake. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 7, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 7, 2011 Rain fall on the lake only will do little…runoff from area creeks & rivers is what is needed Quote
Dam Yankee Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I haven't been out in a while. Tried to launch at Pirates cove yesterday. Couldn't do it. a bad drop off and i only have a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive. Launched at Site 7 on texas side no problems. Didn't do much fishing just ran the boat as i did some work to it. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 12, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 12, 2011 As of 9/11/2011 the lake level is @ 160.99 Water temperature have dropped to the upper 70s to lower 80s I’ve not been lately but I have friends who live on the lake and I talk to the weekly. Fishing is outstanding but launching and running is dangerous. Light Texas rigs and Carolina rigs on the outside grass lines are #1 in 8-15’. Hint: Go Green Quote

I like to fish Housen and Toro but, am not sure if I can get there safely from where I am launching. On a sidenote the Fort Polk bassmasters tournament that usually happens in a couple weeks has been cancelled according to their website. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 15, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 15, 2011 According to everyone I know nobody is running any where unless it’s in a river/creek channel! According to SRA report the lake level is too low to generate safely for fear of damage to generators so all generating at the dam has stopped. In order to maintain required water in the river below the dam (Sabine river/Toro creek), one gate at emergency spillway (Toro Creek) was opened 8 inches and will be left open indefinitely to run 24/7. Reports say the volume of water released in this manner will be the same as recent generating. As of 9/14/2011 the lake level is @ 160.91 Spillway Gates: One gate open @ 6" Current Water flow: 620 CFS Quote
jchief Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Howdy everyone. Been trying to catch up on this thread for a while. I have a camp at Buckeye and spent last week there. I was able to run from the cove to Hickory ridge. I would crossover on Boones and run the TX side. You have to be careful in the Housen area especially where it comes out of the river at the Community hole. Caught fish early on topwater and TX worms next to the grass in 8 fow. Spent most of my time riding the lake filming areas I fish regularly. Buckeye is still usable, but if it gets down about another foot or so, you won't be able to get out of the cove. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 15, 2011 Author Super User Posted September 15, 2011 Thanks jchief excellent report Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Caught 44 bass with a 7lb kicker Saturday and I stopped counting at 50 today. My biggest today was only about 4lbs, but it has been a blast. Spooks, cranks, and wacky worms in 8-12 fow with grass has been the most productive by far. Quote
