Skeet22 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 My club, Southern Boyz Bass Club, finished 16th out of 84 clubs this past weekend in the ALBC Best Six tournament. We weighed in 64lbs of fish in 2 days with a 8.02lb and 6lb kickers! That was good enought for a check. And the best part is...WE WON A BOAT!!! It is a Nitro Z7 with a 150 Opti on the back. We are selling it and splitting the money between the 6 of us. All our fish were caught in Housen, Six Mile, and the Meghee Flats on jigs, chatterfrogs, RI Skinny Dippers, Chug Bugs, Buzzbaits, and Cranks. We had a blast and cant wait to fish the Bend agian!! We did not do so well finished 41st with 50 lbs. No kickers, we weighed in limits but biggest fish was 4 lbs. One of our guys had a 6.5 in practice fishing humps around cypress bend. I fished Lowes creek sat and we caught fish but biggest was 3 lbs. Sun I fished pirates cove and caught better quality fish over all but nothing over 4 lbs. Pretty much everything came on deep cranks SK series 4 and xd5's after the buzzbait bite went away. Congrats on winning the boat!! Quote
Skeet22 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Also I hit a stump in the bison boat lane during practice and took a chunk out of my skeg. Thankk God thats all that happen. It was a pretty good lick. My fault I should have came off plane sooner it shallows up pretty quick in that lane. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 4, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 4, 2011 Skeet anit that just like the Bend! A 32 & 25 lb average & it aint good enough Quote
Skeet22 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Skeet anit that just like the Bend! A 32 & 25 lb average & it aint good enough Yeah no matter what you catch there someone will catch them better.. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 4, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 4, 2011 Yeah no matter what you catch there someone will catch them better.. Yelp but that’s what I love about the Big Pond Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Yeah my boat dropped two fish over 5lbs that would have boost us all the way to 4th place. At 12:00 on Sunday the fishing sucked so I picked up my buddy's rod with a white Cavitron Buzzbait on it and hung a 5+ on the third cast. His drag was set so loose though I never got a hook into the fish, I could just see her swimming with it in her mouth, but everytime I jerked line would strip off the reel. The other fish broke at the boat!! It was frustrating too because Thursday and Friday with the high pressure and blue bird skies we killed the fish on some humps in Six Mile, but with the good weather Sat. and Sunday we only caught one off those humps. I guess thats why they call it fishing and not catching. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 5, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 5, 2011 I know you aint complaining Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Not complaining at all, heck, we won a BOAT!! Im still excited about it. 1 Quote

Triton21 Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I was getting worried about you Tommy. I hadn't seen a post from you until Mother's Day. I read this thread every day to see what the Big Pond is doing even tho I can't be down there fishing. I have many, many fond memories of that place. Kelley Quote

Triton21 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Kelly what part of Southern Illinois do you live in i go up there a couple times a year deer hunting I live in Edwards County. Just N of I-64 near the Indiana border. Great hunting in this area. I got a 19 point last year. The farmers here say "Kill Em all". I average 6 a year hunting bow, black powder, and shotgun. I am moving to Michigan within the next couple weeks so won't get to hunt here as much. Looking forward to all the Smallmouth fishing up there. Kelley Quote

Super User Catt Posted May 13, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 13, 2011 Huh, you name em I've probably worked for em! I've been all over Citgo, did 3 turnarounds in the Acid Plant, 2 in both Cokers, & what the heck do you call the unit east of the main gate; I was there during 2 explosions and a major power failer. I like Citgo, always did Quote
ealex Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Catt it depends on how long it has been since you have been in Citgo. about 8 years ago we added 3 new units east of where the old main entrance is Cat Feed, Tier 2, CVEP. now if you are talking about contractor gate it may be the Unicracker right on the side of Coker 2. i work at Coker 2. what kind of work did you do? Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 14, 2011 Author Super User Posted May 14, 2011 Uhh!! It's was just the other day or maybe 19 years ago We use to park east of hiway 108, cross the road & enter the gate to the west, I think it was called something about jet fuel. Dang it's been years but it feels like yesterday. I was a carpenter & did every thing from scaffolding to form work to building things in offices to ceiling & drywall. Quote

alwayslooking Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Catt, have you been in 6-mile lately? i was wondering what depth would you consider the outside edge of the grass is? in 6-mile,,,i'm sure that it varies a little from creek to creek and bottom substrate. do you think the bass go deeper, suspend over deep water, or bury up in the cover when the sun gets up? are you fishing a topwater early?
