Super User Catt Posted August 12, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 12, 2010 Paul, this is what's known by the ole timers as the "Catfish Hole" This is another perfect example of why we need to zoom out at times and view the overall area to better understand how to read structure. If we mark N 31.22818 W 93.66858, N 31.22609 W 93.65338, & N 31.23988 W 93.65519 and then look at the overall area we notice that it is the underwater extension of what is Megee's Point. Click on satellite view! Now look at the next point south of this location and tell me what do y'all see? I see we have 2 Paul's, ok to make things simpler my name is Tommy T in case God forbid there are two of us. PS: While y'all are at it try satellite view with the slider bar adjusted to where we can see 4 bars above the slider, toggle back between topo & satellite! Quote
alwayslooking Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 mcgee flats somewhat mimics housen community hole,,,,interesting creek, or ditch thru the southeast side of the flats, close to bank shallow,,,south of this area looks to be well rounded point, deep water to bank,,,almost non-descript until you get to mill, with exception of small cove?  unless you are talking about the creek south of mcgee? BulletDon Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Been away for a while. Good to be back. Great info and insight from all. New area I like it; what do I see Mmmmmmm. Okay need to think like Catt. Time of year, previous lesson: Okay here goes: I see two different migration routes. One into Lows creek and the other into Dry Creek. Not ever been there, I would lean more towards Lows creek because of the depth change being more prevailing than the one going into Dry Creek, it is more of a flat. Can't pass up the ditch or drain that is on the southeast side though. Super User Catt Posted August 13, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 13, 2010 Mark: N 31.22124 W 93.64484 & N 31.21577 W 93.64120 If there ever were any boat docks on Toledo y'all want to fish these are them! It was either Tackahiro Omori or Ben Matsubu who ended up in 2nd & 3rd in the LOUISIANA TOP 150 fishing those docks. Quote
alwayslooking Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Catt, would you suggest fishing this flat the same as housen community? migration down both sides? checking for the irregularities (humps) etc? And would those docks likely hold fish because they are the best available structure in the area of the deeper water? Sorry, still full of questions. Quote
alwayslooking Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 My son and i are fishing the bend in the morning and i plan on using the electronics A LOT...I'll make several passes over mcgee flats and see what i can see,, 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 14, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 14, 2010 Catt, would you suggest fishing this flat the same as housen community? On the south end of the lake we should be targeting grass so yes I'll be fishing it the same Migration down both sides? Mcgee's flat east side only Why? More irregular features! Would those docks likely hold fish because they are the best available structure in the area of the deeper water? Best available cover Quote
bigtimfish Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Catt, please look at N 31.24321 W 93.69516 on acme mapper. I believe this a a hump off of a point at the end of Sandy creek. Is this a spot I should try? Also I haven't been to that area in a while, and was wondering about the grass. Is it thick in that area? Going on Monday, and wanting to do some grass punching. Thanks. BulletDon Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Migration down both sides? Mcgee's flat east side only Why? More irregular features! There you go, shows you what I know. I would have been fishing, not necessarily the wrong side, but more than likely not hte most productive side. Learning something everyday . Thanks Catt Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 15, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 15, 2010 bigtimfish, when I'm in that area I always stop there, never caught any real big fish but alot of solid keepers. SkeeterDon, excellent choice of wording, its not that I don't catch on the west side its just that the east side has been overall more productive in numbers & size. This game of bass fishing is all about putting the odds in our favor Quote
idrathrbfishn Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Anyone fishing the FLW Weeknd series on Toledo on the 28th and 29th? Quote
Ranger 251 Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Catt, OK, I now have Acme Mapper and have been following along with previous posts. Now that I have access to Acme Mapper I can start to see and understand the structure you bring up. This is great and I really want and need to understand it much better. I have been looking at the topo map further north (near the Pendleton Bridge) but have not been able to locate any offshore structure as you pointed out. Can you point an some structure near that area? Thanks Quote

Super User Catt Posted August 16, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 16, 2010 Paul M, James Gaines Boat Lane from the mouth of Corsey Creek south to the intersection with the North-South boat lane. alwayslooking Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Catt, would i have been better off, anchoring in deeper water? also, there wasn't any grass where i was at. I haven't seen any grass deeper than 11fow the last couple of times i've been up there,,,maybe i'm not quite in the right locations yet? I'll be up again on friday to try again. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 16, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 16, 2010 Paul T its hard to say, I think you were knocking on the right doors they just weren't opening. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted August 16, 2010 Super User Posted August 16, 2010 Well i was planning on being there Saturday night, but now it's up in the air and going to be a gametime decision. It's coming up on the anniversary of our daughter's untimely death and the wife is struggling mightily. Sunday will be the anniversary and she wants to visit the grave site. If i fish all night it will be a struggle to get her there so I am probably going to miss it. 1 Quote

Ranger 251 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Catt, Here it goes. First I see a huge flat starting near the bridge and going north. I see a couple of interesting spots along the way as I head north. The first is the Sabine River about mid way up the flat with a huge horse shoe bend that at one point is very near the flat. To me this looks like a good place for a plastic worm. Now I know there are some small humps in that area that I would try a spinnerbait over. The next spot is the intersection of Clear Creek and Patron Bayou. The intersection forms a point at N31.49196 W93.75282 in about 8-9 feet of water. Now I see another long point on the south side of this intersection which extends to the boat lane--the point ends in about 26 to 28 feet of water. (yep, I can't get away from the Hook-n-Line). Beings the shallow water type I would most probably fish the point in 8-9 foot of water with soft plastic or jig-n-trailer. Then work my way down the north side (along Patroon Bayou) of the longer point until I reach the boat lane. bigtimfish Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 ok Catt, N 31.25637Â W 93.67571 just outside six mile. Looks to be on the left side of the boat lane. What am I looking at here? What could the strange circular shapes be, and are these "things" something I should try to find and fish? Quote
